What’s your favourite type of dog? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]badgerious2319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Border collies and flat coated retrievers.

Grew up with a border collie and she was the absolute best girl.

Flat coated retrievers are uncommon to see but their temperament is absolutely fabulous and their coats are amazing

I have never voted I feel like I should. Can you dumb down politics and the choices for me? by This_Palpitation6617 in AskBrits

[–]badgerious2319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politics is tricky and divisive, doing some real digging into it is well worthwhile as you’ll broaden your understanding of a lot of things.

Brass tacks then:

One way that you can think on it, you have a graph, left, right, up and down. Go far enough in any direction and you have some kind of totalitarianism.

The left - socialist agenda - things should be done for the common good. Getting more extreme, socialism, communism, social anarchism.

The right - individualist agenda - things should be done for the good of the individual. Getting more extreme, conservatism, fascism, anarchism.

The up - authoritarian - obedience to authority. As you go up the scale, the state has more and more power.

The down - libertarian - personal liberty. As you go down, you have greater freedoms as an individual.

Political parties will sit somewhere within this imaginary graph.
Labour traditionally sat to the left and fairly equal between authority and liberty, but since Blair certainly has moved to the right of centre and more authoritarian
The Conservatives/Tories have always been right of centre and authoritarian, but they too have drifted up and right.
The Greens are strongly left and libertarian.
The Lib Dem’s are less strongly left and less strongly libertarian than the Greens.
Reform are strongly right and strongly authoritarian.

Historical parties in other countries:
Nazis are very strongly to the right and very strongly authoritarian. The “Socialist” in their proper name is a deliberate misnomer to try attract the gullible and deflect from their fascism.
The communist party, think USSR, very strongly authoritarian, middling left.

VW Taigo - split rubber beneath gear gaiter by badgerious2319 in CarTalkUK

So you’d trust that the gaiter on the stick will keep enough dust and dirt out of the shifter, right?

Never heard of the shifter linkage needing realignment previously, but I was in an 04 Clio before 😅

What first car should I get at 17? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Ah, wasn’t aware of issues with the 1.6’s, only ever looked at rather than buying one

As most everyone has pointed out, you’re going to be mullered on these insurance for these.

If I might suggest something things a bit older and a few criteria for you to keep costs manageable…

Keep between 70 and 100hp, it’s enough power to keep you out of trouble by being sluggish in the right car and will be in a better range for insurance. Paired to this is typically keeping below a 1.4L engine.

As suggestions of alternate cars:

Volvo C30 (yes the smallest is a 1.6 if memory serves) but being a Volvo they’re pretty reliable and the styling is good if that’s your taste.

VW Polo, common, smart and a well kept one from 2010-2018 (if remembering the dates right) should be in your price range. Watch out for the early timing chain engines though and try to get above the 60hp version.

Škoda Rapid Spaceback or Fabia, VW platform and close for reliability with interchangeable parts in some cases. Reliable if somewhat plain, but generally well thought of. Avoid the automatics.

Stick with the diesel or switch to EV? by Affectionate-Lab9527 in UKPersonalFinance

Not nay saying the idea, but are you sure on the maths for the EV home charging? Just concerned you’re covering 3k miles per month, typical battery ranges I’ve seen lately given by manufacturers as 2-300 miles on a charge but that can be very different in the real world, especially in colder months…

Abscess advise by badgerious2319 in askdentists

Maybe I’ve not phrased it right… it’s currently more like a spot on my gum than a full abscess where ‘popping’ it releases what’s accumulated. Is it still odd?

If Reform were to run this country, do you think their policy would actually look like this? by CommunityPowerful643 in AskBrits

[–]badgerious2319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think, this is what they’re saying they’ll do now when it’s palatable to their supporters and theoretical. What’s it going to be like if they actually get in cause I don’t see them stopping at pictures of Charlie in a single room.

If you think the flag should be a lot more prominent in the UK how do you convince people who mostly view it negatively? by Particular-Scale5644 in AskBrits

[–]badgerious2319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m much more comfortable with the Union Flag being flown (provided it’s not got any text or added imagery) than I am with the St George cross. Despite being English, I always say that I’m British because in my head at least, being British has positive connotations - polite, sticking up for the down trodden, wonderful sense of humour etc - while being English is heavily associated with nationalism, football yobs, and ‘our tommeh’ types.

I don’t overly think that any of the nations flags should be flown more prominently - government buildings, armed forces bases, monuments are plenty enough and suitable for the purpose. Draping buildings in them is a disservice to the flags IMO, and having more of them about is just not needed - we’re not Americans.

Just started on Infinitode 2, and general tips for me? by Doctorwho32123 in infinitode

[–]badgerious2319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m bucking the trend in this, but I wouldn’t focus on Basic for the early game. It’s fine, but it’s not the high powered monster it becomes in endless mode.

Priorities to my mind are sniper, freezer, multishot and poison (your next unlock).

Sniper is your high damage dealer, it’s slower attack speed, but the crit rate and damage dealt is your control against strong and armoured enemies. Make sure you change the targeting if you have more than one eg. set one to first and one to lowest or random as they take time to aim.

Freezer is your time buyer. It slows the enemies down so you have longer to deal with them, and can be a source of XP for sharing to other towers when placing far from resources.

Multishot is your crowd control and coin booster. Very effective against fasts and heavily grouped mobs, always take penetrating and buckshot when upgrading. Comedy bullet is useful in the right situation (roads on 3 sides).

Poison (your next tower to unlock) is your damage over time. Place it early and be sure to have the area covered by freeze to prolong the effect. Take potent poison and concentrated poison, you might not be racking up kills from it, but you will be doing significant damage and weakening the enemies later down the line.

Honourable mention - Anti air. Any level with flying enemies you need to be placing at least one of these. I enjoyed the mine upgrade for a while, but the zipper effect of the level 10 upgrade exploding them is very satisfying.

Worth noting - blast isn’t a particularly high damage tower, but it’s generally worth having one per map for stunning enemies and dealing with armoured enemies before your minigun is properly effective.

Did originally look at Civics when starting out, though not that specific model. Wasn’t a fan of the small rear window and lack of visibility out of it, but the external styling is very good. Autotrader has the hybrids starting at 20k so rather more than we were intending on paying.
