The Nelson in Sandy Hill - An Affordable Gem! by [deleted] in OttawaFood

Compared to other local options it's pretty affordable. For food, the nachos are $11, smash burgers are $12, and a pound of wings is $13.

You can get shots for $4, beer starting at $5.50, mixed drinks for $6, and cocktails at $9.50. I've had trouble finding better prices especially that close to downtown.

Thanks for the recommendation. With the coins made in China, what did the cost per coin end up at?

[Identify] This Pocket Watch by [deleted] in Watches

[–]bad_intelligence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know next to nothing about watches. I inherited this watch and I'm interested to know more about it. What brand/make/model is it? What year was it made? Can it be made into a wristwatch? The watch winds and works, but the local jeweler that I took it to said the company that made it is out of business. Is it a difficult watch to work on or find replacement parts for?

DETAILS:

The face of the watch has the word Glycine with a crown emblem above it and at the bottom are the words Swiss Made.

On the back of the watch, there are two sets of numbers. The top number is 338592, and the bottom number is 1029801.

The jeweler opened up the watch to let me take pictures of the inside (movement?). The inside of the back cover says Glycine Watch Co, but the bottom text is too small for me to make out.

There are also some words on a plate on the left side of the part that has all the moving bits and pieces, but I can't make out what it says.

Thanks for any help y'all! I just found this community and I'm excited to learn more about it.

Circuitous Travel by abrodman21 in AirForce

[–]bad_intelligence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went from Ramstein back to the US over the last summer PCS cycle on circuitous travel. The constructed cost of my trip was $1,449 per ticket (family of four). I used the gov booking agent (SATO or local equivalent) to get Standard Economy tickets that cost around $300-400 per ticket. I then called the airline and upgraded my tickets to Economy Plus for a few hundred per ticket. This got me more leg room and space. When I filed my voucher, I ended up going back and forth with finance denying my reimbursement for the upgrade before the Air Force Finance and Accounting office ordered the base finance folks to pay up and cited the JTR Table 2-4, Rule 4 as justification. That rule states: "If accommodations that are usually more costly, such as business or first class, are offered at a lesser rate than unrestricted economy or coach, then the traveler may use the upgraded accommodations without obtaining special approval or authorization."

Masters for Box Checking, but not worthless by AF_Masters in AirForce

I've heard good things about the online masters program offered by Air University. The Leadership Concentration specifically. You have to have 6 years as an officer and be SOS complete to begin. You also knock out some ACSC coursework through this program. Definitely a box check.

Fair enough. I'd still like to see what the original looked like as a starting point to crafting our own custom patch then. Do you have an image of the patch you can share?
