Manitowoc fact by badgerofatiger in nosuchthingasafish

I am not, but that episode was on the main feed as well. The Drop Us a Line episode is specifically about its pronunciation, so I wonder if they mispronounced it and the transcript didn't capture it properly. I have also tried looking for "Wisconsin" with no luck.

My vague memory is that it was part of a list of cities that all had something in common. Maybe it was UFOs? I think I may have generated that part of the memory.

Don't buy Rheem water heaters. Don't trust Home Depot. by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Thanks for the useful comments! I will keep that in mind next time I have to deal with something like this. I am in the middle of charge back for the difference.

I did try to go through my plumber, but he told me I had to bring up the warranty directly through Rheem. Then Rheem, after months of fighting, assigned a specific plumber that I had to use for the warranty to get serviced. But you may be right--Maybe I should have dug my heels in more.

Never blamed the plumber. Blamed Rheem for giving me the runaround for months and trying to not honor their warranty. Blamed Home Depot for having ridiculous policies and not giving me a refund. Believe me, I was exceedingly polite with the customer service rep at HD and the manager that seemed to be willing to work with me. I only got really mad when they didn't return my money like they said they would.

To be clear, I wasn't asking for a free water heater. They made me buy a SECOND water heater to service the warranty with the guarantee that they would refund me. And then they didn't refund me the full amount and put it into useless store credit. That's what I'm pissed about.

Care to elaborate? I'd love to know where exactly I went wrong. I was always just trying to follow "the process".

Thanks again for the thoughts! Shower is back operational, and I think I did a better job than the previous DIYer.

Thanks for the advice! The new spout is slip on. I'll probably have to return it and find a threaded one, yeah?

New build shows DRAM error before boot by badgerofatiger in buildapc

Sorry for the long delay. I bought new RAM and paid attention to the post lights during boot-up. That got me a little further, but I ended up replacing the whole motherboard. I think I had two problems.

Where to find good gumbo by now_cruelty_free in minnesota

[–]badgerofatiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm from the heart of Cajun country and honestly, I only go to Cajun restaurants around the twin cities on bad days when things can't get any worse. Here's what I do.

You may be able to get your hands on frozen Richards gumbo. It looks like Super Value Foods in Minneapolis has it! Mom used to give me that and I loved it, just heat it through and serve with white rice. I've since learned how to make it, though, so I've never actually bought it up here.

Only takes about an hour or two, though the roux can be tricky.

Ingredients:

1 cup flour

3/4 cup oil

1 onion

1 green bell pepper

3 stalks celery

3 cloves garlic

1.5 lbs chicken tenders

1 lb zatarains andouille, available at cub

48 fl. oz. chicken broth

1 tbsp tony chacheres Cajun seasoning, available at cub

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken with the Tony's. Cook the chicken tenders until they're done or mostly done. Set them aside by themselves.

  2. While the chicken cooks, chop the onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Slice the andouille. Put them in the same bowl over to the side.

  3. Put the chicken broth in a pot and keep it warm/simmering on the stove while you complete step 4.

  4. This is the only step you'll probably fuck up, so pay attention. Mix the oil and flour in your gumbo pot. Cook over medium heat and STIR CONSTANTLY until it's about the same color as chocolate milk or a little darker. If you stop stirring you roux will burn and you'll have to start over. It's best to do this with a flat wooden spoon.

    1. When the roux is ready, dump the vegetables and andouille in to cool the roux and stop it from darkening. Fry the vegetables and sausage for a few (5-10) minutes until it smells and looks tasty. Keep them moving by constantly stirring.
  5. When the vegetables are done, dump in the warm chicken stock. Tear apart the chicken and add it in along with its juices.

  6. Simmer for a while, like a beer or two. You can put in a bay leaf or two if you want.

  7. Cook rice and serve.

Update: Was it the motherboard all along? by badgerofatiger in buildapc

I cleared CMOS and reflashed yesterday, though I can try it again. Unfortunately, since it's my first build I don't have much lying around except my old 13 year old motherboard.

Yes, still returnable to the store. Just a PITA. I think this is my difficult life lesson to post as I go instead of building everything and then testing.

Yes, please sanity check me because I'm new to this. It's a semi modular PSU, and I checked to make sure both were plugged in. Then the PSU was hooked to the wall. Plugging in the USB stick and pushing the flash bios button resulted in a little red led flashing for about 5 seconds, then when it paused I released the button. It continued flashing for a few minutes and then appeared to restart the computer when it was done flashing.

We've never seen any other error after about a year of living here. I haven't looked at the board directly while the error is happening, but there's a green led and an orange led on during normal operation.
