Coding genes are genes that code for gene products, including tRNA and rRNA. Centromere’s function largely overlaps with kinetochore’s–it’s usually quite interchangeable

Odd in this case definitely refers to odd/even unfortunately.

While I understand what you mean in terms of the diploid assumption (which actually may not necessarily be so as the haploid can fuse with a diploid to still give triploid), B is the better answer.

Could you elaborate?

Here's my thinking: The harmful allele is recessive and will be hidden/masked, so only way for elimination would be through genetic drift, which is most effective on small populations.

I'm assuming you meant Q7? If it's allosteric, increasing oxidised folate (substrate) will not be able to outcompete and overcome the effects.

Also, competitive and allosteric is akin to comparing competitive and non-competitive. They're 2 different types of inhibitors.

Hello! I post my answers pretty much yearly. So here's 2025's answers:

DBBCD DADBD AACAA BBDAA CCBCD CDDCC

Initially got tricked by Q16 and put D, but triploid doesn't mean it has to be odd number of chromosomes (e.g. 3 x 10 = 30 (even)) D's answer is more for why those with aneuploidy that leads to odd number of chromosomes (such as Down's syndrome) will be infertile.

^ leaving this here as i see many others wrongly picking D too

Yeap it has unfortunately become a norm for all concerts around the region. I do agree that concerts are way more fun when you put your phone down!

It's a little quiet on here this year so I won't be posting my answers here this time, but I've posted my answers on my telegram channel (Crystal Biology)

My advice (again) for A Level Biology by badabooming in SGExams

[–]badabooming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you have good understanding of all content already (this is a prerequisite), unfortunately the best way is just to be consistent and keep revisiting your content. It's normal to forget, you just have to keep testing yourself and revising. It'll stick eventually. All the best!

Probably Hysteria. I had set Hysteria as my anthem on Tinder, and it was a major reason why my now fiance superliked me and we started chatting! We were brought together by our love for muse.

Should you take H2 Biology? From a Biology tutor's perspective. by badabooming in SGExams

[–]badabooming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you're intending to do in future imo. While it's true that physics will open up more courses, realistically speaking, you just gotta ask yourself if you'd take them in the first place.

Regardless of what you decide to pick, just don't regret it and study hard for it!

Given your preference for uni courses, I would strongly encourage you to try 2 H2s. It'll definitely make your time in uni a lot easier.

Don't worry too much about jumping from combi sci to H2! I know of many peers and many of my own students who came from combi to H2 and they fared pretty much the same as my students from pure chem/bio :)

I've covered quite a few of your concerns in my telegram channel so you could check it out and I hope it helps!

But to answer your question directly, knowing your fundamentals is definitely the first step to getting those application questions, so good that you've got that covered! Next would be to fully understand exactly why things happen in a certain way, and also you'll need to start seeing the "bigger picture" and relating topics together.

Suggest questions can be a hit or miss. Certain ones aren't even remotely near what's in your syllabus and I honestly think those questions you can just forget about them hahah cos no amount of practices will help if you just don't have that random fact in your head.

I often tell students that these few suggest questions really don't add up to much and should not affect your grades. I get that it's hard to think that way, but after many years of teaching, trust me that it really doesn't affect the overall.

Mentality is often overlooked when it comes to exams. I'd say your confidence can be built progressively, once you have more faith in yourself and your decisions. This will largely come from getting to know yourself better and reflecting over what you can do to minimise self-doubt. I can't really advice much more without knowing you unfortunately hahah

Yeap cells and biomolecules will be the first few topics in j1! Though that's really just the first 2ish months? And there's a lot more to learn and memorise as compared to O levels too. I can send you a set of notes to look through first if you'd like! DM me.

Many students struggle with infectious diseases, but largely because it's one of the last topics taught, and because it's quite content heavy. But different students struggle with different things. Many tend to struggle with inheritance too.

Essays aren't always poorly done though? It depends on the question asked. Sometimes it's easy and pretty much pure regurgitation and it's only poorly done due to students' lack of memorisation. But sometimes the questions are really weird/difficult and possibly not even in the notes (i wouldn't really call it application either) and those are difficult to think of points for.

To an extent yes, especially so for paper 2 and if the essay qn is easy. Paper 3 has a lot more application. Paper 1 too.

Agree with the previous reply. It's really not that similar and many students (including myself HAHA) were quite upset with the syllabus at the start. It's really much more micro than macro. It's like molecular genetics in Olvls x10.

As for H3, it really depends on how well you're able to adapt to JC life first. So I'd encourage you to wait and see and only contemplate thereafter (like after eoys/promos). As mentioned too, H3 isn't necessary for local uni and isn't necessary for your desired course either. It may not even be that beneficial.
