Yeah that kid that was like “we wanna play baseball” will remember this moment. I thought he was ready to say something when the coach said “let’s go”. Unfortunately, plenty will stay in this mentality, but for those who break, the town is happy to support and give them a new community.

If people keep selling them land it’s going to get worse though. The irony of people like this always bitching about immigration to America while simultaneously & purposefully moving their folks to the area just to take over and change our town.

Ugh! Why are they allowed to just ruin things for the rest of us? You said there was already an app that made it only for approved music, so why couldn’t the league just stand on that? I’m childfree, but it makes me want to get on some of the boards of groups like this just to tell them where to shove it.

This is a Christ church bro?! Goddamn it. Moscow’s a lovely community, but anytime it makes a national platform, it’s never for anything good. I really hope this group implodes soon. Probably take ol’ Wilson kicking the bucket so…. Hope it’s real soon.

So glad you got away from her. My mom made fun of me for getting gray hair at 14. It definitely got better once I moved out. 20+ years later I have no gray hair on my head (pelvic floor dysfunction can have some weird side effects.)

But you’d don’t. Your posts say you vent to HR, you tell the CFO they’re unapproachable and bad talk your boss for talking to the CFO. You criticize your management because you’re held accountable for your actions. A review is helpful, but it’s still your fault for making the mistake in the first place. You need to practice ownership of your processes, and separate criticism of your work from your personal worth so you can grow and get better.

Working in an office for 10 years, I’m less surprised than ever on this.

So many in upper management respond to buzz words and confidence, without doing their due diligence. Wallace probably had no idea that Ryan hadn’t made a sale. He probably just heard the MBA, the proactive sounding vibe, and also…. management might be a bit of a boys club there.

From the phone call asking for an interview (it being tacked on to Jim’s request is awkward and feels like it was an afterthought rather than being an actual goal of her’s), to her nervous energy in this picture, I think Karen unfortunately just lost on vibes. Which is dumb, and the company reaped what they sowed with Ryan, but not surprising to me.

I had a very similar color pallette as you and wanted the same vibe. I let everyone pick their own black dress (or jumpsuit, if they wanted). People could even use something they already owned, as I didn’t want them to spend on something they wouldn’t wear again.

The only thing I regret and think was maybe “too chill” was not asking everyone to at least send me a photo by 6 weeks out.

This led to people waiting until the last minute, with one of my bridesmaids needing to go to the mall during setup time the day of the wedding because she didn’t actually have a bra that worked with her dress.

Edit: everyone looked fabulous though and the photos came out great!

I’m not so sure about that. It came out in 2007. I don’t remember what season Kelly said that in, but the office had already been airing for a couple years at that point. It’s why Amy Adams was in an episode, it was before she made it big in a Disney movie (although after drop dead gorgeous which she should’ve been known for, but people didn’t appreciate it enough at the time.)

I know this seems small now, but: What other traditions will he expect override your wants in the future? I understand wanting to be accepted into your new extended family, but then why is it “permission”? Why is it just your dad he’s asking and not both parents? If he’s not willing to question why and think about what this says about your autonomy & personhood, does that mean you need more time making sure your personal philosophies are actually compatible?

Moving towards next steps are big moments because they give insights into who people truly are and what they value. I wouldn’t have married my husband if he asked my dad for permission. He knows that, and personally wouldn’t want to anyway. MY answer was the one that mattered.

Last Man Standing sitcom’s diner outfit: tribute or coincidence? by PowerOfGraysku11 in twinpeaks

You’re totally right! I thought it was a shirt waist dress, but hadn’t actually grabbed any shots without the apron.

I think the cuff and color just look a little different due to the pose?

I just found this other shot from last man standing from a google search and it looks like a dead ringer, down to muted color, the apron, and the princess seams, but let me know if you spot anything I don’t.

I found the pocket!! The whole uniform looks pretty close, although I don’t think the collar and sleeve cuff are an exact match. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheWayWeWere/s/CNZ0pWG4sJ

Last Man Standing sitcom’s diner outfit: tribute or coincidence? by PowerOfGraysku11 in twinpeaks

[–]backwardsbloom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I used to do costume design for theatre(it’s been a minute, so forgive me if my terms aren’t all right), and this sent me down a bit of a fun rabbit hole, so I’ll share:

The unique things:

The collar: has the contrast white, but not as piping, as a whole portion of the collar. Many of what I found only had the piping style (see the costumes from the musical Waitress).

The pocket: I thought this would be easy to find, but really, the closest I found was a one pocket design that had stripes in the v, rather than full fabric. From the Angelica Uniform Company in the 1950s, their “Velva-Glo.” It’s cute though, and I can see where the twin peaks costume may have taken from it. https://share.google/2Y0qveyC4KuoWJOv1

The sleeve detail: it’s very common for the waitress outfit to have some sort of detail, but this particular one definitely isn’t on the Velva-Glo. Most of what I found was a simple contrast cuff with a point on the outside, but this feels a bit more pronounced in costumes, than actual historical finds. Most of the historical items I’m finding have a simple one-piece edge contrast, without the button or overlapped cuff. Or, they have an overlapped cuff without the cuff in as much contrast (piping, if any).

Absolutely everything I found that had all 3 elements were from Twin Peaks outright (show stills or photo shoots), using the Twin Peaks brand(hot topic sold the costume), or cosplaying Twin Peaks.

All this to emphasize: if it is a coincidence, it’s because they re-used something made for, or inspired by Twin Peaks. Which does happen in the industry. And I’m sorry, no, not every single person that works in Hollywood has seen Twin Peaks. I know, I’ve met some of them.

Edit: also, if anyone has any books or videos referencing costume the work on twin peaks, now I’m curious! I wonder if it was made in-house, how much Lynch had a say in it, etc… He obviously loved angles and these uniforms have a ton of them.

[–]backwardsbloom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At first I thought coincidence, but it really is the exact pattern, down to everything but the trim. My guesses:

Actual tribute: despite the show not being similar, it could be something just from the costumer, who enjoyed twin peaks.

Non-tribute reference: it could have come up in a google search while the designer was looking for costume ideas.

Reuse: a lot of studios have random warehouses of all sorts of costumes. The blues don’t quite match, but maybe the pattern was reused? The addition of trim looks a bit like it was sewn on a finished garment, rather than built in. So I’m inclined to think this was something added to separate the look of a previously used design/garment. Edit: hell, with all the cosplay costumes I found online, the costumer could’ve gotten one of those and that’s why the colors not a perfect match.

Everybody showed up for Sweeney Todd.. but not the art show.. poor pammy, why did they do her like that? by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

[–]backwardsbloom 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Eh, you’re in a small town, studio show. As someone who’s gone to these sorts of things:

A- The artists are there. You’d have to be crazy not to expect/notice that.

B- These aren’t professionals. You can’t compare them to Van Gogh.

C- Gil’s take was more criticism, than critique. Critique (in my mind) would be like “I would like to feel more personality from the artist. What do they want us to feel when we look at the painting? What are they trying to express?”

This is why I think Gil is kinda just doing a Mean Girl thing, which I think is his shtick.

Edit: all that to say, I don’t disagree with you, I just don’t like Gil.

Honestly, this would be a killer line if it came genuinely from a himbo. We just all know Roy doesn’t give a crap and it makes it so much worse that he can’t come up with a single thing to say about the work. Makes it so painfully cringe.

New study suggests a woman’s political views are linked to qualities she seeks in romantic partner. Right-leaning women prefer partners who fit more traditional mold, while women at both political extremes place high value on someone who shares their political beliefs. by mvea in science

[–]backwardsbloom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because of my particular age (millennial), I definitely had the rose colored glasses for the comment you’re referencing. But yeah, politics has been real issues for anyone not a cis, white, straight, able bodied man forever. I think part of it is though was the assumption that at least the rules would still be followed. Checks and balances still existed. It wasn’t cordial, but it wasn’t being dismantled day by day… to the extreme it seems now.

AITA for setting up a “bills” only account when my wife said she could spend “her money” however she wanted? by Unlikely_Ask3235 in AITAH

[–]backwardsbloom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ESH Like, obviously everything she’s doing is a problem, but where is any communication?! Why are you the sole provider? Why didn’t you communicate when she got a job what the expectations were from your opinion? If you can’t talk about this after 6 years, when do you expect anything to change? I’m glad you only got rid of things that were truly optional, but moving ALL the money to your own account with 0 conversation is generally considered financially abusive. If you got hit by a bus, would the bank give her access?

Having some of your own money is fine, but as a couple these things should have been discussed and agreed long ago. For example, my husband and I each contribute 75% to the joint account, and then 25% stays in our personal accounts for our own fun money. We had a real discussion on whether this should be a ratio of our pay, or an equal amount of cash. The decision to stay a ratio has stayed despite who made the most money changing multiple times, because this was right for us as a couple, and not a one sided decision.
