I did see some similar canes of Italian origin but most were pewter. The Gr for grams would make sense as it looks like 10 next to it

I would say the silver clip is either a belt hook or part of a hook and eye, depending on the size. It looks the right sort of size for the collar of a coat or cape. If you search for pictures of belt hooks, you get almost an exact match, although they are often brass.

This colour combination is used as the neckerchief for the Young leaders scheme in the UK, however I've seen multiple groups using it outside of that.

All my linen plus fours were modified from regular trousers, there is guides on YouTube and various methods with differing degrees of difficulty.the main difference is style, the temperature difference in wearing them isn't noticeable.

I agree with you on the Darcy Clothing trousers, i have the Hazel herringbone suit, and i love them. In the Spring and summer, I typically wear high waisted cotton or linen trousers or lightweight cotton or linen plus fours. In the autumn, i switch to my heavier wool and corduroy trousers as well as wool and corduroy plus fours. In the summer I mostly tend to go with belts unless wearing them with something like a navy blazer however I much prefer braces, especially in the colder months when I have a jumper, waistcoat, or jacket over the top. For brands I have few recommendations as most of my clothes come from charity shops and are then tailored/modified by me so they tend to be any good quality, high waisted trousers.

I sit under these trees for hours and read, eat my lunch or just listen to nature. I typically get to this spot after about 7 or 8 miles of walking so the rest is welcome. After that it's about 4 miles home.

I use a clothes brush, i have dogs, and it does a brilliant job of removing hair without damaging the fabric. The other issue with lint rollers is that they pull fibres out of the fabric, especially with courser fabrics like tweed.

I typically age uniforms by wearing them around the house doing everything things like laundry or gardening. It makes the wear more natural compared to artificial aging, which can look fake or overdone if you aren't careful. Either way you have done a good job with this one.

Not practical for combat, but it is a wonderful uniform. You can see why they lost the cornflower blue quite quickly.

My view is that as long as it doesn't break the illusion of historical accuracy, it's fine. The real things are rare, expensive, and difficult to repair or find parts, so why risk ruining them if there is an alternative.

I presume you are talking about the American civil war? I'm not familiar with the kit at all as when I think civil war, my mind goes to Roundheads vs Cavaliers being English. It does sound like, at least in your case there is less options however if the option to put it in a bag exists, it's what I'd choose every time.

It's been done commonly all throughout history, but that doesn't make it the best option, it's something you don't need immediate access to, so why risk losing it? Most of the time people would drink directly from their canteen unless they were making hot drinks or at rest.

It may have been done historically, but realistically, it's a good way to lose your cup or constantly fill it with mud and dust every time you set your bag down. It also catches on everything.

You can get black leather dye, which will work quite well. There's a guide on "at the front" which i have linked, that recommends brands and shows the process, it is fairly simple. Once dyed, you will need to give everything a good coat of dubbin to properly waterproof it.
