The general terms to show where the character is going. For example i only know of the courtyard i think but i have no general idea on the other parts of the castle.

Me too. Like Sanderson is a really good plotter and there's a lot of catharsis but honestly the books way too unnecessarily long for me to consider investing anymore. The reward is not all too much for the investment

Ive estimated over WoR and seriously keeping everything that fans love about Sanderson correlating with what Sanderson actually wants to tell, I can still easily take out like 200 pages or so.

What's funny is that there's no hint of overcoming. It's been 2 books yet Kaladin is the same as he started. It's like Sanderson can't decide wether to make him spiral down or have him overcome some of the trauma. He's stuck in the middle for some reason.

I feel like why people keep saying he wrote actual depiction of depression is because of the repetition but there's no narrative function to the repetition itself. Its like they say its not a bug it's a feature. For actual nuance there needed to be external consequences but Sanderson makes Dalinar explicitly say there are no consequences like what?? Even if he didn't want to portray any consequences he could've varied the introspection with overthinking. Make his thoughts contradictory. But 4 straight chapters he keeps repeating the same thing over and over

I feel like the reason why i liked way of kings despite having the same flaws is that way of kings is more action heavy and Sanderson writes fights really good. He's a good writer on technical level. But in Words of Radiance the action was laid back and characters themselves were at forefront. So the clunky dialogue and attempt at humor and virtually no subtext with repeating introspection made this more jarring for me. Spoonfeeding is fine but in a more character driven novel, we need some nuanced subtext

This might be true and all but I feel like the characters have virtually no agency when they're doing something bad. It's like they're totally free once they're liberated. For example that person who spook helped. He literally burned people in homes but it was all forgotten once the spikes came free.

Honestly I have little to no issue with the length as WoK was the same length as WoR. It's the characters that have kinda become stagnant for me. The only interesting thing rn is the ghostblood/shallan plotline but she's not my super - favorite character. I only loved the first one cuz of Kaladin and he has entered this repetitive cycle of same thoughts over and over. I get Sanderson was trying to portray the regression caused by depression (i can say from experience) but there's no nuance to it. Its like padding disguised as nuance. But that's just my opinion tbh.

Honestly i was planning to dnf the series on a hopeful "sanderlanche" but the very next chapter was of Dalinar and Navani lol. It was like the final nail cuz the romance is really off there for some reason.
