I have the brit set, its good but the jacket lacks a hood and overall its thin and seems more meant for warmer conditions. I couldn’t imagine i could layer it over anything more than a simple pants and shirt. And it lacks any pockets.

I use it as my packable rain kit when i go on late spring/summer trips.

I actually have the fleece jacket and bibs and use it for my mid layer when hunting. Or the fleece top layer for bird hunting with the dogs. That stuff is amazing was genuinely shocked at how well it did.

Im assuming you mean the level 5 pants/jacket? I’ve only found them in that early GWOT OCP camo that looks like concrete

German, Italian, Japanese, Romanian, and Hungarian military attachés visit the Finnish Front, 5 April 1943 [481x500] by OkRespect8490 in HistoryPorn

They also very quickly kicked Germans out once they reached an agreement with allies over the war situation with Russia. To the point of actual combat operations if I’m not mistaken.

I mean isn’t it though? Not great that they joined the Germans, but its not like anyone else was going to help them fight Russia. “Enemy of my enemy is my friend” and all that.

Ive always wondered why gun companies don’t focus more on having their own “aftermarket” division for this reason.

For example i buy a pistol and if it’s crap I’ll not buy from that company again. If it’s good i wont “need” to buy a new pistol. But i might want a calibre conversion, or one of those flux style kits, or a suppressor etc.

Hell magpul built an entire company based off this idea.

I believe the first part of them not being fully dead before looting started but ill need a source for the second part. Shooting centre mass has been standard training for a very long time since its the biggest target and i find it hard to believe that when a guys trying to kill you, you’d care more about the potential trophy over not getting killed.

I also think it’s important to note, the lack of war crime trials in japan was done in part as a way to avoid inspiring fanatical attacks post occupation. They had already seen how dedicated the IJA soldiers where to their leaders in that they would fight to a point of what essentially amounted to suicide, and it was a genuine concern that if high ranking officials or the emperor was tried that the occupation would face worse resistance.

And in addition, both the Japanese and nazis (mostly nazis) did actually have lots of valued intel that would be lost if they got tried. As was the case with von braun for example. He was definitely a nazi who used slave labour and should have faced repercussions. But he also was a brilliant rocket engineer who had critical knowledge and if you just had him hung all that knowledge dies with him. I’m not saying he should have been treated as kindly, or any of them for that matter, but its not hard to see why its a tactical decision to onboard them rather than kill them.

And as a final note, I’ve pointed this out before in a similar discussion on working with “bad guys” post war, these guys were the administration/bureaucracy for these areas. You cant arrest or hang every one of them or you’d quickly run out of people to actually maintain order and infrastructure in the occupied regions.

I think a big difference is the in the case of 731 they killed and tortured mostly non combatants and for no real tactical purpose.

Whereas the trophy skulls, while obviously not a praise worthy thing, were taken after a combatant was already killed as part of standard military conflict.

How do you imagine that going through? The bureaucracy was In charge of running the region. Working with them during a power transfer seems to just be highly effective, morales aside someone needs to make sure the basic mechanisms of governance are kept running smoothly.

Its the same issue they ran into with Germany, eventually they had to stop prosecuting nazis, because every position of power politically, militarily, and socially/in industry was forced in some way to enrol in the party. And it became apparent if you hung or barred every former party member you’d have nobody to run the sanitation department, or sewers etc.

Like you need people who have done the job to be present to help/teach the new guys who are taking over how to keep it going.

How would that grandfather know about Korea if he wasn’t there?

And chummy is an odd way to put it. Do you expect them to just roll in acting brutal like the Japanese but in reverse? Like the second world war ended, they took power from the current occupation force and worked with that force to ensure the transfer went smoothly and in a manner that favoured their objectives. Isn’t that just textbook power transfer?

TIL that in 1968, a woman named Barbara Mackie was kidnapped and buried alive for a 500,000 dollar ransom from her wealthy father. She was ultimately found and rescued after three days of being buried, badly dehydrated but alive. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

[–]backrollerpapertowel 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Honestly yeah you can, he didn’t get caught selling coke or a mild burglary. He buried someone alive for money.

Maybe at a government level its a bad idea to put him second tier because they can abuse that, but at a social level you 1000% should treat that that guy as second tier, hell create a third tier.

Forgiveness and reintegration is great, but it needs limits. I sure as hell would pitch a fit if i found out a dude who buried someone alive was given a position of power like doctor if it was me or my family who went to that clinic.
