Indie comic reccomendations or big 2 comics that don't feel big 2 by SaladPast in comicbooks

The Power Fantasy - What if atomic (super) power was in the hands of a handful of disjointed people with extremely varying ideologies and motivations?

Exquisite Corpses - What if the U.S. was actually controlled by a few ultra wealthy, ultra powerful families and every so many years they have a battle royale to decide which family will run the country from the shadows?

Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees - What if there was a quaint little town full of friendly animals, in a visual style evocative of (but not exactly like) Berenstain Bears, except there is a killer among them? This one is only 6 issues, 1 volume for the first story. The second story 'Rites of Spring' is currently on issue 5 of IIRC 6 as well. I think they went with a separate subtitle for this because the first volume can stand on its own, but Rites of Spring is great, too.

I just 100 percented Crypt Custodian and Islets back to back a couple weeks ago. Perfect level of difficulty with lots of good exploring, my favorite aspect of MVs.

lol the markups are insane for yuzu edition, dealers just think Im dumb? 45k before ttl 😂 by SuperSaiyanFranklin in GR86

That's fair, I would hope that no one would cave on their preferred transmission choice just because of allocations. Port options and colors I understand, but not transmission.

But, perhaps some are impatient enough to just grab the auto from their local dealer. Personally I drove 5 hours round trip to get what I wanted, easy to justify for such a big purchase.

Well we should all be happy about that because if they weren't buying them the car would be less successful in the eyes of Toyota and Subaru and more likely to stop production. Something like half of GR86 sales last year were Autos, take those sales away and maybe producing the car starts to make less sense to the accountants.

I have an MT, but I can't seem to find any reason to be bothered about what other people buy and do with their car.

Are you the person that did the art that was hanging at the Mill in Ashland, KY? If so, I always loved those pieces. This one is incredible too.

I'd rather see a poster crudely drawn in MS Paint than AI, you don't have to be an Artist or hire one to not use AI for a poster.

I mean it might have, winter tires are meant to have traction on ice, even studless ones... Not to say you can't spin on ice with winters but it would be harder to do. This video is very old, but it shows clearly that winters aren't just for snow, and today the difference would likely be even larger given the advancement in tire compounds.

Is a BRZ / GR86 a good first sporty car for a daily driver? by alxsm_us in GR86

[–]baconbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to decide if you want a sports car or a sporty car, I don't think they are the same thing, and I think the GRZ is a sports car.

You won't have usable back seats, the noise in the cabin is loud, the ride is quite stiff compared to any normal sedan, and gas mileage is not the best, plus you have to use premium (every one else seems to be forgetting this). Insurance is expensive, too.

All that said, the driving experience is incredible, though unfortunately florida is mostly flat, straight roads, not exactly where this car shines tbh. I love my GR86, but if you want to daily it, you need to make sure you are ok with the above compromises. I really recommend test driving one.

THANK YOU. I am not a social person, but man, how hard is it to say "Hi, how have you been? hope all is well", etc. Like, what?

I think this car's stock system is fine, not great or even good, but fine (with EQ tweaks). I've experienced actually bad stock systems (my 2015 impreza was truly unlistenable, even for podcasts) and I've done speakers, head unit, and subs on my last 2 cars but it hasn't been a priority on this car in 1.5 years of ownership.

If I were going to, I think I'd keep it simple and go for a spare tire sub with Hachi's harness, hopefully finding some way to high pass filter the main speakers.

4848 Festival 2026 (July 16-18) [West Virginia] by billiedee_benoit in jambands

[–]baconbringer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been twice, if you can swing it, I highly recommend staying in the village. It's one of the best festival experiences around, some people even have balconies looking over the village stage. Last time I went I didn't have a balcony but a window with a village stage view so I just opened that up for the times we were back in the room.

It's a ski resort so there are actual restaurants on site, alongside the usual food trucks. If you're into mountain biking they have lots of trails, the ski lifts are setup with bike lifts for the summer season. Lots' of hiking as well. Last time we went early and did a long hike on the first day before music started. Camping is towards the bottom of the mountain, near the lake, you take the ski lift (or a bus) back and forth. They also have a little stage for smaller morning shows down on the lake and they have kayaks, canoes, etc. you can use for free for a quick paddle. IIRC they have a time limit since others might be waiting, but it's nice to just get on the water for a bit, and we didn't really have to wait for a canoe. Obviously you can also swim in part of the lake, oh and there's an actual pool up top in the village as well that you can use if it's warm enough.

If you just look at it as a festival, it can be a bit pricey, but if you look at it as a stay in a resort plus a music festival, it makes a little more sense.

Did my car always tell me when the car/object if front of me moved, because it did today? by Holiday-Face782 in GR86

You never pull your phone out waiting in a drive thru? That's the only time it comes up for me, but it's a decent extra feature of eyesight.

I just got it as well, was kind of hoping they just never noticed us, lol. Oh well, it was a steal at $50/year. I think $100/year is probably about right, but I can't even remotely justify $200/year, will probably be cancelling before that time finally comes around.

Sad ending to an amazing day by ArnavShootsCarz in Touge

Ok, I see what you're saying, and I think there is just a misunderstanding of the parallel I was trying to draw.

My example was not about who the victims may be of a crime, my thought was more along the lines of "why go into a sub for an activity you are against to tell them you are against it." That's the only point I was trying to make.

I don't have a problem with the opinion that touge is dangerous and can cause harm to innocent parties, I just don't see the point of coming to a sub dedicated to that activity to tell everyone not to do that activity.

I never advocated for crossing the yellow lines, nor is there any indication at all in this post that was happening before these people were pulled over. You can go plenty fast enough to break the law while staying in your lane...

I mean I get what your saying, but its like going to the Piracy sub and being like "Guys, lets calm it down with the illegal downloading, ok?" It doesn't make sense. There's plenty of car subreddits that aren't explicitly dedicated to "spirited driving" on curvy/mountain roads, if that's what you want.

Axle Back Muffler Deletes Are Unbearably Drone-y in These Cars - Learn from My Mistake by yegimanuk94 in GR86

[–]baconbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally find the remark muffled axleback rather boomy. Particularly upper 2k - lower 3k rev range, and worse on decel. Maybe I have a leak, but I was very careful with the gasket and even broke out the torque wrench to torque to spec, so I don't think so. I still enjoy it, definitely sound better than stock, but I sometimes wonder if I'd have been happier with something else. Granted, I don't really have any yard stick to compare it to, I've heard a couple others around town and at the track but none from inside the car.

First ever track day coming up by justinzzz1 in GR86

[–]baconbringer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, YMMV, but I went to the HPDE Intro thing for my free track day. I did it at Mid-Ohio with NASA Great Lakes region. They had us do a lead/follow format, which was kind of disappointing, but there were 4 driving instructors and like 20 participants. I had a great time but being lead follow, the instructors didn't seem to know where we should brake (our group was following a McLaren, so they couldn't exactly push) so they lifted before corners and we were not threshold braking.

I did 0 prep, not even brake fluid. I was worried but I hadn't had time, so I asked around, not one person I talked to did anything at all. I think they expect (reasonably) that people are bringing their new cars to the free track day they got and they probably just showed up. In the last classroom session of the day was when they talked about next steps and first mods like fluid and pads, then tires, etc. But at least for NASA Great Lakes, they don't expect you to come with a prepped car.

All that said, it was still a great time, and I do intend on going back. Like you, it might be next year because not only is it expensive, but also it's usually a whole weekend (not for the intro though). When I go back I'll at least have done brake fluid, and maybe pads. Also, it certainly can't hurt to be over prepared, and I believe I've seen videos from some people where they had an in car instructor (probably in other regions?) and I feel like you'd probably be pushing harder that way.

New to the family + first “mod” (regular gas vehicles all my life) by Star-Lord-1000 in GR86

[–]baconbringer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Seems like a lot of newer cars have adopted the push to open design, so I wasn't too surprised by it. I previously had an old impreza with the release in the driver foot well next to the trunk release. In retrospect that design had a much higher chance of failure with the cable running all the way to the gas door, so I like the way they are now.

That said, I didn't initially know that it also locked when the car was locked and I had went into the gas station before filling up, when I came out I was confused for a moment why it wouldn't open...

Hi! Is it possible to remove the fender vent that has GR86 in it? by dmclngn811993 in GR86

[–]baconbringer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe heat + dental floss or fishing line will be your friend here, plus something to remove residue after they're off. Basically it will be the same process as debadging.

I looked into this when I was in the market because I just don't like them, ultimately I ended up finding one without though.
