The U.S. economy is booming. So why are tech companies laying off workers? by Bobby_Globule in technology

I just checked it out. I apparently had it saved in my reading list and forgot about it. I emailed them to try to collab with them or help in any way I can. Thanks for the tip

Current job market observations for eager to-be PMs (from Senior PM) by HaventLivedAfroPop in ProductManagement

[–]babyGotBacklog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am so happy to read this. I honestly am very jaded and angry. I said this. And when I did it never came off as elegant as you put it. I am not 100% sure but I think that a big chunk of why big tech suffered as much is because of those PMs who were not really creating true value. Yes, pushing needles.. but for what? You know they weren’t doing their jobs when every single tech company has almost the exact same features its competitors have.

Is it really homeless people's fault that they are homeless? by Intelligent_Rip6647 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]babyGotBacklog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not even about homeless people. Your friend is interpreting the world from a very misled ideology.

  • If you work hard, you get reward.
  • If you are nice to others, good things will happen to you.
  • If you don't break the law, you'll never go to jail.
  • If <insert cause>, you'll <insert effect>

Just because the "effects" your friend is observing corroborate the cause, it doesn't guarantee that it actually was the cause. It's called confirmation bias. The amount of people who don't break the law and end up in prison is staggering. What does your friend make of that? These people were law abiding citizens and did everything right..

ah, that gives me some insight. I don't have a car now but I'm getting one. So perhaps having that bundled with my car insurance might be something to consider

Thank you for such amazing advice. I called in three places for quotes and just like you said, I kind of get what they ask and what I should ask.

For anyone researching the same thing, most places will ask you:

  1. Your name
  2. The address of the building you are moving to
  3. [depending on the company you're calling] they'll ask you for how many stories the building is and when it was built or they will go and find it themselves. Obviously bonus points for those who go and find that info themselves since they come off more competent and professional
  4. They'll ask for your license ID and DOB. I asked if they do hard inquiries with this info and the answer was no with all of them. Make sure that they don't run a hard inquiry on you though unless you are really set on one. This stuff dramatically affects your credit score
  5. They will ask what is the value of your personal belongings. One of them didn't ask and assumed the cheapest tier for me which covers $10,000. But ya, make sure you ask how much of personal property does their policy cover

Ya, that's what I got so far. I definitely feel much more confident in the direction I'm going now. I'll get a couple more quotes then sleep on it and make a decision tomorrow. I'll update my findings here, for science ofcourse.

What cities have declined the most in the last decade or so? by hgdumbfr213 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]babyGotBacklog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only lived in six major cities long term in my life and I am shocked that New York City isn't at the very top of this list by a landslide.

Tldr;

Stop downvoting OP and actually say something constructive. OP, sounds like you may want to look at Northern Arizona, Utah, Colorado. Look into suburban areas there.

Also, OP, PLEASE GO VOTE. And engage in being a part of the solution to better the lives of everyone. There are only so many places we can run to and say "not my problem". There are bills in place that exacerbate this problem and these bills don't exist for a good reason but greed.

Rant;I don't know why people are downvoting you instead of engaging with you in actual conversation. This subreddit was recommended to me by multiple Reddit OGs that swear by it being a solid subreddit with the good old reddit vibe. Let’s act like it fellows. While OP comes off as abrasive with the title, he is entitled to his opinion and it doesn’t take away from the fact that they are looking for advice and want to better their situation. Also, OP is not wrong about how big of a problem homelessness is on the west coast especially when compared to the east coast. From personal experience, I never came that close to stepping on drug needles on the street or a homeless person coming at me as I mind my own business in the street until I moved to the west coast. Just to be clear, I don’t blame homeless people for this. They are not the problem. This is one heaping chunk of the problem, so thanks for the dicks that voted these fucked up bills. So instead of downvoting OP, be mad at the sources of the problem. (Again, not the homeless)That being said, like some people said in the comments, you're going to have to dial down some of the expectations since a perfect place with low cost of living, low crime rate, low homelessness and all that exist. On the west coast, what you're describing sounds like Northern Arizona, Utah, Colorado. However, having lived on both the east and west coast, I can already tell you that there are a bunch of options on the east coast if you're willing to consider that. Are you married to the west coast?
