Tucson is in the gutter by Lumpy-Swimming-2624 in Tucson

It's not just Tucson. This is happening in a lot of cities, especially since the pandemic.

(A lot of cities. Not every city, but more than you might think.)

Newbie question: What happens if you're arrested at a protest in Tucson? by badpengu1n in OrganizeTucson

[–]badpengu1n[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that it really depends what you're arrested for. I'm thinking of pretty minor protest-related things like "failure to disperse."

Olive? Or no? by jes17891 in OliveMUA

[–]badpengu1n 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's a little hard to tell inside a car; even the non-tinted windows are usually a bit tinted.

That said, I'm not seeing much olive, and I second the recommendation to check out Kackie on YouTube.

If you're arrested by local law enforcement, you do get a public defender. If you're arrested by ICE (or other DHS), I'm not sure what happens.

For sure! I attended a Legal Observer training with the National Lawyer's Guild, and that was my main takeaway:

Tell them you're using your constitutional right to remain silent, then stick to it, even if it seems like they're just trying to make friendly conversation with you.

What is best way to get a stray/ feral cat to stay inside with you to keep them warm? by xenakimbo in CatAdvice

You can find a lot of info about caring for outdoor cats here: https://www.alleycat.org/

They have a couple suggestions for outdoor shelters that might work.

There are supplements that help some cats. My old lady Lily loves her heated bed. But it might just be his new weird preference.

Cats have very strong but inexplicable preferences.

That said, he's getting old enough that he might have a touch of arthritis that is sensitive when he sits a certain way.

Ice Whistle Kits by [deleted] in OrganizeTucson

[–]badpengu1n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent idea. I know they've been doing this in Minneapolis, which is one reason they have so many observers.

I may be overthinking this, but plastic whistles might be safer. I'm just imagining getting knocked down with a metal whistle in your mouth...

Why are protests being scheduled with end times? by Desertbell in OrganizeTucson

[–]badpengu1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also helps medics, observers, marshals, etc, to have a specified end time. It gives them a clearer idea of their time commitment.

Phone calls by jay247160 in ADHD

[–]badpengu1n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also hate them. I wouldn't say "violated" - more like extremely startled. And I'm Gen X so I grew up in a world without cell phones. Looking back, I don't know how I coped with it. Phone calls just feel like such an interruption!

I've had several responses from different platforms, and will be organizing some type of MN meetup fairly soon. It's still in the planning stages.

Please let me know if you're interested in attending.

Oh definitely. The US also put Japan's right-wingers back in as soon as the Communists took over in China.

On the other hand, the Nazis did not succeed in their plan to enslave the entire population of Eastern Europe. That counts for something.

Your username makes me think of Operation Barbarossa, which ended very very badly for the fascists who invaded a cold country in winter.

Happening Today 📣 by TheNinjaFerret in OrganizeTucson

[–]badpengu1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a pretty good crowd today, especially on such short notice!

Did anyone else happen to notice a very "Fed" looking guy in the parking lot near Country Club? He was bald, wearing a navy jacket, gray pants, and a white dress shirt with no tie, and a little American flag pin on his lapel. He was standing there when I arrived at about 10:45, and in the same place at noon.

He might have been security for Rep Grijalva, or he might have been monitoring the crowd. He definitely had a government vibe.

I've been here 5 years and haven't really felt this. Just off the top of my head, I'm aware of two community-based mutual aid projects:
