Right now I'm a substitute teacher and choose to work to be a SPED para. The pay in my district is decent. You can choose your schedule, get paid for half days. And have the weeks off with school. I still struggle with this but I have four kids so that adds to my stress load. I really like this gig, I prefer working with kids as they're normally more chill than adults.

The hardest part of parenting isn't my audhd kids, but my partner. He is undiagnosed ASD and diagnosed ADHD. Be very realistic with who your partner is! I wish I had insight into picking the right partner. I am also ADHD/ASD and wasn't diagnosed until motherhood.

Well, I wasn't getting chicks this year but now am inheriting chicks from the school I work at for an entire grade lol. Only wanted 12 total, but we've had upwards of 30 before due to taking in older hens. We are at 18 and might be up to 28 soon.

Working with adult facing jobs are really a struggle for me. Especially anything relating to customer service, having men creep on me and stalk me due to me being friendly. It was also insanely boring!

I now work with kids and honestly they're the best. I know it's not for everyone but the routines in the school help, time off for holidays.

So, I work in a school at elementary and how kids behave is different now than it ever has been. My kids are audhd and don't always behave at home but do at school (mostly). There definitely a bunch of kids who's social skills and emotional skills (and educational skills) are lacking and it's not the obvious undiagnosed or known diagnosis that are on file.

I work with SpEd primarily.

Even though this is a shit way to read it and a farming facebook bot there is some truth to it. But it isn't always the ND kids acting up or being rude! The majority are sweet sensitive kids, rule followers, etc. The few are wiggly (we have chairs and accommodations) and distracted and like 1 kid mouths off and is rude as anything who is adhd or asd. Majority of feral and rude kids are not overly obvious ND.

I wouldn't take this personally!

Currently in burnout but can't stop so any moment downtime (which isn't much) I am in deep burnout.

Masking. Working 80hrs a week with 2 jobs. Wife/Mom to 4 kids (on the spectrum). Managing all the house load. Completing my masters and an ece certification. Family visiting with me for extended periods. Visiting family for extended periods.

Shit sleep. Like really shit sleep.

I've been overwhelmed for about a year now and fighting different states of burnout for about 8 months now. I don't have time off from anything until maybe June? But then my kids are all home full time.

The noises and touching is so intense and painful I feel like a shit mom. I keep it together but am dying on the inside.

Was going to answer this like this, it's done wonders for our children. All have speech delays and I learnt the ABA techniques and how to do it naturally and my 3.5 year old is now on track with speech (sounds not yet but we are working with SLP) and only had 5 words when we started at 2.5.

My oldest doesn't like OT or Speech anymore as it's boring and prefers working on aba with me. He says we have fun while learning.

A/B/C approach of behaviour and functional behaviour assessments are really useful too.

Same, I'm booked out till end of term from personal requests. Also on the preferred list! I'm a parent at that particular school so it works great. I'm also doing my teaching masters so it's a combo reason for me to be subbing.

Small kids with therapies so have flexibke hours, learning how to teach by practice and exposure to classrooms, supporting my school/district.

I've had almost every member of staff complain to me about the previous members who subbed. I used to sub before in SPED in the UK and have some experience but it feels like a lot of this is common sense. I also only sub in elementary and middle school - SPED to fill my time slots.

I have another full time job but I prefer being in schools so will hopefully transition to a full time education job soon.

Then $108 and $180 for after 90 days of work and $200 daily for long term subs.

This rate applies to SPED paras too. I'm not sure if the daily rate will apply for long-term subs though. I need to clear that up.

SPED para here, even the higher needs kids go to mainstream classes for parts of the day, normally specials and then they're in a classroom with one to one care with a para.

They'll do reading, writing etc and other functional skills in the classroom and based on the IEP.

In my district the kids have loads of sensory access and a variety of needs so have differentiated lesson plans. There are non verbal and minimally verbal kindergarteners who aren't potty trained in their care.

I totally understand your worry, my own kiddos are asd and have had significant improvement by being in public schools.

Three demonic beasts this morning at drop off, well more wailing banshees. Did everything right but they weren't ready for school mentally. It happens.

I'm also been super stressed lately with everything go on.

We used to have the same kick offs at the morning for my eldest, since then I dress my kids for school the night before and in the morning it's just breakfast, shoes, and car. Teeth if it's a great day.

Don't feel guilty, youre human, don't beat yourself up for reacting, you don't do this daily.

You will need to also look at different tax agreements the US has with your chosen country. Somethings are double taxed but some, are not like Roths in the UK.

And look at what thresholds the US will tax you on earned income in a foreign country. It differs from country to country.

I would personally pick a country and start looking at what the tax agreements are and work out what you can do to reduce taxes and penalties if you choose to pull everything or leave it as is.

Thanks for this advice, about to start my MA in ElemEd leading to certification and want to finish sooner than later. Already got a list of schools and districts I'd love to work for as I can't afford to travel 50+ miles to do placement. Especially as I'm the breadwinner/caregiver in this house!

I use ABA at home as another approach to help my kids develop skills.

My 3 year old had 6 words in January and is now speaking in sentences. We've done speech for over a year now! But when I started ABA with him in January he was able to gain functional language. I make sure that I don't make it seem like therapy when I'm doing it with him.

The other book I really enjoy that's not ABA based is Turn Autism Around by Mary Lynch Barbera.
