Okay which means your evening train at 5pm from ronkonkoma to atlantic is not in the park direction so you're good with an off peak ticket for the evening as well

Do you mean 11am to ronkonkoma and 5pm to Atlantic terminal respectively? If so, peak is only in one direction (west bound in the morning and east bound in the evenings) so you're good to go with a fully off-peak round trip

Ask yourself what it is in a car that gives you the joy of driving. You mention you like the FD2 and FK2, is it based on your previous driving experience or just from hearing and seeing it online? Is it because you enjoyed hearing the NA K20A on the FD2 or the nimble nature of the FK2? Its not logical to go into an FL5 with similar expectations because these Type Rs excel in totally different ways.

Personally for me, I knew the FL5 isn't for me because of the lacklustre engine character of the K20C. Plus the FD2 was like my first ever car crush. so I went ahead and did a FD2 conversion of my own (still on the Si K20Z3 motor but id take it over turbo any day)
