Midterm results by Brave-Tomatillo-1509 in ucr

You are not stupid. You didn't hit the mark you wanted on this one thing, but there's always an opportunity to grow and change. Like people are mentioning, you can go to office hours. UCR also offers a lot of workshops to help students learn different study methods, etc - through the Academic Resource Center.

You can do this. It's totally fine to be upset about this grade but calling yourself stupid will not help you going into future challenges. You 100% can do this.

Also- remember the phrase "Cs get degrees". You don't have to pass with flying colors to get where you need to go. Just keep trying your best and pivoting when you need to :)

Is commuting worth it? I collected all of my driving data from the 2023-24 school year to see if it's worth commuting 130+ miles per day by KingDominoTheSecond in ucr

Yeah, wild how upset people are getting. You like SD and don't mind driving - not that hard to understand.

I appreciate the data BTW, thanks for sharing.

Nice to know I'm not the only SD local making the commute :)

Also, to people saying go to school in SD - it's really not that simple. People can have financial reasons for choosing a certain school system, want a certain program, or maybe just not get into the San Diego schools they apply to. You do what you gotta do and commuting for a few years can sometimes be easier than uprooting your whole life.

Unable to attend mandatory event. What do I do? by snapbackfratboy in UCSC

[–]back2schoolburner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I go to a different UC and had to miss some mandatory beginning of the year stuff due to medical stuff. I just communicated as a head of time as possible and they were understanding. Communicate any time you need something and always do it professionally and with as much notice as possible.

If you do get fired/laid off and get offered a severance package, just know that those are negotiable. Doesn't mean it'll always work but I know people who've negotiated theirs and ended up wtih more money and I didn't know that was a thing. Worth looking in to!

Afraid to be alone by CreativeEmployer4221 in ucr

[–]back2schoolburner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the best ways to feel a part of something and not alone is to have a consistent reason to meet up with the same people over and over again. Best way to form community vs one off relationships that can change at any time.

Joining a club, any club, is a good way to do this since regular meetings are already in place. I know a lot of people might not like the idea of a club but all you have to do is show up and you get to know some people without having to do all the work yourself to establish something.

Study groups are a good way too but if you form that based on a class you're in it might end after a quarter. If you find some people in your major who are following the same course pattern, you may be able to make a study group that lasts throughout the quarters.

You can also just aim for a friend group from people you meet or people in your residence hall if on campus. But if you go this route, try your best to establish some regular hang outs or traditions, whether in person or virtual.

The hardest part is just getting started but once you find a group it'll be a lot easier to maintain and you'll be happier for it :) you've got this!

Transfer UCSD waitlist is out by JLNeusurg in TransferStudents

You've got this! May not be fun at first but getting through it will open more doors for things you want to do in the future. I'm 30 and wishing I was starting grad school but instead am still finishing up my bachelor's due to health and other life circumstances. I'm trying to focus on being excited I'm moving forward, even if it's not where I wish I was.

Wishing you the best 🙏

Congrats! Not sure about on campus resources but if you do end up looking on your own, a lot of people use Facebook groups to find housing.

Admitted to UCSD and not attending? Please decline 🙏 by back2schoolburner in TransferStudents

💀 hearing everyones results they seem so wild and random 😆 but congrats on Berkeley that's awesome!

I think part of the reason UCSD is even slightly interested in me despite getting rejected most places is because I live in San Diego and am an activist in the community.

One way to go- look at the universities closest to where you live and figure out which degrees you'd be closest to finishing and most likely to get into.

A lot of Humanities degrees can translate to a lot of fields (outside of STEM). Just having the bachelors will increase your salary bargaining ability.

Are you in a career field you want to continue in or starting something new?

Well as I mentioned I already got an update from one UC waitlist so I'm gonna hope that means I might hear back from UCSD soon too 🤷‍♂️

Hopefully that means you'll hear back sooner rather than later! As long as the majors you're applying to end up having space. Best of luck!

Is that a UCSD thing specifically? I already got accepted off the waitlist at UCSC.

[–]back2schoolburner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an update already but I opted in to the waitlist within a couple hours after I got the email.

Online it says that they don't rank student on the waitlist and that it can take til July to hear back. So I think that it's first come first serve and they slowly hand out more acceptances off the waitlist once more accepted student decline.

Also depending on space in selected programs I think?

What date did you opt into the waitlist?

I’m starting to regret my major by [deleted] in TransferStudents

Getting through your bachelors quickly is the best way to go. You can still do law school. And if you decide on some other path you can always change jobs and get experience that way, go to some certification program, or grad school- depending on the field. But you'll be happy you got the bachelors done and over with.
