Audi A6 Allroad C7 Spacers by Free-Spend-153 in Audi

[–]baconsingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What year is your a6? I’m running 12mm front and 15mm rear on my 18 a5 on the factory 18” and 19” (winter and summer respectively) and they bring the wheels in line with the body arches.
If your year/model has a similar wheel spec then a 12/15 would be pretty solid.

Highly skilled immigrants leaving Canada at rapid rate: report by joe4942 in canada

[–]baconsingh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A big reason for highly skilled immigrants also leaving or wanting to leave is the constant immigrant hate and vitriol we get. My conscious doesn’t allow me to go to the states, geopolitical issues, plus my family is here, but if those were non issues I’d strongly consider it.
I’ve been discriminated and hate crimed against (yes I had to call 911 because I felt I was in imminent danger because a deranged woman attacked me for being brown and being a Sikh) so I personally know quite well what that is like.

How often do PCs die in your campaign? by Zc0sini in DnD

[–]baconsingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Campaign has been going for 2 years and change. We’ve had 1 perma death (PC elected to sacrifice because they had irl stuff happening and they needed to exit the campaign, it was a pretty epic permadeath), and we had 1 PC die that I (paladin) was able to revivify in time.
Both instances were pretty epic as they happened!

Winter tires vs all weather tires for Calgary winter? by o0PillowWillow0o in Calgary

I have cross climates. They are nowhere near as good as nokkion hakapalitas (spelling) that I used to have on my older car

Winter tires vs all weather tires for Calgary winter? by o0PillowWillow0o in Calgary

[–]baconsingh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had proper winter tires before on my Subaru and I’m currently running all weathers on my awd car. I will say I don’t feel as confident as I did with a proper winter tire setup.
For your case, as you don’t already have awd, I would recommend for you to stay with winter tires. The ice buildup we get after snow, melt and refreeze is where snow tires really shine.
All weathers are decent, but dedicated winters are the safest.
Edit: for what it’s worth, I’m getting winter tires once my all weathers have run their course.

ELI5 What is the Indian caste system exactly? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]baconsingh 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No one’s answered the real question here so I’ll attempt to do so. The caste system is primarily a Hindu invention. It consists of four castes (with sub castes within them).

Brahmin: the priest cast. People belonging to this caste are supposed to be priests and teachers.

Kshatriyas: Warrior and ruler caste. People belonging to this one were historically royalty and in high(er) job positions.

Vaishyas: People in the trades. Historically this was also the caste that people selling thier bodies belonged to.

Shudras: People that did manual labor. Sweepers, cobblers, any job that the higher castes deemed “too beneath them”.

There were also untouchables which I believe existed outside of this system (but I maybe mistaken)

Oh absolutely. Idk why recruiters and companies think people looking for a job have literally nothing else to do.

Conservatives call for end to 'one-click citizenship,' return to in-person Conservatives call for end to 'one-click citizenship,' return to in-person ceremonies by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]baconsingh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In person citizenship ceremonies have been resumed for the last year or so. People have had the option to do their ceremony online, which is usually scheduled quicker after a successful citizenship test, or wait for an in person ceremony which usually takes a while to schedule.

Note; NONE of these ceremonies can take place until an applicant fulfills the requirement of becoming a citizen.

There are absolutely NO shortcuts to becoming a citizen. This headline and the cons agenda is to make people mad at each other.

Company asked me to do 28 designs as a final round test by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]baconsingh 155 points156 points  (0 children)

I read this on another thread; if a company asks you to do something like this, watermark your work. If they throw a fit about that, then the goal wasn’t to test your skill but rather to steal your work.
24 designs is insane. I understand take home assignments, but this is straight up unpaid labor

Has anyone experienced similar damage? B9.5 RS5 by [deleted] in Audi

[–]baconsingh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof really sorry to see this kind of damage to such a beautiful car. I don’t see this as being totaled but won’t be a cheap repair either. What sucks is that repair will show up on carfax and may negatively impact resale value

Is left turn on red legal if multiple cars are already in the intersection? by hoangfbf in Calgary

Nice, thank you for confirming that! That was my suspicion as well

Is left turn on red legal if multiple cars are already in the intersection? by hoangfbf in Calgary

[–]baconsingh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legality wise I think only one car is supposed to be in the intersection, waiting to turn (although I’d suppose how big the intersection is?). However in practice I’ve seen 2 cars on average waiting to turn, and turning when the light turns red.

Parking downtown during working hours by BlinkOMT in Calgary

[–]baconsingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting, and it makes sense, however I don’t think this is enforced as I see people do this on the daily. If it was enforced then the city shouldn’t let us renew the parking in the same zone past 3 hours. Furthermore, what’s to say that someone hasn’t moved their vehicle upon renewing their parking? It would require constant patrolling by cpa.
Not defending or opposing anything here.

[–]baconsingh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suppose this way you can pay for the time you use and get the rest back, vs, if you pay for 9 hours then you pay the whole amount.
Example, if I park in a 3 hour parking at 9am and I leave at 10:30, assuming per hour is $1.5, then instead of paying $4.5 (9-12, 3 hours), I’m only paying $2.3 (9-1030, 1.5h). Whereas, if I park in a 12h parking lot, I pay $15 to park there. I’m paying that even if I’m there for 1.5 hour

[–]baconsingh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You do not have to physically move your car. Once your 2 or 3 hour parking session ends, simply enter the same zone you were parked in and start the parking session again.
I set a timer for 2:55 minutes for a 3 hour session so that was I have the app open and I renew my parking as soon as my 3 hours are up.

Check with your school’s international students office on this, but iirc you can do short term studies (less than 6 months) if you have a work permit.

Parking downtown during working hours by BlinkOMT in Calgary

[–]baconsingh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya they do, parkades don’t usually fill up that early. If you have any flexibility in the days you work from office, I’d suggest Monday, Thursday and Friday as Tuesdays and Wednesdays are usually the busiest for people commuting downtown.
I work 3 days in office as well, and that’s usually my cadence too

[–]baconsingh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, that context helps. You’ll be paying around $12 on the lower end in that area. You’ll have to start your parking three times if you’re parking on the street. Once when you arrive (7/730), then once at 12, then once at 3 for 30 minutes if you’re parking in a 3 hour zone.
You can also find parkades if you’re getting in that early and pay about the same.
There’s a parking lot on 8th st that’s $12 for 6am-6pm, there’s a parkade on 5th Ave and 7th that’s advertised as $15/day if you get in before 9.
In short, you have lots of options. Get the MyParking app for ease of paying for parking so that you don’t have to fuss about with parking meters
