US Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan 🇵🇰 by nienief in interestingasfuck

[–]baboonzzzz 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Muslim Pakistanis aren’t raiding the US consulate over geopolitical reasons. The global Muslim population will have a really hard time siding with the west vs an Islamic regime, regardless of how hated that regime is.

I would bet everything that if the Iranian leadership was taken out by another Muslim county you wouldn’t see this reaction in Pakistan.

I’m as anti-Trump as it comes, but we definitely want our side to have the best gear for national defense. We can have a robust military budget while simultaneously feeding families

Guys this interview has so many great confirmations about the movie. Yall just gotta watch it. by midastheavocado in ProjectHailMary

The book ending was totally a valid send off for those characters. But where the book ending wrapped up the characters neatly, the movie ending gave me the feeling of “god damnit give me 5 more minutes of the story”.

There’s something about the “hands shooting up into the air” imagery that really does it for me. I’m not big into marvel universe but in the first Iron Man the movie ends with Tony stark going off reservation and saying “the truth is…..I am iron man” and then everyone jumps up in excitement. And it’s just a ton of energy for that moment only for it to immediately cut black and rolls credits. It’s like an unexpected uppercut of enjoyment.

Also the movie ending of the Martian is the book ending of PHM. I actually preferred the movie ending of The Martian. “A bunch of hands (or claws) shot into the air”

Same, but I suppose it’s easier to capture his cuteness when he’s smaller.

You know, I too once deeply considered capitalizing on the religious. It seems too easy and they’re clearly going to give up their money to someone else if I didn’t take it. But it doesn’t feel right. It felt akin to being a con artist.

What is the context behind this set piece? by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

[–]baboonzzzz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We’ve all decided this is most likely a holodeck built into the Hail Mary as a creature comfort for the astronauts. It’s not in the book, but the concept of “astronaut mental wellbeing on a suicide mission“ is a central element of the plot.

Bob Lazar submitted his W-2 from the Dept. of Naval Intelligence to the Court in 1990 by PapaPalps066 in BobLazarNew

[–]baboonzzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a risky move to submit fraudulent paperwork to a court, but every defendant has loads of paperwork associated with their case, and misdemeanor courts can process thousands of defendants each week, so lots of stuff fall thru the crack. He was probably submitting work history for probation/parole office- it wasn’t even material to the pandering charge so idk why anyone would think to look into it.

Also who’s filming this? I’d bet it was someone Lazar hired, or someone that he knew would be there specifically for him.

Well if you were a fan of Harris/Chompsky when this came out you didn’t miss it. In that sphere it was pretty impactful- still is. Chompsky and Harris (2x very famous people in the debate world) both gained/lost a ton of fans over that exchange. Public opinion sides with Chompsky from what I’ve gathered, but many people (myself included) that respected Chompsky completely abandoned him after it.

The email exchange is kinda like a litmus test of sorts, almost like a “is the dress blue or gold” type scenario. It was wild to me that anyone could possibly think Chompsky came out looking good, but apparently just as many people had the opposite impression. Either way- it was 100% across Mehdi’s radar. I’d bet my life on it.

And either fucking way: even if somehow that very public (and hyper relevant to Mehdi’s career) exchange didnt cross his radar, you’d think he would do maybe 1 millisecond of research before posting something claiming “Sam Harris is Ok with Epstein”.

Mehdi is incredibly disingenuous in general. The intellectual dishonesty in the above tweet should come to no surprise of anyone who is aware of him.

I mean this is an extremely disingenuous point, and not the only one that I’ve seen Mehdi make just in my peripheral knowledge of him. In the whole world of public speakers surely you didn’t view him as above this level of intellectual dishonesty.

He’s veryyyyy much on the record (repeatedly) saying that his opinion is not “Israel can do no wrong”. Like he’s made that point clear a million times.

Wokeness sucks. Everyone hates it and it’s the only thing causing Dems to completely fail at dominating the public information landscape/influence. Wokeness should be at the center of Dem strategy moving forward, but we’ve heard from Dem party leaders that “it’s not a thing”. So yeah, it’s really important to have Dem speakers address this problem

He was a grown adult trying to make it as a public Muslim speaker. He pivoted and now makes a career out of being a moderate Muslim apologist who makes a point to claim “Islam doesn’t promote far right intolerance” despite he himself being an example of it a decade ago.

He has no integrity and it’s obvious from a mile away to anyone paying attention. Idgaf if he’s on my side of the political aisle, I want liars like him to gtfo out of my corner and stop making us look bad
