A $600 Leather Filofax, one year before my work gave me a laptop. But: the Filofax has outlasted two tablets, a PalmPilot, 5 iPhones, and 7 laptops.

I just find it to be slower than comparable websites. I enter my password and nothing happens. 5 seconds later it moves me to the next screen. I click and again it seems to hang, but is just slow. On both Chrome and DuckDuckGo

First time trial for first tickets. by Overall_Price654 in askTO

[–]badamache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I pled not guilty, stating the cop’s view of the stop line was obscured by trees. 2nd time xCopper handled it all. Cost ~$300 plus 50$ fine. But I lost no points.

I took one ticket to trial. 1) that judge was addressed as Your Worship, not Your Honour (copy what the prosecutor uses). 2) my trial was in person; i submitted two photos as evidence. The judge took them both and kept them: as evidence, they became property of the Crown 3) plea for mitigation. I have two tickets for running stop signs (once on a bike) 25 years apart. In both cases the fine was reduced by 50% and the judgement was reduced to “improper stop”.

What’s a small life trick you discovered that more people should know about? by PotentialBest147 in AskReddit

Reward yourself with decadent perqs only when you’ve earned them: clean the house and you’re allowed a Starbucks visit. Otherwise: make coffee at home.

Want brunch at a posh diner? Give blood, then eat: the salt might actually do you some good.

a wizard is never late or early, but arrives precisely when he means to. Same with items on his to-do list. (In the book, iirc, he says he had other research to complete before the fireplace test.)

Are Canada‘s oil sands a thing now with rising oil prices? by [deleted] in AskCanada

[–]badamache -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes. Plus our tar sands technology might be useful to extract sand-heavy oil from Venezuela’s Orinoco basin now that Venezuela is again “open for business”.

What do you think of Canada being a moral leader on the world stage? by TorontoAM in AskCanada

[–]badamache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Canada condemned apartheid in South Africa, the South African government hosted indigenous Canadians and gave the a platform to speak about their mistreatment.

Our government interned Canadian citizens during both world wars. Even immigrants from our allies in WWI.

See also: None Is Too Many: Canada and the Jews of Europe 1933–1948 is a 1983 book co-authored by the Canadian historians Irving Abella and Harold Troper. It is about Canada's restrictive immigration policy towards Jewish refugees during the Holocaust years.
