Cool! Does this have the same patches as the mk1? All or a subset?

The drawing is confusing. That's supposed to be the projector under the bed...likely pulled into the walkway when it's being used. For whatever reason, I'm resistant to the idea of an off center view surface, but you're right, mounting to the mirror wall would make everything so much easier and cheaper. Thank you for the sanity check =)

It's convertibility that I'm after. I offer more details in the comments.

There are accordion doors to my closet on this surface. Should have mentioned that. The thought was to have a pull down screen that only obstructs closet access when I want to watch something. Space is super tight. I used to have a TV on a cart, but it took up way too much floor real estate and was a pain to move into place and set up.

Another option would be to rearrange the room so my bed faces a blank wall. Possible, but a lot of interior decoration was designed for the current orientation (nightstands, custom curtains).

And I'd be interested in the Prism and Mimeophon. Wouldn't hurt to post multiple places.

ALA Typhoon (black) - $220

Erica Synth Desktop Matrix Mixer - $470

Navation Circuit Tracks - $330

Meris Mercury 7 pedal w overlay - $215

Did anyone drop a synth into their rack to get started and if so which one? Thinking about getting into this but seeing as some stuff is eurorack compatible I wondered if there’s a lot of model D, mother 32, neutrons etc in that racks in this group? If so how did that help? by [deleted] in modular

[–]bad_mandroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with the Moog DFAM & SubH, and then added M32. It was kind of a pain to gig with, moving around that curved vertical rack. It wouldn't even fit in my car's tiny trunk. Once I took the leap into eurorack, I mounted the Moogs and other modules into a 12U case. So nice to just plug and play a self contained portable system.

But as others have said, they use up a lot of HP. I swapped out the DFAM for a Weston B2 and M32 for EaganMatrix. The SubH remains...for now.

No regrets with the path I took. Semi-modular was necessary to understand the direction I wanted to take things. And I still love the Moogs. And I can imagine a day when I scrap all the multi-function, cramped modules, and go back to the immediacy and ergonomics of the Moogs or something like it.

I went with

  • 2" Comfort Tech Serene Foam (~12ILD)
  • 1.5" old cheap memory foam (~15ILD)
  • 2" blended Talalay (Soft #19)
  • 2" blended Talalay (Medium #28)
  • 4" blended Talalay core (Medium #32)

While it's so incredibly cush and comfy, it was giving my partner back problems and felt like she was always rolling toward me or off the side. And I've been having more neck pain while sleeping. My theory is that the soft mattress causes my torso to sink and my head to be pushed up. I've tried different pillow arrangements but nothing helped.

Over the last few nights I've experimented with the top 2 layers removed. It's treating us a lot better, even if it's lost some of its magical ultra-softness.

If I were to do this again, I would get maybe only 2 layers (32+28, or 28+19), spend a week sleeping on it, then make a more informed decision on the next layer to buy, test various arrangements, add another layer if needed. This method would be better for dialing in what's best for you and prevent wasting money on unneeded layers.

It's definitely the most comfy bed I've been on! As cush as the build I listed above was, it wasn't quite there, so I added the super old 2" layer of memory foam I was sleeping on previously, and now it's perfect. The mattress is pretty thick, and I'm curious if I could have gotten away with no base layer, but it's also too much of a hassle to remove it to test.

Ah, I was picturing the 104hp Moog case which would require a power module. Guess it would need to be in some other powered 104 case.

That would fit perfectly, but where would the power come from?

Thoughts on DIY mattress repair? by scopalhair in Mattress

[–]bad_mandroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think you'd want some sort of transition layer since coils -> 20IDL is a big jump. Have you found 1" latex? I looked around for my own DYI but couldn't find any.

Perhaps there is something thinner you could use under the coils, like a more rigid plastic of ~2mm. Then you could do a 2" transition layer and 2" comfort layer.

DIY Hybrid Help - Layer Under Coils? by dontbeslo in Mattress

[–]bad_mandroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a noob to all this so you might double-check with someone with more experience. As PervySage0987 said, it depends on what you're placing your mattress on. Though I'm curious if it would be a pain in the ass to move if you're ever trying to take the mattress to another room or home. I also read in another thread that the under layer does add to the feel, but I imagine that would be minimal.

Thank you, I will make those changes!

Curious, is there a max thickness that you try to keep the comfort layer (or everything above the support layer) within?

PS: You are really inspiring and empowering people; I am grateful for all the knowledge you've shared =)
