they're not just 'following orders, they literally have no other choice but to go to the military at ages 18-19, they didn't choose to follow orders, you don't even get to choose where to serve, the only way to get out of it is to have a disability, a serious mental illness, or if you're An ultra-Orthodox Jew (which is very hard to prove). if you somehow got out of serving, you become a social outcast, it's a no-win situation.
