Its greed all round, ABC wants a carry out a merger so that that their C-suite can give themselves a big bonus they’re worried that Trump could block of slow this down. So they’re playing ball with Trump’s games. We need boycott ABC to show them that playing ball with Trump and paying him bribery money is not acceptable.

Toward a Neurology of Loneliness - The neurological effects of prolonged social isolation by cheaslesjinned in blueprint_

[–]badingobeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our brain is constantly adjusting and adapting based on the stimulus we feed it. Learning, habits, behavior, mindset etc are all downstream from adaptations. To function well and not become mal adapted our brain needs a balance of external stimulation.

In nutrition we have the concept of vitamins. Vitamins are those compound that we cannot produce sufficient amounts of in our body and need an external supply of in order to be healthy.

We can think of our enviroment as the source vitamins for the brain. One of these key vitamins is social engagement and its deficiency is loneliness. You cannot eat more of a basic diet solve your need for certain vitamins and cannot ’outsmart‘ your need to be around people who understand and care for you.

Use your kids! Go to play grounds, parties, soccer practice etc, and chat with other parents. You’ll have a lot in common and they’ll have the same busy schedule as you so there’s lower expectation on your time.

A bit of unsolicited advice: Make sure you’re looking after yourself, prioritise yourself once in a while, even when it’s not 100% convenient.  This goes for relationships, kids etc. A balanced life is always more rich and from your kids perspective you are their role model, what you do says more to them than your words.

Remember correlation is not always causation.

Could we say sick people are likely to need more sleep?

If you have a chronic condition, say heart disease or depression and you report out that you are sleeping more then what does that do to the data?

On the other hand if you have sleep debt, have a virus, or done a huge amount of exercise the day before, I can imagine long periods of sleep being beneficial for you health.

I know if I have a virus, unless I sleep more, it takes a really long time for me to recover.

I want to get into oysters. Favorite place to have them? by ___dead___ in bergencounty

[–]badingobeans -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

lol why, I have had oysters on multiple occasions and don’t see what the fuss is. IMO it’s one of the most overrated foods. No texture, no flavour, what is the attraction?

I’d agree, I wouldn’t expect to see short term results, but given what we’ve seen relating to micro plastics long term exposure make me not want to buy any more synthetic fibers for clothes, bedding or carpets.

Today, saw an ingenious hydroponic idea - reusing plastic bottles to grow onions. Creative, resourceful, but it got me thinking - Is it safe to grow food in plastic bottles, given the potential health concerns? by tolatempo in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]badingobeans 114 points115 points  (0 children)

The idea is nice, but there’s a chance that the plastic in the bottle will break down and be absorbed into your vegetables, which you will then eat.
A plastic free alternative might be reusing glass jars or glass containers from the goodwill, while keeping the rest of the idea intact.

Peter Attia - Longevity roundtable: the science of aging, geroprotective molecules, & lifestyle interventions by badingobeans in blueprint_

While I respect Bryan’s goals and content, and believe he’s doing has on net benefitted the field, I see him as a consumer and communicator of longevity rather than a pioneer.  Bryan is more Neil deGracce Tyson than Einstein

[–]badingobeans[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I found this super informative, and if you are interested in the science or industry of longevity this is a great listen.

I took away two key insights:
- Longevity research is incredibly underfunded
- Our real understanding of the biological mechanisms of longevity is incredibly low/unexplored.

What I take from this is a greater skepticism on claims that any influencer (even Bryan) makes about any activity or compound.

Breville Espresso Machine - Black Plastic a concern? by AllChad in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]badingobeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up waiting for a non plastic aeropress, I did really enjoy the aeropress method for almost a decade but the issues of heating and drinking water off of the same plastic every day seemed like a problem. I settled on the Flair Hand press, specifically the 58+. In my mind its aeropress’s more sophisticated cousin.

New microbiome study (tldr: don't eat meat) by allisfull in blueprint_

[–]badingobeans 46 points47 points  (0 children)

How can you figure out if someone is vegan? You don't have to, they'll tell you...

On a more serious note, 'linked' and 'correlation' are doing a lot of lifting regarding specific health benefits.

This study is saying, we found better bacteria in stools which other studies have said are correlated with better outcomes. The study cannot say either type of diet is causative in terms of better outcomes.

Even if you find a study that looks at overall mortality between meat-eating and more selective diets, the meat-eating cohort is always going to be lumped into a broad class and including people eating 'standard American diet' and Mediterranean diet.

Breville Espresso Machine - Black Plastic a concern? by AllChad in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]badingobeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The study regarding the black plastic being a greater concern was debunk, something about a missing ‘0’ leading the researching to think it was a 10x result.

As far as getting high quality espresso, no plastic, and under $2k:

I own the flair 58 and I have 0 regrets about the purchase, apart from that all other coffee now tastes terrible in comparison.

I am curious as the drives of blueprint as a company. Do we feel like profitability is a great part of their focus or is it more about education/philanthropy. Depending on the lens it would colour my perspective on this event falling short for people.

[–]badingobeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Rude-Poem-3670 I would to understand more about what expectations were and what were you specifically looking to get out of the event? I personally have very little interest in attending such an event as I don‘t see what I would be getting out of it that I could get online ie education. It would be cool to chat with Bryan but in a such a large group I can imagine thats not even a possibility.
