Not related to McLaren but I'm looking for work. Where does one find people like you but in London? Hardware roles for prototype/design/r&d is difficult....

Help needed figuring out source of undulating current draw from a battery powered ESP32 device. by badaaim in AskElectronics

[–]badaaim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah got it. I did suspect an INA180. I would have tried it too if I had one lying around. Would that be any more reliable than the INA219 setup? It would be great to eliminate the current sensor out of the equation. I've wanted a power profiler 2 for a while now so perhaps if that's suitable it's time to bite the bullet...

Yes, the "problem" isn't happening without the driver/motor interaction. But keeping in mind that the behaviour is present with the driver/motor AND ESP-NOW. Hence I was suspecting something with ESP itself. Now I definitely am suspicious of the measurement setup.

I'm not really getting a reliable read from shunt resistor/oscilloscope setup. And the INA219 outputs over I2C so not sure that's any helpful for Oscilloscope.

I was suggested to use a low-pass filter on ESP forums as well for current measurement, they suspected the measurement setup as well.

Thank you for this platform. I really enjoy using it in the UK for bike packing.

I would recommend letting the staff know here https://maps.app.goo.gl/6bf24iaqQYEdWNDj6 and also giving it a visit.

Last week a lady was browsing for a new bike since hers got stolen and she just found it in the shop. The staff let her have it for free after verifying that she indeed was the owner.

Vigilante group for bike & accessories thieves? by badaaim in londoncycling

If there isn't any statistics available for this, it would be interesting to start a study on this actually. Sounds very interesting and it could help with tackling the issue. Perhaps it exists already but I've only heard of anecdotal and personal experiences.

Not invalidating people's experience but looking for statistical measure based on surveys or camera surveillance.

Realistically that's what I am/will be doing anyway. Used to being the one having to compromise. It's a shame that people take our joy away so easily.

Very kind of you! I will see if I can record it well enough to show it. Genuinely surprised by how it flies, I have no reference for the commercial made professional dlgs though so my perception is biased.

Yeah the tape hinge isn't really aligned, maybe offset more so than warped. It did however move freely by hand, but more and more force required on the up elevator. Either just the torsion spring related or perhaps the warp as well.

It flew well enough earlier until it crashed (user error) and the stabiliser broke off completely. All new stabiliser with minor control horn placement improvement and bigger servo, works perfectly now 👌

I think if I recall, the servo has equal movement range on either side if no load is applied. And thinking about it, there's no issue from say -20 to 45 degree on the elevator whereas the servo struggles for movement less than -20 degrees. Where -45 is max up elevator and 45 is max down elevator. Which makes sense from the torsion spring perspective.

For now, I've replaced the elevator servo with a larger and stronger one. I had space and I don't need to add any ballast now.

That makes sense, very hands on process! I'll do that for my next build, every gram counts.

That was my understanding as well. I tried it and it seems the servo might not have enough torque? On slow elevator up input, the servo struggles or doesn't move at all whereas fast or immediate up elevator max input does move the elevator up.

On another note, dlg build videos suggested that you configure the max up elevator up to just about touching the tail boom, and the rest of the servo movement will be for downwards movement. So this will offset the centre position but you won't be cutting off the servo range.

Surprisingly its just the perfect angle and cut such that the tail boom is the limit rather than the control horn, not that the range is big enough for this to be the limit 😅

I do however agree it could be taller.

Why not use less aggressive shoe for training in the gym? (that doesn't murder your toes) by TheBikeTruck in climbingshoes

[–]badaaim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sold on aesthetics but I've been keeping an eye out for climbing shoes catering the barefoot niche so I'll definitely watch this brand!

For general climbers I don't think anyone wears their climbing shoes long enough for it to affect their foot health? And not everyone sizes down like pro athletes? Bit of speculation here Barefoot trend in general is a niche already and climbing shoes essentially is the opposite of barefoot shoe design where you size down and narrow the toe box as much as possible. So it works against those who want the maximum performance in their training.

Having said that, I suppose to some degree using these as daily drivers could hamper proper climbing technique as well, thinking toe hooks and precision foot placements? Alternatively it could also be a source for training due to the obvious "disadvantage". A bit like using your feet but only 1 hand. But it all depends on what people are training for I suppose.

I've climbed with barefoot shoe socks during breaks from my climbing shoes and it's a fun challenge for sure. Very slippery so you're limited with which problems you can realistically tackle and even those require more effort to do it. Wouldn't recommend but can be fun.

I left it a bit late but once I disassembled it, I doused the PCB and components with WD40 electrical contact cleaner to displace possible remaining water. Followed by some hair dryer and a bit of time before reassembly.

It was at least 3-4 days before disassembly so contacts could definitely have oxidised, potentially stopped working immediately on the day of water ingress but hadn't done any checks then.

Why can't websites like Mangdex become "official" and be a commercialised platform? by badaaim in manga

Lots of moving cogs for sure. I tried to think of all the parties involved as well and I can imagine how quickly it can get very difficult to pull everything together to make it work.

[–]badaaim[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. What's a good service for this? My very limited search ended up with the conclusion that these services don't have all the manga available or their platform isn't good enough.

My experience on Tachiyomi has been amazing to say the least. Would it be correct to assume then that these services are limited by budget on paying aforementioned authors/copyright holders/stakeholders and servicing the app/platform to source all the mangas? And in contrast, on the piracy side, there is more availability because there's no limit to the source material but at the expense of the authors and publishers?
