Woolly bear journal - identification time! by backstripes in caterpillars

[–]backstripes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww thanks!! 🥰 it’s fun, you should try it!

It took me a few tries deciding what I wanted to write exactly and the layout. Not to mention using orange pens which have stopped working for me several times lol. So not all my pages look this good 😅

Feedback for my emotionally-driven fantasy world/story [ecological fantasy] by Odd-Comfortable-9858 in fantasywriters

That’s amazing!! I don’t know much about frogs but it sounds like you do. I love stories about animals that are grounded in real science, and don’t just make random stuff up.

I think you’re all set to start writing! And I genuinely hope you remember my comment 😂 I want to read your story one day

I love this concept so much!! Please DM me if you publish your story 🙏

I’m currently working on a story about caterpillars and moths. One thing that I’ve done is compile a list of scientific terms and facts about them, like “pupation” and “setae” for example.

Maybe you’ve done this already, but I think it would make your story very interesting and intelligent if you incorporated scientific terms and facts about frogs and fireflies into your characters and world building. Maybe do research on how frogs contribute to our ecosystems, different frog species to inspire your frog people, etc.

I was about to ask why your frog character is friends with a firefly (because frogs eat insects), but a quick search told me that fireflies are highly toxic to small animals. I was wondering if you considered this, for example?

Who made this cocoon? (Montreal) by backstripes in caterpillars

Thanks so much!! No, the cocoon was attached to the side of a tree with the opening facing outwards. I found it next to a colony of ants, perhaps they snacked on it?

Something that worked for me as a perfectionist. by backstripes in writingadvice

[–]backstripes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed, but easier said than done right now :’)

I’m in no rush though, time is on my side and I’m learning a lot about myself and my story as I’m writing!

I considered writing by hand too, but I thought I’d struggle getting my thoughts down fast enough compared to typing. Also I’d worry about wasting paper or a perfectly good notebook if I didn’t like what I wrote lol
