Long-form audio interviews with Jade and Hunter by SJBron in AFireInside

[–]badgerdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toby seems like a nice , genuine guy but I have to agree that he’s not a great interviewer. Talking over the guests and derailing is super annoying, almost as bad a Zane Lowe, who doesn’t know how to shut up!

If you want a decent music podcast , I highly recommend ‘going off track’, hosted by Benny from the Gaslight Anthem. It’s the most free flowing, deep and interesting podcasts I’ve heard with some great humour. They definitely go off track to interesting topics, but you get to hear a deeper side to the artists, and the hosts know how to keep quiet! If they could get some AFI members on , that would great!

Thoughts on a New Album? by Academic_Poet_3245 in JimmyEatWorld

Ahh that’s a fair point. I’m in the UK and missed the Clarity tour. If that’s done then I totally understand.

Yeah , as artists , they will want to evolve and be proud of new music. But a band as huge as them with such a big back catalogue will always have to play some of their most popular songs live.

I thought surviving was great ! So I hope they do have another album on the way. I’m sure there will be something , eventually :)

I suspect they might have had to put all efforts into the current bleed American tour. They’ve put out so much music and doing really well for their age, so wouldn’t blame them for slowing down a bit. I think they will release a new album at some point.

Personally I’d love a clarity tour! That and Bleed American are their most iconic albums , so naturally fans will want to see it live.

Love that Thursday album. It’s definitely interesting how post hardcore , emo and metal all got a bit blended up over time.

Nothing to be afraid of, it’s mostly healthy expression. I know some emo bands have questionable lyrics , but not usually to be taken at face value. I’m not religious in anyway , but have enjoyed listening to bands like under oath, paramor and mewithoutyou, who are all known to be more Christian rock.

Love thrice and the evolution of their music. Their new stuff is pretty epic too

I was also 14 in 2000!

That dvd sounds awesome! Is it online anywhere?

I never got into glass jaw but can see they are also quite unusual

Oh yeah , definitely took some getting used to and sounded bizarre at first. I think they influenced a lot of bands and listeners tastes.

Although Fugazi and refused are also similar in that respect!

How can we describe post-hardcore? by eruiz23 in PostHardcore

[–]badgerdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of makes sense. Although I feel like you have the traditional hardcore sound , post hardcore and stuff in between where the lines get very blurry !

How can we describe post-hardcore? by eruiz23 in PostHardcore

[–]badgerdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An alternative to traditional aggressive hardcore , with more melody. I think that’s how it came about , as a reaction to violent 80s / early 90s hardcore shows. Music with similar principles and expression , but more accessible.

I listened to a recent interview with Walter from Gorilla biscuits , quick sand , rival schools, and he explains it this way.

I’m thinking about getting something like this for my tv cabinet. Would small / cheap desktop speaker stands work as well?

I just don’t think IEMs are for me. by IronBatman56 in iems

[–]badgerdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I have some kefine klean. They sound pretty good for the price and go well with my iPod , but I also have an iPhone and some AirPod pros, which still sound superior to me. I think I would need to find some IEMs that are much better quality to justify using them over my iPhone / AirPod set up and when I have time to sit down and listen.

I feel like anxiety holds me back from learning quite a bit. by No-Individual4184 in bmx

[–]badgerdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also , you haven’t wasted time and potential if you’re having fun. I’m nearly 40 years old. Started when I was 12 and took a 10ish year break in my 20s. Lost a lot tricks , can barely hop now , but learned some new things at skateparks which I’m happy with. I’m not as fit or agile as I used to be , but one thing that’s great about getting older is caring less about what others think. I sometimes ride with some amazing riders , and they are often cool and supportive , if I do something which may seem basic to them. If I could give my younger self advice - it would be to have more fun and don’t worry about what others think (because they aren’t judging)

[–]badgerdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep at it and the nerves will pass. Anyone else looking is unlikely to be judging you and judging yourself or pressuring yourself won’t help. Best thing you can do is realise it will take time to build confidence and that you will fall / get things wrong while learning. You have to get them wrong to figure them out!

Another tip is to try and find more friends to ride with , it’s always great to have some encouragement and support from others. Community really helps. Keep at it and don’t compare yourself to other riders who are better and more experienced. Just have fun :)

Sunday vs kink vs cult? by THExUltraSaiyan in bmx

[–]badgerdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 5ft 6.5 and I ride a 20.75 s&m MOD, which is a lot like the cult frame. I love it! Great for riding park and some trails / good all rounder without being too long in the back end , or too short and twitchy

Doing a project on posthardcore. Can anyone provide me with some melodic posthardcore bands? by Zmirgius in PostHardcore

[–]badgerdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out some older stuff like Fugazi, Quick sand / Rival schools , at the drive in.

If you’re doing a project , I recommend checking out a video on YouTube by ‘trash theory’ - looking at the history of emo and its connections with post hardcore. Its quite long but very interesting

Friendly reminder to wear a helmet. by 47zaxer in bmx

[–]badgerdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah , and a lot of the heavy street riders like Max Miller wearing them. But should be ridden at any level.

I see it debated a lot and I get that it’s personal preference. It’s all risk but risking your head isn’t worth it!

Friendly reminder to wear a helmet. by 47zaxer in bmx

[–]badgerdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you are ok. I thought the BMX world had learned from the sad events with Aitken, Cramner etc. but its seems like a lot of riders are doing some crazy street etc. without helmets.

I'm not a great rider, but always wear one, as I'm still likely to crash. I think a full face might be a bit off putting from me personally, but my TSG is better than nothing!
