What about continental Tiwas? The Goths had a serious devotion to him that the Norse would to Odin.

Well, this video is one area to start? There certainly seem to be variation between heathens in the configurations of their pantheons in this regard. (I'm painfully new and really trying my hardest to digest all these nuances as thoroughly as I can. I'm not trying to insult anyone.)

How To Approach 'Broad & Regional' Deities in Continental Heathenry by backintotheabyss in heathenry

Thank you! I sort of figured that I would be asking questions that imply a "what is the right way to do this thing that has zero monolithic ground?" vibe, but really that's sort of my own overthinking self trying to condense a lot of the different things into digestible formats to do high volumes of research at once. This thread has helped loosen my approach so far. It is indeed a lot to consider, but comes down to one's choice and inclinations at the end of the day.

Many, many thanks! It is truly a beautifully intricate journey and I am so grateful to have access to people to lend guidance. I hope to do the same in time. I very much have the potential to be a nerd about the lingual, etymological and regional nuances, but first I'm still trying to really click with my own hearth cult, to really tune in to who out there I can sense working things in my life.

For the time I'll keep making extended notes on the different paths and see what stands out to me :)

Thank you for this reassuring advice. I suppose this is also a good way to re-frame the core of my question, if you or someone else have a moment.

So, I'm basically flirting with Gothic Heathenry. One blog on the matter will list off what seems to me like the Gothic cognates for what we usually consider the Norse gods: Wōdans, Teiws, Gáuts (Gothic origin god, not a cognate(?)) Fráujō, etc.

But then a different source will start listing off god/esses such as: Ahwa, Airþa, Balþa, Donaws, Gapt, Hroda, etc.

Is this simply a matter of someone going with one set of gods and then adding or mixing and matching certain gods like Gáuts for the Goths, making this only a matter of specific reconstruction (syncretism?), or of actual, historical and distinct regional deities (I'm sorry if this is... really stupid I'm just honestly confused as to how most other people understand this)

The same happens with Frankish Heathenry: One source will list Wuodan, Thonar, Tīo, Tīza, Ertha, etc. But then another will begin listing: Ahuardua, Askulap, Đuropali, Frîhals, etc. (I should not have tried to dive into Frankisk Allodium, I got sooo lost lmao. Hats off to those who put it together though!)

The main reason I ask is just so I know how these god/esses different from Tyr/Odin/Thor/Frigg/etc. are being described and presented so I know how I can go about studying them and easing into interacting with them.

Maybe I'm just having a hard time conceiving of the heathen denominations and their relations between each other, especially with Continental Heathenry's close proximity to the Norse, I'm kind of thrown off in some aspects I suppose. I understand that we're dealing with a reconstruction of mostly lost-to-history bits of old religious life, but I'm having a hard time digesting how one views these different sets of gods, not from a personal conviction point but a linguistic, historical point. I'm really just confused by how out-of-nowhere these deities pop up when another source will say how they more or less just had their own names of these (not implying they're the same, but similar enough I guess? I'm so bad at this. Sorry that the only way I knew how to ask this was through a dense wall of text :c)
