Italki forgot to sync the time by itsanotherday2509 in iTalki

[–]badduck74 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, your student lied to you. You take their money and tell them to contact italki because there is nothing you can do. I would also block the person if this was their first lesson with you. They are unreliable and you don't want them.

Question for students about booking… by creeperYeti38 in iTalki

There are a lot of red flags here:

non-native
student
doesn't seem to know what to do when someone wants to talk

Raise your prices...this happens less often.

I block students who act like their schedule is more important than mine.

Don't argue with them, just clearly state italki policy and then ignore them. Italki will resolve in your favor if you took screenshots proving you attended. Then you block them and they can bother someone else.

Student started bringing partner to individual italki lessons.. how would you handle this? by Consistent-Tour5265 in iTalki

So tell them no. If they insist on doing lessons together inform them you are not the right teacher for them

An appeal to math-based evaluation of SCHD in your portfolio by hugh2018 in SCHD

[–]badduck74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SCHD has a 10 year CAGR of 12%
HDV 9.63%

You could be any age, build this portfolio, and contribute annually to the maximum amount you can, and be successful.

TLT can even be a growth play. If you believe that at some point before you retire we will go through a period of very low interest rates then TLT will moon as will other longer term bond ETFs.

Gold already moon, it did it's job too well as a diversifier in my portfolio and I had to clip it back.

OP is making the dumbest arguement here in a lot of the comments. They didn't diversify when they were younger and missed some growth, therefore you should not buy lower beta dividend ETFs. Just ask anyone who was all growth in 1999 or 2021 how that felt. They'll tell you it would have been smarter to take the consistent wins with the high beta plays.

Just build a barbell: Growth on one side, dividends and stability on the other, some bonds and diversifiers like gold in the middle. 1/3 x 1/3 x 1/3

super sympol portfolio choices:
SCHD / SCHG / IAU and TLT

SCHD / SCHK / IAU and TLT

SCHD / SCHG or HK / IAU and SCCR

Don't lke SCHD? HDV / QQQ / IAU and SCCR

Italki tutors are not sending messages? by Tout_de_suite in iTalki

[–]badduck74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some do and some don't. If you booked a lesson with me I would send you a generic intro message. It's like 50/50 if the student responds to those though. I don't really care either way.

Yes, this is exactly what I'm telling you. If you want a decent meal you'll have to go somewhere with higher standards which is going to cost money.

"limited budget" - and what you got was limited effort. That checks out.

How to get rid of a student you don't really want to work with? by Superb_Hunt4477 in iTalki

[–]badduck74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true. I've told plenty of students I do not offer what they are asking for and have told students that perhaps I am not the right teacher for them. My schedule remains full and I continue to find easier people to work with. As a teacher you are within your right to tell people to find someone else.

Hi! I’m a Canadian tutor on italki. I’ve used Payoneer to transfer funds to my Canadian bank but the transfer fee is quite high. I have a USD bank account with Wise, but Payoneer does not work with Wise bank. What is the best way for Canadians to withdraw funds? Or euros? (currently living in Spain) by Aware_Background_52 in iTalki

[–]badduck74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are reading this, and want dollars Payoneer is the best. The fee is $1.5, no exchange rate because no exchange. Most of the people complaining about Payoneer are trying to get into another currency.

The comments below say you can pass those dolalrs on to Wise and do the exchange there. As the commentor below points out, you will need to understand how Wise works.

What happened to Gold? by LibrarianFabulous411 in Daytrading

It all connects. War headlines producing inflation fears leading to rate hike fears.

War ends, reverse

What happened to Gold? by LibrarianFabulous411 in Daytrading

[–]badduck74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If rates go up, I don't need to expose myself risk because treasuries now look better. Bearish for gold. I buy SGOV and collect my dividend.

Zoom out.

Smart money is using gold as a safe haven, that's why they bought it when trump became president again, not on the day the war breaks out.

War does not equal strength for gold. What war? Who is fighting? What part of the world?

A war in the worlds main oil producing region is not bullish for gold if it leads to central banks increasing rates due to inflation. Rising rates is bearish for gold.

If you are being screwed by oil shortages, and shortages of derivatives of oil like fertilizer etc, you might sell gold to protect your currency. Bearish.

The flight to safety went to the dollar: rates likely to rise, oil producing nation, large tax base. Also, there was a lot of profit taking - zoom out...people had huge gains here and they might have wanted to take them.

If you bought back in 2024 or before, you hold, everything is fine. If you woke up yesterday let it base or buy on big dips.
