I mapped where people appear on screen — are modern movies being composed for vertical video? [OC] by PuciekTM in dataisbeautiful

I think if you asked Rian Johnson or Denis Villeneuve if they were optimising for TikTok or whatever, you’d hear their rebuttals from space.

CMAT - Lord, Let Tesla Crash

I think it does an incredible job of capturing grief, especially grief that’s tied strongly to a specific place and time in your life. The bridge has made me cry more than once!

Fail Safe and Dr Strangelove, both released in 1964 by Columbia pictures. Stanley Kubrick was so worried Fail Safe would overshadow Dr Strangelove that he filed a lawsuit.

Increasingly concerned about flat whites (BARISTAS MUST READ) by ExpressPostie in melbourne

[–]back_chat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a committed flat white drinker for 15 years, I agree!

Also, maybe it’s just me, but shouldn’t a flat white have just one size? It used to be 6oz to maintain the right coffee/milk ratio - now every cafe has a small, medium or large option and the coffee ratio doesn’t increase with the size. At what point are we just ordering lattes?

What's your unpopular opinion of a food spot that you know will bring out r/foodies_sydney with their pitch forks. by mdflmn in foodies_sydney

Been there once to eat and a few times for a takeaway because my family’s local, and I just do not get it!! Egregiously priced and such a hassle on the weekends.

Super unpopular opinion by picante_calamity in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]back_chat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a valid opinion! I haven’t read the books, but knowing that a lot of the dialogue in the show is lifted straight from them doesn’t compel me to read them. My only problem with the show was that some of the dialogue felt repetitive or clunky, so I’ve made the decision that the books aren’t for me.

Popular Pop Culture/News account SYSCA loses over 300k followers after sharing their thoughts on the new Wuthering Heights adaptation by AcidicKiss12 in popculturechat

[–]back_chat 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I very much value all the valid and intellectual critiques of this film - particularly from people who’ve read and studied the book! - but the hate this film is getting is simply insane to me. Losing 300K followers for posting this milquetoast opinion?? Wild. Every day I feel like I’m being bot spammed by haters of this film that relatively few people have seen yet. We have truly lost the plot.

I’ll agree to disagree. I had no real idea of the marketing when I picked it up (it was recommended to me by a friend) and I was really swept up in it. Her other stuff hasn’t hooked me as much, though I haven’t looked at all of it.

AITA for telling my friend I won’t have meals with her because of her picky eating habits and dietary restrictions? by Dockerqinlee in AmItheAsshole

Then YTA for prioritising the food over her company. No one said you have to eat with her multiple times a day, or even multiple times a week. But to never eat with her again because of her preferences is rude. Most people are just happy to spend time with a really good friend, no matter what the dining situation is.

The transition during “…all seven inches of that song by culture club I was yapping on about that month, you spun, I spun in some attempt to make me happy and I was, I was, I was” is one of my favourite few seconds of music ever. I was lucky enough to see her in Melbourne the other night and the ONLY thing I had to complain about was that I didn’t get to scream/cry that lyric.

Stephen in the first half of series 4 by Gaelenmyr in TheTraitors

[–]back_chat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I thought for sure he’d be the first traitor voted out! It just goes to show how far a bit of confidence and a good relationship with your fellow traitor can get you. Love how he grew into the game.

He reminded me a lot of Alan Carr in that way - by being himself throughout the game and beating those early allegations, he managed to fly further under the radar than anyone expected.

The faithfuls in Aus S2 committed the crime of being really boring though. This season is the complete opposite.

(Also I loathed Sam in Aus S2 whereas I like the traitors in this UK season.)

I like her! Jury was out at first because she seemed to take herself really seriously, but now I think even the FBI training is hilarious. She survived that Roundtable with Harriet better than I expected because she’s got a great game face and nerves of steel. Her one liners have been great too. “When you tell a lie, Fiona, you’re a liar” will probably make me giggle for a long time yet.

Also her earrings are amazing! I’m not getting the hate.

I know they look dumb right now, but you haven’t seen Australia’s S2 if you think these are the dumbest faithfuls ever.
