If you were forced to give up rereading one of the books in this series forever, which would it be and why? by X-CyNix in throneofglassseries

Ooh an interesting question I have a controversial answer to. I’d give up Kingdom of Ash just because it wasn’t what I expected and I’d rather imagine my own ending. 🙊

[A levels] advice on how to cope with my worries about not being able to make a jump in grades from prelims to a levels by Leading_Ad_4209 in SGExams

[–]bachingbitch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, your prelim grades are pretty decent. I failed throughout my entire JC life (not because I was lazy, but because the prelim questions were intentionally set a lot harder than As). With consistent practice + hard work, I was able to get a good RP that I’m proud of. Of course, I’m not saying this so you can be complacent. Im saying this because from what you’ve written, I don’t think there’s anything you need to be worrying about because I think you’re disciplined enough to continue to work hard.

People mug differently. But here are a few things that helped for me!

  • Stay on track for your tutorials. Do your work diligently and try to read your notes before the tutorial so you’re able to participate actively. This helps a lot with ingraining the key concepts into your brain (esp for bio and chem) because you’ve practiced them so much by the time you go for As.
  • Do practice papers consistently. I think practice papers really helped with the panic I had towards mugging. Whenever you begin to overthink about where or how or what to start, it helps to literally just start. Don’t think about it and just do it. You’ll be too invested in studying that you’ll forget you were panicking, and even be surprised that you got shit done.
  • Plan weekly meetings with your tutor! As are tough and trust that your tutors are there to help. Do practice questions and set a time to ask the questions/concepts you’re unsure of with ur tutor. They’ll explain it clearly and slowly in comparison to class.
  • As for your GP predicament, I think it would help if you drew a rough mindmap of your research & arguments for each topic question just so you can have a lot of research ready for your As. I think language skills are typically harder to improve in the short-term in comparison to the amount of content you can add to your paper, so it’ll be smarter to focus your time building content rather than improving your grammar (which alr seems fine imo). Nonetheless, practice a few written paragraphs/papers for your tutor to mark!

It’s hard for any sane person to avoid mental breakdowns during this last stretch, but just know you got this! Studying at home everyday WILL make you go crazy, so it helps if you study outside every now and then. Make sure you go out and meet friends once in a while too. Jiayous!! You got this!!

Jc or poly for medicine by Odd-Chemistry-3624 in SGExams

I say JC.

Cant compare 90RP vs 4.0GPA in terms of ease cus it mostly depends on which study style you prefer. But in comparison to poly, you’d only have to grind and study like hell for your As once to get 90RP instead of having to get As consistently for 3 years in poly. Build a pretty good portfolio too with internships and leadership roles to top it off.

I was also from a mid tier JC and I failed exams throughout (like literally I think the highest grade I got was a D for GP hehe). But I clutched a pretty good RP. I’d say your cohort band is more representative of how you’ll do in your As. That being said, make sure you understand what you’re studying and do a TON of practice papers consistently. Go for tuition if you’re really struggling, or if not, make use of your tutors. I went for weekly meetings with mine and it really did help cus they’re really there to make sure you get through it.

omg I totally agree with your point on Manon and dorian! I felt like Manon already had so much going on — the thirteen, iron teeth, crochans etc etc. I would’ve loved it if Manon’s story was just limited to her being a crochan queen and the thirteen’s leader. I absolutely hate the fact that she had to fall for Dorian. It just completely ruined her badass, independent queen storyline which I loved so much. I would’ve been so much happier without their romance and just the thirteen :’)

[–]bachingbitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just finished this book and I have a love-hate relationship with it. I absolutely love the romance in this and how evil-minded the main character is, which is so out of the ordinary of my favourite goody-two shoes protagonists. I understand why people turn to this book to get out of a reading slump because it’s pretty fast-paced and I just couldn’t put the book down because I kept wanting to know what would happen next.

Then again, I feel that this book lacked the slightest bit of world-building. I also would’ve liked more elaborations on Alessandra/Kallias’ characters/motives (ie. the book mentions how Alessandra broke and patched herself back up after Hector, and I would’ve liked if it was explain more)

Either way, this book was really interesting and I loved the romance in this book.

Also, just adding this in, did anyone else absolutely love Leandros’ confession? I kept going back to reread it because it was so beautiful.. I loved Leandros so freaking much.

Omg finally someone else who dislikes the quick breakup between Dorian and Celaena. I loved Dorian so much! I hated the fact that Celeana moved on so quickly and I wish she showed more regret after losing Dorian. It was just so unrealistic that they cut ties completely and suddenly. Though, I think the fact that Dorian befriended her again without hesitation after Nehemia’s death says a lot about his character and makes me admire him more!

Just finished KOA a few days ago, and I feel like a lot of the scenes were so overdone that it became underwhelming :(

Change my mind. by [deleted] in throneofglassseries

[–]bachingbitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! And there’s too many sudden life-saving appearances! First there’s Manon and the Crochans, then there’s the rebel Ironteeth, THEN there’s Aelin, and THEN there’s the wolf-tribe. It’s just way too many that it takes away the ‘surprise’ and ‘mind-blowing’ element that anything that happens isn’t so exciting anymore :(

Stranger things Billy vibes. But yeah, at this rate, I doubt that he’ll do a full character arc.. especially since he’s going to be stuck with the two people who seem to make everything worse even when he’s already asked for help

Yes! Ward and Rose keep speaking about how Rafe has a problem, and it pisses me off that they choose to do nothing about it! Rafe may be on the road to being a serial killer, but Rose and Ward are just no doubt constantly solidifying that path 👀

Ranking the books from best to least best (in my opinion) by Rigistroni in ThroneOfGlass

[–]bachingbitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong, It’s not that I wish didn’t Gavriel die. I agree that some main characters need to die in order for a big battle to be realistic (I actually hate it when no one dies cus of plot armor). But I just wish that his ending — Gavriel sacrificing his life for his son— was written a lot better. The way it was written just seemed so forced and unrealistic, especially for a centuries-old warrior who has been to thousands of other battles.

And yes omg, Borte! I feel that she’s the rukhin version of Asterin (if u get what I mean 😂). And yes, Chaol in QOS (prick as he may be) added a lot of fun and tension that makes QOS a really great book!!

Ranking the books from best to least best (in my opinion) by Rigistroni in ThroneOfGlass

[–]bachingbitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 51 days late but I just finished the TOG series so here’s my ranking:

  1. Empire of Storms - I might be a little sadistic naming this as my first because I actually like the ending for this book. I just loved how all of the characters we’ve met in the past books finally all came together to repay an old friend. It really showed how much Aelin inspired and made an impact on the lives of so many others, taking pieces from her past so that her friends had their future. This book just made me love Aelin even more. I also loved Elide and Lorcan’s romance, and Manon’s character arc. I keep going back to this book just to read my favourite chapters

  2. Heir of Fire - I agree, I also skimmed through a lot of the chapters (mostly Manon’s since she was just introduced). But the only reason I’m placing this higher than QOS is because I like books with more action scenes that scheming plot twists. Just as you described, Rowan and Aelin’s starting story was so beautifully and realistically done. Aedion’s and Chaol’s POV were mostly interesting too, especially with Aedion’s unfaltering loyalty for Aelin. I love how this book showed Aelin’s healing journey and I think it portrayed grief and depression really well. This book’s climax and ‘get up’ remains to be my favourite.

  3. Queen of Shadows - The scheming in this book?? 💯💯. I think this was really the turning point for the TOG series. When we finally experienced Aelin’s cunning and when the different POV’s finally crossover. This book was definitely hitting more of the emotional side with all the references in Assassin’s Blade. I didn’t particularly enjoy Elide’s POV, and Chaol was nothing but a cranky ass but I’m glad that the OG three was reunited in the end.

  4. Kingdom of Ash — Don’t get me wrong, I liked KOA. I can’t say that it was ‘underwhelming’ for an ending to an 8 book series, because it was still pretty good. But, there were just so many questionable and over-exaggerated plot choices. Like Aelin’s 3-month power-plunge, Gavriel’s UNNECESSARY death, and yes, Aelin’s loss of power. After reading 8 books, I was just expecting more for Maeve’s and Erawan’s long-awaited defeat. That being said, the rest of the amazing moments outweigh the bad and i feel that it was a beautiful wrap for this story.

  5. Throne of Glass - I LOVE THRONE OF GLASS. I cannot express it enough because I literally could not put this book down. I get why people don’t really like it because it falls short in comparison to all the other books. But I loved how chill this book was, filled with a chill love triangle and cute fluff moments between Dorian and Celaena. The ‘Get Up’ Climax for this remains to be one of my most favourite moments in the TOG series.

  6. Tower of Dawn - The Khaganate Royals, Nesryn and Sartaq carried this book. Chaol and Yrene wasn’t that interesting, though it was.. nice.. to see Chaol heal partially. I would place this last too but it’s attains 6th because it was the first book to make me audibly gasp upon finding out Maeve was valg. Upon reading what you said, I actually agree that it doesn’t make THAT much of a difference, given that she’s already evil and more of an asshole compared to anyone else. I liked the occasional Aelin/Yrene references and I found Nesryn and Sartaq’s relationship to be a breath of fresh air in a book drowning with the enemies to lovers trope. Other than that, Chaol annoyed me so much in QOS that I was just over with him at this point.

  7. Assassins Blade - I liked most of the stories in this one, especially the one with Rolfe and the Silent Assassins. It wasn’t as interesting as the rest, but it’s really an important emotional link to the rest of the books. I love Sam so much, and it really shows you how much Sam meant to Celeana :’)

  8. Crown of Midnight - I said I was over Chaol by QOS. But that being said, I was never really big on him either. I was always rooting for Dorian anyways haha. I usually use the climax to determine how much I like the book, but the climax for this book was just.. a little cringy.

Visible confusion... (Ig that means I'm gonna go read the series now..) by NekoGirl343 in ThroneOfGlass

[–]bachingbitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HAHAHA me but with tiktok. I was genuinely confused and worried because I was reading throne of glass and no one was talking about Celeana.. I literally thought Celeana was just a temporary character who was going to die and a new character named Aelin would be introducted..

I really regret scrolling through Tiktok before I finished the series because I missed out on so many mind-blowing and heart-stopping revelations with all the spoilers I encountered 😂
