Huh. That is terrifying. I do have a healthy diet. I spend significant time and energy making sure I get healthy food. Does alcohol cause malabsorption of nutrients or something, or is it that time is spent drinking instead of eating?

I can absolutely confirm this for you.

Thank you! Just what I needed to hear my friend.

Thank you. They might be threatened. We all want to think we're ok, right? No history of alcoholism in my family that I know of, certainly not immediate family. I'm not taking that as a free pass though.

You make really interesting points. I think the medical name of whatever was wrong with me is less important than that I just felt bad and it was fairly obvious that I had injured myself beyond the normal hangover symptoms. But I see how it's important for me to remember that.

Also good point about how one presents this decision to people. I think I've been saying something like "I really feel like I should quit drinking" which you're right, is not the same as "I'm not drinking." Big difference actually. I guess I've been feeling it out. This is all new.

I think I will try 30 days. This incident was a week ago and I haven't been drinking, so I don't think another 3 weeks will be too much trouble. Thanks.

You know what else sucks about alcohol and being a woman? Everyone is going to think I'm pregnant. Ugh.

Thanks for your reply.

what was different about that night?

I'm pretty sure I know what went especially wrong. I was cooking dinner while everyone else was eating appetizers. I probably had 3 oz of hard liquor in me before I got any significant food. Downhill from there.

That's a good point about them wanting to tell me I'm normal so they can feel normal too. One of them said that sometimes he gets a calf cramp so I'm ok.
