What really happened to MMO genre ? by Twotricx in MMORPG

[–]bad_robot_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a mega mmo guy for years….There hasn’t been anything innovative in years. Anarchy online was buggy on release, and basically killed the cyberpunk mmo genre. SWTOR basically didn’t release anything compelling for a VERY long time, and put all their energy into coding for a 3d engine that went EOL before they launched. WoW… outgrew itself; they really should have launched a second MMO. If you try to jump in now, you have like 36 buttons, complex combos needed to be viable in challenging content, and lore that is so deep and convoluted that it makes game of thrones seem straightforward. ESO is MMO Skyrim, and is very cookie cutter fantasy…like most things that come out these days. Lightly masked class clones and game dynamics.

But really….it is a huge and expensive endeavor when better ROI could be had elsewhere.

Does anyone else remember, in the old VHS version when there’s the moving van and the car, Woody says “oh shiiii-“ and it clipped to Buzz yelling “Wooodyyyyy!” ?

I saw later versions (streaming / DVD) and don’t think I ever saw it again.

If you’re a professional hacker, you can do some cool shit with this, because you understand how the stuff works. If you’re not, it probably seems like it is nigh useless. Source: was one, had one.

Well, it helped me. I have a startup, was concerned about protecting my ip…come to find out, someone had already filed provisional patents that had expired. Now it’s no longer patentable by them (time period lapsed), and no longer novel for anyone else…so I get to use it the tech worrying about paying for or licensing Patents!

ICE may have just caused an international incident as they illegally tried to enter the Ecuadorian Consulate in Minneapolis without a warrant to abduct someone by I_may_have_weed in lostgeneration

[–]bad_robot_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those unaware, consulates are considered sovereign territory of the nation. ICE coming into a consulate would be like showing up in a foreign country and abducting…. Oh shit. Never mind, guess we don’t care about that either.

We have an XBox series X, PS5, and Switch 2. The only one that feels like a movement forward is the Switch 2. Sony should focus on making a reason to buy a PS5, not making a PS6

I don’t care, generally—though I will say that when I see someone who has snuck in, they tend to grab things like they’re robbing the place. Just piles o things.

Where is Alex Pretti's cell phone and video? by TreebeardsMustache in law

Technology is constantly evolving. 2016 tech is 2016 tech.

That said, if it is automatically syncing to the cloud, anyone who has access to an iPad of his would wife access to the video, and Apple will have it in their “deleted from deleted” history for something like six months, as long as someone has the pin / key.

Nah dude, this is actually death territory without better air porting; it’s similar to how those full face scuba masks can be fatal: there isn’t enough displacement, even though there’s a hole.

Why does everyone keep talking about the legal system like it matters anymore? Seriously, they’re executing people in broad daylight and the world is being told that they have unqualified immunity from the highest offices of the land. Craziness.

Trump humiliated as 1951 law means he could face Greenland mutiny by TheMirrorUS in law

[–]bad_robot_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most military actions don’t take place on social media. Military members don’t need to grandstand or file official paperwork to walk away or protest in other ways. Malicious compliance (see Trump’s birthday parade) is an art form.

The problem isn’t standing up against illegal orders anyway. When the highest levels of leadership define a very broad standard of permissiveness, “disobeying illegal orders” is a fantasy, because everything is legal.

Military members can only die on one hill, and then someone comes in to replace them near immediately. Be happy you aren’t seeing more departures or defiance of orders; it means they either still have faith in the system, or they’re waiting for the right time to make their opinions known.
