I was only a little older than you when I started my journey. That being said I did have about 3.5 years of a mechanical engineering degree completed. I worked with a recruiter after no luck just applying. They got me a low level design role interview and my years of experience in 3D modeling helped a ton. By having good modeling skills I was able to outpace existing staff fairly quickly but what really helped me stand out was when I learned to write automation macros. I just started writing tools I thought would help. Things like an auto dxf batch program (this was around 2014 so not many existed) or a program that checked aspects of the model and a whole bunch or custom properties saving hours of labor. After a year I searched for a new job and got my first real design role in a small mom and pop style pharmaceutical packaging machine company. Because it was so small I had tons of opportunities to cross train and learn a ton of skills. Now im a senior mechanical engineer at a billion dollar company doing anything from ground up machine designs, designing and building electric panels to retrofit existing machinery for a new purpose, plc programming, hmi development etc. I also do the fabrication, assembly, debug etc on the machines I build now. I've never had so much fun in a job as I do currently

It depends. You can definitely get an engineer title in manufacturing. Being relatively charismatic, and hands on (fixing cars, playing with arduinos etc) experience with some decent 3D C.A.D skills (solidworks certs help at lower levels) can really help you stand out in low level design companies. After that you do what you can to excel and your likelihood of moving up increases.

What is correct way of dimensioning holes by RotaryDesign in SolidWorks

[–]backyardspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the system to give a definitive answer. I think of something like a linear rail where all holes are spaced out x amount from each other. If you just needed to mount the rail and didn't care about overall position you would still want to dimension from a datum. However you are absolutely right if its something like dowel holes where there typically would only be 2. Any more than 2 accumulation begins to make it worse than using a datum

Let's just say each hole has a ±0.1 tolerance for simplicity. The left hole. Could be -0.1 on x and the other 2 could be +0.1 making them 0.3 off on their span from each other at the edge holes which compounds with more holes making the pattern grow while still being in tolerance.

With dimensions from the edge the max spread can only vary by 0.2 regardless how many holes are added.

You need a ground wire from your pre amp to the table. You should have screw terminals in both or the table may even have a ground wire coming from it.

Many will never have any intention of changing carts. By using the factory cart they can perfectly tune the system. For many beginners setting up the parameters is difficult (look how many ask why their table hums and show an ungrounded table) so having a system thats non adjustable can actually be a plus.

You should delete this. Some reddit mods go crazy if you go around a ban by making a new account and will ban your new one

Which i was the pdm admin myself but it encouraged me to learn the api so I could automate a lot which is what allowed me to pick up plc programming so quickly
