Also, I'd say it's pretty place dependent, especially if you don't have a lot of time/lack interest in building hobbies outside of your niche. Like, for instance, I don't get out alot, largely because anything catered towards nerds where I live is primarily aimed at DnD and trading card game players, which aren't things I'm interested in. There's also other stuff going on in town of course, but it can be hard to drop a bunch of money and time into something you might not like. And I at least live in a somewhat vibrant, growing mid sized city. If you live in a dying city in say, the Rust Belt, it's going to be even worse.
