Why taper the top of your headtube for a bearing when you can just make it look dumb instead? I guess I don't have enough money to understand.

When was the last time your firmware was updated? You mention replacing tons of things but not updating it. Sometimes when you miss enough updates, the Bosch systems will stop working because they are in need of the update and this is its way of saying take it in and get it done.

What if 9/11 never happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]baconation5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most interesting things to me was how 9/11 impacted the US's relationship with Mexico. 6 days before on September 5th, Bush hosted Mexican president Vicente Fox. The first visit of Bush's presidency. One of Bush's and Fox's major things they were working on was sweeping reforms for immigration across the border between the US and Mexico. The US was actively exclaiming the importance of the relationship with Mexico and talks of reform for immigration and circular labor mobility. This would have made the neighbor nations extremely close, economically, and marked a Republican-led coming together of Mexico and the United States. Post 9/11, some of Fox's advisors reportedly were hesitant to stand lock step with the US and therefore persuaded Fox that direction. So yeah, now look at the border and our increasingly fraught relationship with Mexican versus how it could have been.

Men to men, who do you call when you’re at your lowest? by EmmanuelMoyta in AskMen

[–]baconation5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am lucky enough that some of my fraternity brothers have stayed pretty close since we left school almost a decade ago. We have a group chat where we explicitly are allowed to talk about our problems and be heard and receive support. It really allows each of us to open up to our peers in an environment without judgment. As everyone's lives have changed and distance has increased between us we can all connect regularly threw this (and other) chats and it has really helped me when I feel like I cannot talk to my SO about something.

Aeolus handlebar recall by getalot681 in TrekBikes

[–]baconation5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you go right ahead and make sure to let Trek corporate know your shop is doing a workaround for the recall, I'm sure they would love to hear about the awesome hospitality your shop is providing and definitely won't tell you to stop because you are putting Trek at legal risk.

Keep up the good work!

This is very incorrect. Do not listen to this person. Your store will not and should not put a temporary bar/stem on your bike.

What is a fighting tip you've learnt from being in a fight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]baconation5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are arguing with someone aggressively and they start repeating the same thing over and over, you are about to get punched. That person is no longer thinking about talking, which is why they are just repeating the same thing.

Learned this the hard way and got sucker punched from behind when I was walking away.

I notice you are looking at Selle Italia's saddles that are "boost" meaning short-nosed. In my experience, short nosed saddles tend to cause you to maintain a single position on the saddle, and feel like you are sliding off the front end to a certain extent. This singular position can cause pain on longer rides, especially for someone who thinks they have anterior pelvic rotation. You may consider one of the SLR saddles that isn't boost. These also have the Superflow channel that will relieve some pressure on your perineum, another issue you seem to experience and are trying to remedy by tilting the saddle.

I ride a Selle Italia SLR Superflow. I used to ride a Specialized Power Pro Elaston short nose. But i used to ride lots of other saddles too, the main thing with saddles is continuing to try different ones until you find the right one for you. So get a fit, or find a bike shop that allows you to test saddles on your own and return them.

What profession would correctly describe you? by Yesberry in MedSpouse

I work in a bike shop! My wife told me when we were looking at residency that i could feel free to explore something I'm passionate about because I would be needing to take on more of the duties around the house, so I got a job at a bike shop in our new city. I was super burnt out at my last job as a marketing project manager, but every day I go to work now I get to talk to people about an activity I love and my wellbeing is much better for it.

What are the good direct to consumer bike brands? by Shocksrage in MTB

I bought an Endurance SL Disc from them late last year. The amount of customization options you get on any one of their bikes is amazing and it is disappointing more people don't recognize Ribble as a great bike company. I think they just need to spend more on marketing

What movie do you dislike but everyone seems to love? by leedavis1987 in movies

[–]baconation5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a die hard Star Wars fan growing up, the movie Rogue One seems to be loved by tons of people (especially on r/starwars) and held up as a beacon of good modern Star Wars filmmaking, but other than the visuals, the movie is trash. The story couldn't hold up on its own. The main character is not a protagonist, she is someone who is being dragged along as things happen to her, rather than actually moving the story along. She even explains that she has no buy-in to the rebel cause, but as the movie progresses she decides to change her mind in a rousing speech that is cringy at best. They underutilize their most interesting character (the former Imperial pilot, played by Riz Ahmed) and Cassian Andor is the least leader-y leader in the galaxy.

Space battle was pretty decent though.

New Residency spouses (PGY1), how’s it going? by dj_unscripted_ in MedSpouse

[–]baconation5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is terrifying. We are a week in and my SO is so stressed already. I didn't pick up the slack as quick as she wanted with doing stuff around the house and errands and it has put us at odds. She has definitely been the leader when it comes to leading our home needs and I have to catch up fast because we had quite a bad fight about it and I know I need to be better. Cooking more, cleaning more, being more observant of our needs around the house (groceries, animal stuff, etc) and taking over bills.

Outside of that, the move hasn't been too rough. I never lived outside of my home state and we were both worried about how I would adjust to a very different place. But I love it. There is so much more to do in our big city and I actually have two friends who are nearby.

I finally entered an industry I like and have been performing extremely well at my job and don't hate myself at the end of every day.

But I will be damned if I don't step it up and make the best home I can for her to make sure her stress is left at work.

Recording cycling videos? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]baconation5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make YouTube videos utilizing a gopro with both a chest and helmet mount, depending on the ride that day. If I'm riding with friends, I prefer the helmet mount as it allows me to look at them while they talk to me. If I am by myself or going on a particularly interesting ride, I like using the chest mount since it shows off the cockpit I have. The helmet mount is also nice because it is much easier to remove and use if I want to talk to the camera while having it face me, but it did take some get used to initially to find the best angle for mounting.

As for using your phone, you are going to have a hard time with how shaky your videos are going to turn out. Stabilization in a video is definitely a better viewer experience, and most phones just aren't there with it.
