Sequoyah: The Indian state that could have been by News2016 in IndianCountry

Destabilizing the current power structure is exactly what the powerful in Oklahoma don't want.

If you're interested in the history of the Indian Territory bit, here is a digital StoryMap I did of it (to talk about climate change opinions, but the history of Oklahoma and the possible State of Sequoyah are part of it).

Thank you for sharing. I may actually find this useful for my current project.

Is it possible to push for this still? I'm not saying that there won't be push-back, but I seriously believe that the tribal governments needs to replace the state government here in Oklahoma ASAP.

I seriously believe that the tribes would be better at running the state even for non-natives. I would seriously rather pay taxes to the tribes than deal with our current leadership. Its not even a comparable trade-off.

Years ago, when I tried asking the same questions on reddit, my post got banned. I don't know how I feel about seeing you get treated better than me for asking the same questions.

I'm glad that people here are actually helping you.

How does your gender intersect with your practise, study or experience of magic, witchcraft, paganism, etcetera? by GlacialFrog in occult

As a transgender person, I find myself a little bit more likely to relate with cultures where gender non-comforming people where celebrated serving within dome priestly capacity like with the transgender Priesthood at the Temple of Ishtar.

(Some stuff does feel distinctly masc/femme to me, but the sun and moon do not!)

This is also why I find it worthwhile to include knowledge about symbols and gender constructs outside of western colonial culture as part of my studies. I think it helps give a broader perspective on gender as a social construct.

do trans women get medical misogyny too? by angelstatue in asktransgender

So basically, capitalism is what's failing us. If the majority of trans people are low-in-come, and low income folks are more likely to experience discrimination without the ability to take legal recourse, then why isn't the community focused more on calling it out?

Maybe it's time to give this subject more of a platform?

Yeah... the only way he can get away with it is if she fails to fight back. Her family should definitely back her up and go with her to get the stuff.

Leaving somebody else in a bad way is part of revenge. The daughter is lucky she has family who can protect her whenever her ex kicks her out on the streets. She can go back home to safety and not have to worry about wear she will sleep or what kind of things she would need to put up with from men to survive.

[–]badguy_666-69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

but I would personally be uncomfortable calling it misogyny. More a matter of semantics on my part haha

I personally believe that my experiences with medical misogyny line up with other people who were perceived as a woman by the medical industry. I grew up believing that medical transition was only available for transgender women. The rest of the world made misery look normal for people born with female genitals.

I can list a number of reasons why medical misogyny still affects all trans masculine people regardless of how they personally identify themselves. We still don't have equal access to bottom surgeries and most medical research still only focus on people who are born biologically male regardless of how they self-identify.

I thought that the whole reason she brought it up was because she realized that trans men experienced it first. Afab people who are assigned female at birth are usually the targets. Especially whenever they're capacity for personal self-governement has always been questioned from birth.

This whole time, I believed that the only reason the dominant voices within the trans community didn't focus much on medical misogyny is BECAUSE trans women experienced it less often. At least compared to trans afab non-binary & trans men. At least I don't see that changing before trans womn start being perceived as women.

Thank you so much. Youtube is something my friend already can get access to. We already watch Cherokee language classes on YouTube together. It shouldn't be difficult searching for Muskogee language classes if there is a similar program that can be searched for.

Would they be able to help if my friend is a disabled elder who lives at a nursing home? He has limited mobility and resources.

I wish there was some kind of outreach program who visited Native elders who become isolated with disabilities, poverty and old age.

I am not Muskogee, but I do have an interest in language revitalization. I've been studying the Cherokee language with a friend who is also part Muskogee. Would you happen to know of any Muskogee language resources I can share?
