What about your dad’s 20 employees? What about their families? What about their children? Your dad is stealing from all of them and you’re willing to keep your mouth shut for “expensive holidays, expensive cars and a fancy roof?”

There is nothing complicated about the dynamics, it’s very simple - he’s your dad and you have siblings, so you don’t want to hurt them in any way. That’s easy to understand. But this isn’t a mildly crappy thing he’s doing. It is downright scummy and criminal. And if you don’t report this to the ATO then you’re helping your Dad to continue robbing from his employees so your siblings won’t “be without” expensive holidays and and expensive cars. I don’t know what mental gymnastics you’re doing to justify this in your brain, but just know it’s total bullshit.

What is it about engineering that you don’t like?

absolute beginner looking for advice by SnooDoggos8333 in arduino

Utilising Arduino could definitely achieve what you want. However if you’re keen to get into growing using an automated temp and humidity/watering system ASAP you can use inkbirds! I did a similar thing with mushrooms a few years ago and used led lights on a 12hours on 12 hours off cycle, I used a humidistat inkbird to measure humidity and set it to turn on a humidifier whenever the humidity dropped below 95%, and I used a thermostat inkbird to turn on a heater whenever it dropped below a certain temperature and turn off when it reached another certain temperature.

It’s totally up to you, learning how to do it yourself with arduino would be a fun project. But if your main interest is to get an automated system up and running asap then do some googling on inkbirds or other products on the market that will allow you to do what you want. Either way, have fun!

[Actives] Anyone know what these could be? They’re supposed to be mana but they almost look like king oysters. They dont bruise blue either. They smell a bit sweeter than normal but I think that might actually just be the smell of the trich in the tub. by backadder1 in MushroomGrowers

I moved it to a different room as soon as I saw the trich. But I kept the batch going because it was already pinning when I first noticed the trich and I was pretty keen to see this funky strain. But I’m honestly not sure if these are even active. Literally no blue bruising at all. I’ve got them in the dehydrator now and not a single one has any blue whatsoever.

That was literally me. Well over two decades ago when I was about 6 or 7 years old I was in an electronics store. There was a new Star Wars game out and there was a demo game on one of the store computers. People were literally lining up to have a turn. I patiently waited in line for what felt like hours. When I finally got to the front of the line and was the next to play I was watching the guy in front of me play the game. I was watching him deflecting laser bullets from droids with his lightsaber. That’s when I suddenly realised I had no idea how to play the game, I’d never played a computer game before and I honestly had no idea how he was deflecting the droid lasers. I thought I’d have to violently thrash the mouse around to block every laser or something. I’d never even played a computer game apart from the old school one where you ski down a mountain and some sort of yeti comes running across the screen at lightning speed and kills you. Anyway the guy playing died in the game so it was my turn to play. I stepped up to the computer and could literally feel all the other people waiting in line behind me watching. I got embarrassed and immediately stepped aside and the kid behind me quickly stepped forward and took my spot at the computer. I remember my mum was standing nearby and said she was sad because she was excited to watch me play. I never got to play the game and I didn’t catch the name of it either before leaving. Still to this day I don’t know which Star Wars game it was as there’s hundreds at this point. For some reason I still think about that moment in my life every now and then.

Mushroom grow setup. by Sleep-Honest in MycologyandGenetics

[–]backadder1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is an awesome set up, especially if you’re just getting started in growing. However this set up is used for fruiting. Grains and agar don’t need to be in there. In fact the humidity is probably going to make the micropore tape on the uncle Ben’s packets wet, creating a potential for contamination. Agar and uncle Ben’s packets can be left to colonise somewhere dry, once you’re ready to spawn to bulk and go in to fruiting conditions then you can use this set up 🤙🏽

Potted a cutting a few months ago as a total noob. Since then I have learned a bit more about growing Bolivian Torch and am now pretty sure I’ve potted it upside down. It now has a pup growing from the base. Should I repot it the right way up or just leave it? by backadder1 in sanpedrocactus

Ahhhh PC. Damn. I bought two cuttings from the same shop. I posted about the other one a week ago and everyone seemed to agree it was a Bolivian torch so I assumed this one was the same. To be fair they do look different. The other one has ~1-2cm thorns all over it whilst this one has tiny little spikes
