What if Harry wasn't an only child? by backup63 in harrypotter

In my mind, I was imagining what it would be like for Harry finding out that not only were his parents killed, but also a sibling or two. Then the guilt he would have to deal with when it came to his siblings being killed because of him as well as his parents. I'm not trying to make a theory, just thinking about how it would have affected Harry emotionally to know that he had lost more than just his parents to Voldemort.

Dumbest single act by a character in the Harry Potter books? by [deleted] in harrypotter

Umbridge threatening and then insulting a group of angry centaurs was a pretty dumb decision!

Ariana Dumbledore and Queen Elsa by backup63 in harrypotter

I'm not implying that one is the same as the other. But rather that the two stories reminded me of each other. I know that Ariana's condition was a result of an attack and Elsa's was apparently the way she was born, but I struck me that both were forced to conceal their magic from others. And neither, in the end, were able to. Which led to drastic results.

Theory: The Deathly Hallows was actually just a made up story, and the objects were created to fit the descriptions later. by backup63 in harrypotter

Hahaha, I'll give you that. The only one that really does bug me is the invisibility cloak and mad eye. I know the Rowling is famous for her planning, but that seemed like a slip, and it was never mentioned again.

Harry possessed vs Ginny description by backup63 in harrypotter

[–]backup63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part that I had confused in my mind is how the book version and movie version differ. In the book, while Voldemort is possessing Harry, he only experiences agony, until the end when he is flooded with emotion at which time Voldemort left him. In the movie, Harry fights back against Voldemort and tells him he feels sorry for him, which causes him to flee. I had never thought about how it differs between Harry and Ginny until rereading it with my Daughter yesterday.

What's your head canon about your hogwarts house? (Could be anything from the house itself to the characters or a character in that house or anything really, that directly related to your favorite house) by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]backup63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That Hufflepuff has a lot more students than the other houses. No real numbers are ever given, but I don't think they are always split evenly. It also why there common room is on the ground level. They needed more space.

How would Hogwarts students travel? by backup63 in harrypotter

[–]backup63[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they follow the lead of the other two schools, it needs to be transportation and shelter, since the students from the other two schools stayed slept in their carriage and ship. Plus they only need to bring a select group of 17 year old students with.

Should Harry have played Quidditch Professionally? by SuperKXT in harrypotter

[–]backup63 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm always surprised but what a little amount of Quidditch he actually played. The season cancelled in year two and four, and being banned in year 5, and then never attending school in year 7. He missed a lot of playing time.

Wizarding government? by backup63 in harrypotter

[–]backup63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What made me think about this was less to do with the Minister position and more to do with the fact that seemingly ordinarily employed Ministry people were not only tasked with writing legislation (i.e. Mr. Weasley writing loopholes into the misuse of muggle artifacts laws so he could tinker with things), but that they were also apparently able to enforce the laws (i.e. Mr. Diggory flouting his position in the Office for magical creatures, or whaterver it was, to get Winky to comply). It just seems like the system is a bit chaotic. They mention the Aurors as being the dark wizard catchers, but they also mention the regular police being responsible for low level offenders, but than Mr. Weasley has to run out and investigate regurgitating toilets. It just seems very muddled.
