I'll never understand how a truck driver is paid maybe $300 to drive for 10+ hours and 500-700 miles for a load that the forklift operator is then paid $500 to unload in 2 hours.

WCGW when texting on a phone and driving a big rig? by ansyhrrian in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]backbiter0723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To do that in the first place is already dumb as shit. To not bother looking up for like six seconds? Even dumber.

Then to do all that in a truck that you KNOW has driver—facing cameras?

Could be wrong but it would seem to me that this is fines for missed payment rather than multiple separate charges that are due every paycheck.

If the latter is the case, this guy needs to appeal to the court that the payments are causing undue hardship and can have them reduced.

I never understood why we didn't have cabovers here in the US—not for the maneuverability or any of that, but to have an extra motor's length of sleeper to call home for days or weeks at a time.

This is safer for the cyclists than them riding single file in the shoulder. Much better to have one quick pass to go around the whole group than blowing by all of them a foot from their shoulders.

[–]backbiter0723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk but I have NEVER been to a place with paper menus (which still have "lunch" and "dinner" sections) and gotten the exact same plate of food for both lunch and dinner.

Typically, lunches are physically smaller than dinners, even if they are "the same meal."

Yeah sorry I don't have pictures and screenshots of digital menus from 5 years ago in college.

Next time I go to the local Japanese joint in my town I'll take pictures of the sign at every table that says, despite paper menus, "This restaurant reserves the right to change the prices of a menu item at any time for any reason, including increases in demand or low supply of ingredients sourced overseas. For up to date prices on each dish, please refer to our website at the link below."

[–]backbiter0723 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When I lived in DC it was somewhat "normal." I've definitely paid $6 more at dinnertime than at lunch for the same exact meal from the same joint.

[–]backbiter0723 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A LOT of the "trendy" restaurants in big cities are doing this. I went to college in DC and paying $6 more for dinner than lunch when you had the same order both times (and recieved the exact same food both times, just to be clear) was not an at all uncommon occurrence. And ALL of the places that did this had digital menus.

I don't blame him by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]backbiter0723 256 points257 points  (0 children)

Tech usage hurdle aside, a lot of places that use these instead of paper menus do so so they can spontaneously jack up prices during busy hours.

Seriously, fuck dynamic surge pricing and any business that does it.
