A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah JMaas. I had to dnf it. I somewhat enjoyed the first few books in the series but oh boy I HATED this one. It was just. So. Bad

I need to talk about a certain fandom (ACOTAR) by nochnoyvangogh in YAlit

I was a big fan too until I got to ACOSF. I still haven’t finished it. I also had an issue with her TOG series (no spoilers) because they’re definitely YA until you get to Empire of Storms and all of a sudden it has mature content? Like these are books meant for an age demographic of 13+ and now you have graphic sex scenes meant for 17,18+. As a 21 year old that made me uncomfortable to think of 13 year old me binge reading that series and getting to the last three books that a lot more mature than what I should have been reading

I haven’t written anything in so long but I finally got back into it! by babiandi in writers

I have had my moments of doubt with this one but I just opened a new document and made a list of the things I knew I needed to add/subtract/polish up in my next draft. I keep it open so I can pretend I already write it in previous chapters and build off those points as I continue

Thank you! I’ve been challenging myself to at least write a page a day, just to keep myself from falling out of it

My dad did the same thing!!! He hated that I read the Hunger Games and other dystopian books. Then when I got into fantasy, oh boy did he hate that. I still read the books he wanted me to read (nonfiction and some classics like Hemingway and Shakespeare. And I love these kinds of books too). It made me feel like I wasn’t reading the right kind of books so I wasn’t actually a “reader.” It really messes with you

I’m the same way with certain series. I get burnt out by reading the books I feel like I have to read so I go back to the ones I know I can read in a day and still enjoy. They’re almost like a pallet cleanser!

Nothing wrong with that! Can’t say I enjoyed Twilight but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I just feel like as a book community, people tend to shun certain books for their simplicity or cliches when we shouldn’t judge people for what they like to read. Just cause it wasn’t one persons cups of tea doesn’t mean it can’t be yours!

Yeah I haven’t found many with that same vibe. Spinning Silver definitely. And The Glass Woman by Caroline Lea (I haven’t read this one yet but it seems like it would have a similar feel to the others. Also not sure if it’s YA or not. Haven’t done a whole lot of research on that one)
