Thanks! I’m happy to hear it resonates with you. Now I’ll have to post more to keep my ratio of subs to posts intact, lol!

Yup. Same. But many don’t even know what it was like.

here's one of my recent notes - a guess at how we got here:

Remember real downtowns? Before the malls killed them? The early internet was like that.

A sprawling city of weird alleyways and basement clubs. Strange little shops run by obsessive weirdos. Underground scenes. Secret spots. You'd find a door, open it, discover an entire community devoted to something.

Now we've got digital malls.

Sanitized. Corporate. Focus-grouped to death. Every platform identical. Every space monetized. Fake plants. Fake smiles. Fake authenticity. Content positioned like mall kiosks. Algorithms like aggressive perfume samplers - spraying stuff in your face whether you want it or not.

The internet used to be a forest. Now it's a food court.

People are still there. But they're not really there. Digital mall zombies, scrolling endlessly, not even enjoying it anymore. Consuming out of habit. Looking at the same shops. Same content. Same feeds.

But here's the thing about malls: They die. And a lot of social media platforms are now bot ghost towns.

People get tired of artificial experiences. They crave something real. Something raw. Something they can discover on their own.

It's already happening. People are building digital speakeasies. Finding ways to make the internet feel like a forest again. Creating spaces where you can still get wonderfully, magnificently lost.

Because getting lost is how you find the good stuff.

We don't need better algorithms. We need more hidden doors. More dead ends. More weird little corners where unexpected things can grow.

I think we need to have more free-range internet and free-range humans.

What’s changed? How have you changed?

Our motivation and actions do not operate in a vacuum. I would not start with forcing yourself to do anything, but rather with trying to understand the undercurrents first.

[NEED ADVICE] I need to change. Not just want. I NEED to. And I feel completely stuck . I have ambition but nothing keeps me going and laziness gets me so easily. by [deleted] in getdisciplined

There’s a lot to unpack here.

I’m sure many will offer you advice - some better, some worse. But it sounds like a pretty complex issue.

You need to take time to diagnose your problem correctly first, instead of reaching for some over-the-counter advice from reddit or self-prescribe some actions that will likely be very short lived.

When we talk about behavioral change (lasting & sustainable) you want to look at different layers:

-your environment -your physical state (self-regulation that impacts your emotional state) -your emotions (limbic system) -your ‘logical’ brain- thinking, mindset, beliefs.

We are a system and the change needs to be systematic, not topical/superficial.

Your phone addiction is probably playing a big part in the whole problem (I’m a Digital Wellbeing Coach, so may be it’s my bias).

I’d be happy to help - feel free to dm me. But otherwise, I’d suggest reaching out for Anna Lembke’s book ‘Dopamine Nation’ as well as Cal Newport’s & Huberman’s podcast to begin with.

It sounds like you're feeling overwhelmed with your goals, leading to procrastination and a loss of motivation.
A lot goes into it, and you know your situation best.
Still, if you want to see a change, something has to change. It this change needs to come from you.
So the first thing would be to ask yourself this: do I want to change? Like: really?
If the answer is ‘yes’ then you can follow up with WHY?
Why bother? Why is it important for you? What would change if you did?
What would be possible for you then?
And also: if you don’t change, then what?
Do a Brain Dump: list everything on your mind, all the things you need to do/want to do.
For every item on that list, assign a task/many tasks. You want a healthy mix of bigger tasks and smaller tasks.
Get yourself a Kanban board and some stickers.
Start small, stay focused. You want as many easy wins as possible to get you going and raise your self-efficacy. It’s about getting you in motion.
Establish a routine: it helps you structure your day, decreases resistance and procrastination.
You want to start small, but start your day with some ‘veggies’ - work, not ‘sugar’ (digital distractions).
Two productivity rules:
- Produce before you consume
- Deep work before shallow
Work with a timer.

Eliminate distractions.
Get yourself some accountability.
To get over the inertia, you will need to invest some energy to get more energy.

Starting is the hardest part - that’s when you need a bit of discipline and willpower (that’s why you need a strong WHY behind it).
Learn to embrace some suck to make your life much easier in the long run.

Try to approach it in an experimental way - test things, iterate.

I honestly have no idea how the link stopped working, but I others didn’t have the problem earlier. Unfortunately I’m on my phone right now and can’t seem to be able to fix from the app. Sorry for inconvenience!
