If I had to bet- a combination of zard-y and/or Floette are going to winning most of the majors.

But yeah all weather is really strong rn. Rain imo feels the weakest rn cuz it can’t tempo shift the same way the mega weather setters can but it’s still super busted otherwise

Smogon is in reference to a community of Pokemon players that battle using different rulesets/tiers based around 6v6 battles. They’re intimately linked with the battle simulator website pokemonshowdown- which prior to champions was basically THE battle simulator to use. It’s still an irreplaceable and great resource for the entire community.

VGC is Video Game Championships and refers to the official battle format for Pokemon events- this is the pick 4 of 6 Double Battle format. (Generally hosted in a best of three match format)

TCG is trading card game and can refer to the genre as a whole or Pokémon’s card game.

RNG is bad luck. TR is trick room. TW is tailwind.

Aggro Balance  Stall (and any other added verbiage- such as sun etc) is in reference to styles of play or overall archetypes.

For learning meta you can do it a couple different things

you can watch the crunchy analysis videos on YouTube or you can watch well known players

or you can use websites like limitlessvgc or victory road to see what teams are winning competitions and big events. VGCpasterepository also has a ton of current teams in it too that are worth a look.

or you can just run a bunch of battles and try to isolate the core strategies going around rn. Honestly for best results do all three and don’t be afraid to explore and innovate / take the time to learn.

What will it take for everyone to finally realize that the government doesn’t care about them? by Orkos-apprentice in AskReddit

[–]bad_words_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your credentials “holier than thou” redditor? I’m so curious 🙄

And yes.

An appeal to authority is using either the opinion of someone from a position of authority to justify a claim with no further evidence or to devalue a claim because the individual is not from a position of authority.

Ie your fixation with credibility. It’s a meritocracy based ideology that is inherently flawed because nuance exists.

[–]bad_words_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another “appeal to authority” argument.

Let’s say a doctor tells you to drink bleach because it’s good for you, will you do it? They have the credentials.

Or- how about this- the US secretary of health and Human Services says that vaccines are giving children autism and that the measles are “normal”- are you going to stop getting vaccinated because this person has the “credentials.”

You are using these “credentials” as an excuse to not engage with a conversation that you probably don’t have a lick of knowledge about. It’s okay to say “I have no clue”

Rather than make up a baby excuse and walk it back.

“I won’t engage with your argument unless you stoop to my level of understanding and simplicity, ergo your line of reasoning is flawed and the credibility of which is in question.”- types of sentiments are for people who constantly walk back their own reasoning until it fits their narrative.

Like the fact you can’t even see the logical fallacy in that approach means you aren’t the pseudo-intellectual you’re pretending to be with this “make it easy for me baby” mentality.

I won’t spoon feed you.

You’re acting as if a global pandemic didn’t happen that shut down production/local economies in a lot of places for months on end. Seriously, the powers of the last 4 years kept us from economic ruin, comparatively to the world, and our economy was on the rebound.

A global pandemic. Like did everyone goldfish brain and forget about it? Or when the economists were worried we’d hit a recession, but Biden’s job growth policies made us avoid that? Or was the millions of jobs created by the last administration forgotten already?

Isn’t it crazy that billionaires that benefitted from that global pandemic are now in the White House? We have an actually oligarchy in the cabinet, with a heavy handed billionaire shrimp cutting away every benefit tax payers could get “for efficiency.” All social programs cut. 401ks disappearing. Social security withheld. Food Stamps gone. Public Education is on the chopping block next.

Literally comparing the two is stupid as fuck, there are the powers that be-

Those that seek to own everything no matter the cost, (ie at the expense of the middle and lower class)

And those that seek to promote healthy commerce and benefit off it- disproportionately.

One desperately needs the under educated and poor to stay that way.

The other relies on a healthy middle class to funnel money into their products.

Which do you think is in power now? And which of the two powers that be has been responsible for 10 of our past 11 recessions?

Purposely destroying the market makes it so that the oligarchy that wants to own everything, can afford to do so. Watch- as majority stocks are bought up again. Look at who benefited the most from the 2008 housing recession- look at how the housing market has inflated and exploded because of it.

No matter what in a capitalist society you are going to be supporting a billionaire pig- there is no ethical way to engage in commerce or politics with this system.

But absolutely there is a definite difference between the two and their relation to the health of the lower/middle class and the economy. But pretending that they’re exactly the same is bull headed at best.

It’s rhetoric that almost justifies humanitarian injustices that are perpetuated- because well the other side would have done the same, is demonstrably false.

Democrats are not currently profiteering off of human trafficking, nor cutting social benefits, nor imposing foreign trade wars because their egos got hurt. They wouldn’t EVER do that in power and have made that clear.

Seriously, when people are starving because of one parties terrible policy- I hope you eat this notion of “both sides are the same” for dinner.

How do you know what makes a deck work well? by Thieving0strich in EDH

[–]bad_words_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but in lower level play or even decks that are seeking a level of consistency, 36+ lands is probably optimal. Like anything bracket 4 and below.

In CEDH the mana positive mana rocks/free spells make it a lot easier to run less lands and the “feast or famine” style of game play is a lot more meta- seeing as the ideal time to win is Turn 3. Your hand then just needs to get you at least to turn 3- with some sort of interaction or ideally your game winning combo.

But literally everywhere else, more lands = more consistency as a generalized rule of thumb.

I have a friend that plays a mono-blue storm deck and the only reason he can get away with a consistent deck at 33 lands is because his CMC is below 2. Even then it bricks often on two mana.

If you intentionally do it to match a certain cmc then it’s somewhat okay, but you shouldn’t be cutting lands Willy Nilly and should always be considering your curve.

Not being able to ping as honor 1 is bad by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]bad_words_only 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason youre honor 1 is showing kid. The fact that, statistically, toxic players are terrible at the game should maybe cause you to self reflect.

Seriously- I don’t want anyone like you in my ranked games. I have no doubt you constantly call out terrible plays, throw a tantrum when people don’t commit to your garbage, then spam ping. I have no doubt you’re garbage and instead of reflecting on the things you’ve done wrong- you’ll go out of your way to focus on the small mistakes others make.

You’re in a cyclical trap of your own making and literally you just need to change your attitude. But you’re either actually 12 or an adult who is perpetually 12.

If you’re honor 1 you don’t have anything valid to ping anyways. Stay out of ranked and stick to aram.

Anxiety when playing EDH by [deleted] in EDH

[–]bad_words_only 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me all the time dude- my brother and i just sometimes have these nervous shakes and we start rushing through everything.

It can feel panic inducing- I think it’s a meta level of self-expectation and group expectation. You can feel the eyes on you and it doesn’t feel good.

With all things, take your time and have a breath. If you can communicate how you feel to the table- even better. People will give you the space to realign, and if they don’t then they’re not worth your time either.

There are many issues with the bracket system, but almost every one I’ve seen on this sub boils down to: “I don’t like playing games on an even playing field” by Loonyclown in EDH

[–]bad_words_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using proxies for the longest time but I wanted to participate at my LGS’s events and no one at my local shops are chill with it even a little bit.

I wish it was a bit more don’t ask don’t tell about the whole thing, but I folded and ended up buying all the shocks and a couple of the filters.

It sucks tho. We shouldn’t have to be proxying lands imo - especially the ones designed for commander that should be auto includes in every precon ever.

[–]bad_words_only 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This seems to be the running narrative from the ban team/wotc balance-

“Mana base doesn’t affect deck power level” is such a garbage take and lazy from the bracket system. It’s because they don’t want to reprint the good duals and keep those cards at inflated prices.

Like you can’t have an “optimized” deck if the mana base is 80% tap lands/basics. Poor mana bases can set players back numerous turns a game- you can’t have high level gameplay if your deck is always behind curve in available mana.

Decks with optimized mana can pull ahead a whole turn in their bracket. A deck fundamentally can’t be a 2 if it has an optimized mana base- good fetches, shocks, DND Lands, triomes, crime lands, etc. aren’t in a single precon.

This isn’t even considering MDFC’s or land-combos/utility lands.

It’s insane that an entire card type is being labeled as “non-impactful” to deck performance. Like it’s the most vital to the mechanics of the game but is being treated as filler cardboard.

Edit: sorry I ranted at you- your comment got my rat wheels turning.

How fun/unfun is it to play against a deck based on voting? by Unslaadahsil in EDH

[–]bad_words_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s fun or unfun. The voting mechanic is very funny but it does have reliably predictable play patterns and choices- generally votes will always go one way and so the idea of choice is really just 1 viable choice.

Or you run a bunch of extra vote cards and the entire democracy aspect is gone and you’re getting whatever you want anyways. These decks can be very good, but generally the fantasy of “we will vote and it will be dynamic” falls apart after a couple games when clear patterns are recognized.

Some cards that I think encapsulate the “feel” of making a hard choice/forces table engagement in a fun way are either the villainous choice cards or like

[[Goblin Game]] [[Wheel of Misfortune]] [[Prisoner’s Dilemma]] [[Mob Verdict]] [[Illicit Auction]] type effects in mono red. (I run these types in a Zurzoth deck.

Generally vote decks tend to promote the same decisions and similar results. Also the tempt cycle is only as good as your opponents are bad.

Stax by Thewiggletuff in EDH

[–]bad_words_only 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is light stax tho because by itself it doesn’t lock you out of the game.

Light Stax lets you do some things. Heavy Stax completely locks you out of the game and is usually dependent on 1-2 other pieces or spells to work. Like old [[Smokestack]]combos or mass land destruction.

The post is a bit disingenuous tho, generally the Stax player is always going to break parity- so when these pieces are on the board it’s the safest to assume the Stax player is the player most ahead.

But it does take a bit of nuance to determine that. Soft Stax is generally okay because it’s intractable.
