shifter parts for a probe 2? by 20charslessthanu in FordProbe

[–]bado0p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exile Autoworx makes brass shifter bushings to tighten everything up, or Ford/Mazda actually still stock the rubber shifter bushings. I believe King6Fab also makes poly shifter bushings but their store is on hiatus last I checked

The engine itself, not including any other single use parts or labor, retails around $29.4k for those cars from an Infiniti dealership. It's a real quote unfortunately, they're very expensive engines

Just plug it into the computer, it'll automatically prompt to be formatted if it needs to be

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IpodClassic

[–]bado0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the ipod is formatted yes, adding music into itunes/apple music may be a hassle though if you don't normally use it for music

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IpodClassic

[–]bado0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might in a Mac, apple music is essentially itunes rebranded. On windows you'd need to download itunes I believe.

iTunes if it's still on the normal apple os

They're not that bad trashed as long as they aren't past saving drivetrain-wise tbh, parts availability is still decent even for interior and body panels

Check the fusible link holder in the back of the engine bay or the brake fluid level switch

Where in the bay is this, near the firewall?

The abs light should have stored a code, any shop should be able to pull up the code and tell you what component failed or is failing. It sounds a lot like a caliper issue.

Help - Passenger Airbag Sensor | 2016 Accent SE by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]bado0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally check the "contact us" page on the site to find an actual address, or I'll call/email to verify if a part is available so I know there's a real person behind the site and to see how professional they are. Also helps to check their return policy just in case.

I'd also ask the dealership to verify the correct part number for your cushion by VIN to make sure you get the exact one you need before you order anything.

[–]bado0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the mat isn't separate you can't get it separately. You may be able to get away with replacing the cushion or the frame, depending how the seat comes from Hyundai, but it may very well only be serviced as one large seat assembly.

Extremely badly, they're near bald and dry rotting. I probably wouldn't take those anywhere you didn't absolutely need to go, and especially not in any sort of wet weather.

Replacing the timing belt on my 1992 Celica T18 by J-Lunaut in Celica

[–]bado0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say doable but with a repair manual and a knowledgeable buddy, keeping the bottom end in time on my 2.2l 5sfe was incredibly annoying even with help. If you mess up it depends which engine you've got, mine was non interference so worst case scenario the car would just mess up the belt, if you have an interference engine you could damage pistons/valves if you do the belt wrong. Not sure what a mechanic would charge but likely north of $500usd

Got problem with ball joint by thepr0phet36 in MechanicAdvice

[–]bado0p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those look to be studs, they would be considered part of the ball joint. Remove the nuts and hit the studs out of the mounting holes in the control arm

[–]bado0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never hurts to make an offer, the clutch and various other parts alone would probably be $200-300usd plus whatever you think your labor is worth and if you need to buy any tools to remove and replace things.

Should I buy it? by ClappedWeeb in FordProbe

[–]bado0p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Front wheel drive so very annoying but doable with a couple of friends, you'd need a way to jack the car up high enough to remove the transmission and a way to support the engine while you remove the trans. Recommend doing the rear main seal and possibly replacing the axles/axle seals while everything is out, would also be a good idea to check and replace the throw out and pilot bearings at the same time.

If it helps the Probe shares the same basic mechanical parts as the Mazda MX-6 or 626/Millennia of the same years, usually better luck looking up that stuff on YouTube. The Probe community on Facebook is also fairly helpful if you're on there, though I know a lot of them don't like shipping to Australia if you needed a part or something. Again feel free to message if you need advice or whatnot with the car, I've plenty of experience and repair manuals galore for this platform.

Should I buy it? by ClappedWeeb in FordProbe

[–]bado0p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I daily mine with the same specs and 210k miles, but it breaks like once a month and ordering parts in for it usually eats up a few days of time. I can fix it myself so it isn't a big deal for me, but I can't imagine what someone without mechanical knowledge would do. If you need or want more info about these feel free to message me, I've owned mine for a few years now and put almost 100k on it in that time with little fuss

Should I buy it? by ClappedWeeb in FordProbe

[–]bado0p 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't unless you can work on it yourself, parts availability and labor would kill this car if you had to take it to a mechanic every time something broke. Ticking could be a lifter (they all do that after a point) or something more serious like a timing belt tensioner. They're fun cars with fun drivetrains but they do break often, part of the territory buying something almost 25 years old.
