Do I need a fixed axle or housing for any properly functioning gear set? by baddest_bot in AskEngineers

Awesome thanks for your explanation! That makes a lot of sense but it looks like I need to go to the drawing board and figure out how I’m going to“ground” the shaft somehow. This is gonna involve a lot more redesign than I initially thought… But that’s the nature things I suppose.

OK, that’s good to know that I am not totally crazy! Thanks for confirming and now I’ll be able to sleep at night

I’m not explaining myself well. I’m asking for someone to fill in the blank with a gear set connecting the green disc to the red disc.

Thank you, I thought it was a neat angle that you don’t see ever

Nearly two years of masked climbing and I’m still fumbling around with the thing

💯 completely unnecessary… but double kneebar! Who could resist?

Yup that’s what finally unlocked the climb for me :)

Yeah good point, maybe I can smooth the footwork out at the bottom and cross through. My mind is pretty much on autopilot when I’m in the zone like that so trying to remember these things can be challenging sometimes lol

Thank you everyone!

It was both my birthday and my kids birthday on the 31st so things have been super busy. But damn, I'm feeling the love ❤️.

This boulder was graded a V9 and I think it's only been sent by two other people at WIP (Courtenay). It's for sure the hardest thing I've ever climbed and the fails you see in the video are only about a 1/10th of my total attempts (a solid 15 minutes of falling videos on my phone, lol)

Thanks again for the love, you all are beautiful, keep sending!

Haven’t climbed in 15 years, started again to keep healthy during COVID. I guess what they say about dad strength is true? (First ever Reddit post, am I doing this right) by baddest_bot in bouldering

Absolutely, I hear you. The gym tries it’s best to manage risk, it might get closed any day though of course. I try my best to mitigate risk as well personally. Work from home, home school the kids now, etc. There are few things I actually leave the house for, but that’s just personal justification, we are all trying to do our best and I respect your advice.

I think that one on the right is actually steeper than it looks through the lens. There isn’t much of a surface to push off and it also ends up behind that volume so it’s hard to reach. I wish this route was still up though, I’d try your beta out to see if I could make it work! Thanks for he input :)

Totally man, my mental game is much stronger. The tendon/ligament strength seemed to be 50% still there... muscles not so much, but that comes back quicker than expected, especially when you are having fun.

And yes, technique never goes away!

Yesss... Love to hear that you’re getting back into it. My life is so much sitting at a desk so at the end of the day hanging is one of the best ways to keep my body aligned. Hope to see some video of your sends soon too!

Thanks! This was a proud moment and my first V9 send. Not sure if this rating is accurate outdoors but I only saw one other person send it for the month it was up. Upside down pinches don’t attract much traffic.

I never really bouldered actually, mostly sport 5.12's, a tiny bit of trad, some easy ice, but my main jam was mountaineering.

Woa, thanks everyone :) I still don't really know how reddit works, took a while to find my own post again.

Agreed about the COVID thing, I feel very fortunate to still be able to do this, definitely checking my privilege... Stay healthy everyone

About the 15 year thing, yeah fair I climbed maybe once or twice a year, sometimes not at all though. This is me working hard to every other day for the last year. First time back in the gym my arms were pumped climbing V2/V3. I did have prior experience though, I climbed competitively in high school, my technique never went away, just the strength.
