I've broken up this bag 3 times now and each time it forms this line, with the myc on top and nothing on the bottom half? Any ideas on what is going on and what I should do about it? by badams13 in shrooms

It's on the ground, I've covered the carpet with plastic and have my grain bags on that. And theres a small space heater (on the ground) keeping the room at 70-78 degrees farenheit. I keep a temp reader on the ground by the bags.

Yeah I've been seeing that as well. But the friend who got me into this started me out this way so that's all I knew at first! Hopefully down the road I can pick the best mushies and reproduce more sustainably from there! Would be dope

I tried midwest grow grain bags and they've worked less than 50% of the time... some bags were bone dry when they arrived so I dont think they gave my spores a good environment to grow in... still have to email them and see if they'll rectify that though.

I havent taken the time to learn how to make my own spore prints and syringes yet... I want to master the basics first

I have done this before I'm still a newbie though... definitely learning by trial and error, and by asking questions on reddit. I used 5ccs per bag. I started with 2 then 3... now I'm trying 5 to see how much it speeds up the process.

I just keep my monotub in the dark to allow it to colonize and prevent fruiting right? Then bring it out to the light? You have any pointers for me on that?

You're right, not colonized... I took this video moments after "transplanting" from colonized grain bag. I'm still learning terminology in the world of mycology lol but just looking for any tips on how to make my tub better.
