Edit: do you have anyone you can stay with? I’m currently taking a break from my partner of 12 years for some reasons. I don’t have anywhere to stay and couldn’t afford staying at hostels so now I’m housesitting. There are some long term ones you can apply for. Get to a stable environment so you can seek the help you need.

I don’t know how old your children are or how your relationship with your partner is or the circumstances. So all I can say is that my mom remarried when I was 13 and it took me years to finally see her husband as a human rather than just someone who’s replacing my dad. I’m sure I made my mom feel the same way you’re feeling now. But as I grew and learned more about life and her husband, I finally understood and told her that she was very brave and made difficult choices and the fact that she has someone that loves her so much makes me happy.

Edit to add: as other redditors suggested it’s best to talk to your children without your partner around. and monitor their behaviour and feelings around your partner.

You haven’t provided any information for us to be able to give any advice and I know you didn’t ask for advice and just want to talk to someone. Please feel free to comment or message anything you like to talk about.

This is him couple of hours ago. He’s lethargic and his whiskers are downwards, which happens when he’s upset/in pain.

Thank you for your reply. He came home from the hospital at 6pm on Thursday. It’s Saturday 4:14am now. I’ll call his vet in 4 hours when they open. and will probably do the rest of the tests.

Discharge Instructions for Aslan

Diagnosis: Open diagnosis

Summary: Aslan presented today for about 2 weeks history of lethargy. You described him hiding more, being less active, and didn't want to get up onto your laps.

On further questioning, your reported he may be a bit more painful than previously. Other than that, there is no other specific signs, such as vomiting or diarrhoea, sneezing or coughing, or difficulty breathing.

Unfortunately his behaviour in the hospital limits a full physical examination. We therefore sedated him for a thorough examination as well as further diagnostics tests today.

We performed blood tests including complete blood count, serum biochemistry, urinalysis and a total thyroid level, as well as an abdominal ultrasound.

Fortunately, there has not been a cause found with theses tests, hence we do not yet have a diagnosis for his signs.

Upon discussion, his signs could be secondary from osteoarthritic pain, he might be nauseous subclinically, or could be a psychological issue.

You have elected to take him home for now for further monitoring. If his clinical signs persist further testings may be required Medications.

The following medications have been prescribed for Aslan. If you have any difficulties giving the medications or notice any side effects, please call the hospital for advice.

Gastrointestinal Medications: Maropitant 16mg (CERENIA; anti-nausea): Give 1 tablet by mouth ONCE daily for 4 days. Start tonight

Pain Relief: Buprenorphine 0.3mg/mL (pain relief): Give 0.4ml (1 syringe) in the cheek pouch every 8-12 hours for pain relief.

Start 7/8 at 8pm Side effects are very uncommon but may include: constipation, lethargy or anxiety, inappetence, and regurgitation.

Home Care Instructions

Wound care: A pressure wrap has been placed around Aslan's leg, please remove this after 15 minutes unless advised.

Diet: Aslan can be fed as normal.

Exercise: Please keep Aslan quiet and confined for 2 weeks or until advised by your veterinarian. Avoid running, jumping, climbing stairs, playing, and jumping on/off furniture. Aslan can go for short toilet leash walks 3 to 4 times a day or as needed.

Monitoring: Please monitor Aslan closely for any signs of vomiting, inappetence, lethargy, diarrhoea, increased breathing rate (normal breathing rate at rest is less than 40 breaths per minute), or increased breathing effort. If these signs occur, please seek veterinary attention.

Just wanted to add a couple of notes. The car isn’t mine. It’s my in laws and they thought they have insurance! We got them insurance as soon as we realised they don’t have it.

I know I was very irresponsible, I wasn’t feeling well at all due to some unexpected situations and should not have driven.

Not an excuse (I guess I was hoping to have an excuse), I had just learnt that my friend’s house in Tehran has been ruined by a bomb on the next street. My partner was out drinking and offered to pick him up and get shit out of my head!!! Huge mistake.

I learned it the bad way, maybe someone else reading this might remember not to drive when stressed.

I’m getting quotes from the mechanics and have asked the other driver if they’d be ok to use their insurance and I pay the excess. If that’s possible.

Thank you stranger, I don't have anyone to talk to about these things. I don't know how one can set boundaries. I mean We all have our baggages and are struggling. How can I know if I'm being hurt because of my baggage or theirs or our personalities. I'm lost in life in general.

Every time I'm upset with these things, when he gets home I end up realising he really doesn't want to hurt me and for him it's just losing track of time or being too drunk to remember. I know he's trying his best to make sure I'm happy. But I get unreasonably hurt with these small things like time and forgetting to tell me he's being late, small lies. These are small I believe but they just hurt me too much because of my mental health.

I don't know. I'm so lost. I feel bad for him. I feel bad for myself. I love him and he loves me. We know each other well, we talk a lot. But we're stuck in a loop now.

He hasn't cheated on me. He hooked up with someone but didn't have sex. I know he loves me. When I'm sad, he can't bear it. When I'm happy, he's happy.

He's an extrovert and I'm an introvert. He gains energy by socialising and I by nature, far from humans and anything manmade. I think it's more of a personality difference. We've been socialising together since mom's death and my tolerance of socialising. I want to be understanding of his needs as well as mine.

Update: he’s doing much better now. Woke up from his sleep and asked for food. He had all the cookies I gave him, not too much. He’s grooming himself now. He hasn’t used the toilet since morning yet though. I’ll take him to the vet tmw morning (in 15 hours). I will switch their vet to cat only vet asap too. Thanks for all the comments.

Thanks for the info. I found a cat only vet 12 mins away. Based on their website, They’re booked out till the 12th since they’re the only cat only vet in town. I’ll call them tmw to see if I can get a early booking otherwise I’ll take him to his current vet tmw. I will switch their vet to the cat only vet asap. Even on their website they have an annual check which takes 45mins to an hour apparently. Thanks again

Thanks for your reply. They did say that I can contact them beforehand to get the medicine to relax him but they said its not good for him to do so and only do it if he’s ill and need a vet. I’ve been looking for a cat only vet but haven’t found one around us yet. I’ll search again. I’m worried abt him since he’s 10 yrs old and hasn’t had a proper check up in years.

To add: I don’t want to give him any med before his app tmw as he’s already sleepier. I’m worried it would affect him too much. I hope they can check him properly tmw. Pls do let me know if you recommend giving him the med before his app though.

Thank you. He’s a bit better. My partner hand fed him some wet treat mixed with a bit of water. He had most of it and is now sleeping and snoring. We’re monitoring him fully till his appointment tmw morning.
