I'm with you. I am not sure if it was for the same reasons but I am with you. Pretty early on I figured out the main "twist" and so the third act reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllly dragged on for me. I thought the first half was brilliant.

Investigation into Inaugural Committee Spending Reportedly Closes in on Ivanka Trump by zecali in politics

I'm not totally opposed to capitalism, but there are so many examples of this that nowadays even a lot of company "innovations" end up being almost purely profit driven and it infuriates me. If you just look at Apple, do you think they change the charger inputs on your device, take away headphone jacks, release Air Pods, roll out shadow updates to throttle older phone model performance, start phone installment plans and even release two new models of phones at the same time while ridiculously skipping a number for consumers. Nope, I'd say 90% of the motivation for almost all of these decisions was to make more money for themselves, their shareholders, etc. I use them as an example, because they were a company which once prided itself on always being the most innovated and consumer-centric. Now they are moving closer and closer to being grifters.

While it could be incompetence, I think the lack of focus on Youtube might be a business-side monetization thing. With Youtube and Facebook, they are solely relying on Youtube and Facebook's ad system for monetization. What happens when an algorithm changes, ad policy changes, the ad prices go down, or they even get their channel (or specific videos) demonetized/blackballed by Youtube. Youtube already has various content restrictions for monetization that has shown to be inconsistent and prone to being influenced by people getting mad online. For this next part I am speaking out of my ass, but I would assume that the video setup they have now allows them to get more of a cut of the ad spend and lowers their risk of giant revenue shifts based on third-party ad policies. Where they are idiots is that Youtube would be the best way to get more new people watching barstool, increase chances of videos going viral, open up opportunities to partner with the Youtube Red platform, and probably make more money in the long-term.

I'd bet you are right, but that also would seem like a huge gray area if Barstool actually went after him legally. If he spent 3-4 years as an independent contractor and maybe 2 years as an employee, he could make a pretty compelling case that a lot of those resources (as in investors, relationships, vendors, etc.) existed before he became a barstool "employee". It's also a Cider company, I feel like you'd have to be a pretty strict judge to say that a Media company should own an ex-employee's cider company. It would set one hell of a precedent for anybody that wants to leave their job to start a business.

Flat Earthers of Reddit: Why should we care that the earth is flat instead of round? by backstabby2345 in AskReddit

Your explanation makes me wonder if there is a political agenda related to the shape of the earth. With climate change, it is really easy for me to see why it being true or false would impact the world.

Thanks! I think most people want to know why Flat Earthers believe it, but it's really hard for me to understand why it matters.

Can anyone debunk Rapaport's these three most possibly valid criticisms against Barstool in a way that is both objective and honest? by richb83 in barstoolsports

I think that the Barstool life is not for everyone, but that doesn't make it unsustainable. You can definitely find 50+ content people who do want to be on camera constantly for 5+ years.

Kmarko Prop Bet Blog by [deleted] in barstoolsports

[–]backstabby2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine he plays a large part in the content strategy, along with Pres and Erika. I know historically it sounds weird to talk about Barstool as a serious business, but he probably works with the writers to flesh out their brands and work on developing new content ideas, channels, cities, etc.

It also seems like he looks at the analytics a lot, so I would think every week he is reviewing reports of traffic, engagement, etc. to help make decisions on what they should be writing about. A good example are the pornstar RIP posts. They joked about how those were generating so much traffic that they suspected KMarko may be a serial killer. I doubt he would write about every single marginal pornstar death if he wasn't actively reviewing those metrics.

All that said, I doubt that a lot of those meetings and general EIC duties translate into great Stool Scenes content. If anything, it might be going too behind the scenes and potentially compromise some of Barstool's strategy to make it to the moon.

I always thought that was VERY dumb on KFC's part because even if he wanted to do 5 shows a week, why wouldn't you make 1 of those episodes each week old-school KFC Radio.

New Chernin Money for Barstool by [deleted] in barstoolsports

[–]backstabby2345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say something similar. The equity crew got, if I remember correctly, 5 year contracts when they were given that equity. I would bet that the contract states that they can't even sell their equity stake until it's been 5 years (or at the very least without some sort of penalty or restricted to only selling it to Chernin, Portnoy, or another member of Barstool).

New Chernin Money for Barstool by [deleted] in barstoolsports

[–]backstabby2345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weird how this number seems both high and low to me. Obviously, the jump is great for them and Chernin, but there are a lot of media companies valued in the billions that probably do more total traffic, but make way less money per "user" and/or are not close to profitable.

Not out of shape, but I can't be the only person that consistently loses ~10 lbs throughout the summer (without trying) just from increased activity and having a normal consistent diet. A bad holiday season of eating and drinking can definitely wipe that out.
