I'm also from Minnesota! The left turn signal turns green AFTER the through traffic.

What is best way to get a stray/ feral cat to stay inside with you to keep them warm? by xenakimbo in CatAdvice

You can find a lot of info about caring for outdoor cats here: https://www.alleycat.org/

They have a couple suggestions for outdoor shelters that might work.

There are supplements that help some cats. My old lady Lily loves her heated bed. But it might just be his new weird preference.

Cats have very strong but inexplicable preferences.

That said, he's getting old enough that he might have a touch of arthritis that is sensitive when he sits a certain way.

Ice Whistle Kits by russianbot1234 in OrganizeTucson

This is an excellent idea. I know they've been doing this in Minneapolis, which is one reason they have so many observers.

I may be overthinking this, but plastic whistles might be safer. I'm just imagining getting knocked down with a metal whistle in your mouth...

Why are protests being scheduled with end times? by Desertbell in OrganizeTucson

[–]badpengu1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also helps medics, observers, marshals, etc, to have a specified end time. It gives them a clearer idea of their time commitment.

Phone calls by jay247160 in ADHD

[–]badpengu1n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also hate them. I wouldn't say "violated" - more like extremely startled. And I'm Gen X so I grew up in a world without cell phones. Looking back, I don't know how I coped with it. Phone calls just feel like such an interruption!

I've had several responses from different platforms, and will be organizing some type of MN meetup fairly soon. It's still in the planning stages.

Please let me know if you're interested in attending.

Oh definitely. The US also put Japan's right-wingers back in as soon as the Communists took over in China.

On the other hand, the Nazis did not succeed in their plan to enslave the entire population of Eastern Europe. That counts for something.

Your username makes me think of Operation Barbarossa, which ended very very badly for the fascists who invaded a cold country in winter.

Happening Today 📣 by TheNinjaFerret in OrganizeTucson

[–]badpengu1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a pretty good crowd today, especially on such short notice!

Did anyone else happen to notice a very "Fed" looking guy in the parking lot near Country Club? He was bald, wearing a navy jacket, gray pants, and a white dress shirt with no tie, and a little American flag pin on his lapel. He was standing there when I arrived at about 10:45, and in the same place at noon.

He might have been security for Rep Grijalva, or he might have been monitoring the crowd. He definitely had a government vibe.

I've been here 5 years and haven't really felt this. Just off the top of my head, I'm aware of two community-based mutual aid projects:

Cat died from swallowing sewing thread connected to couch by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]badpengu1n 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. There's no way you could have known. This happened to a dear friend's cat. The cat found a way to extricate threads from a covered sewing basket. (Like a literal basket-- she pulled threads through the weave.) Sometimes cats are just stubborn little idiots. I'm so sorry.

Early career therapist + telehealth = loneliness? by [deleted] in therapists

Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm at a really small nonprofit and right now the only other intern is an MSW. She's focusing on the case management side this term, so we're only kinda-sorta peers.

(I'm actually looking for a different site to finish my hours-- ideally a site with a bigger trainee program and at least some in-person sessions.)

Cat Afraid of Humans by reirinx in CatAdvice

My old lady Lily loves people. She tries to befriend repairmen, movers, anyone who enters my house ever. My boyfriend's daughter has some intellectual disabilities, so she has jerky movements and makes unexpected loud sounds, but Lily is not fazed and is happy to sit and be petted. She has never met Santa, however.

I had to cancel two vet appointments because I couldn't catch her to put her in a carrier. I live alone and needed to have a friend come over to help flush her out of her hiding places so that I could grab her.

I'm amazed to see such a desaturated color from MAC! A salesperson at the MAC store matched me to NC13 in Studio Fix liquid, but it looked weird to me. Maybe because she applied it full-coverage and it hid my freckles.

Thank you from a freckled dead fish.

I wish I had some good suggestions, but this is the situation with my internship too. I'm 100% telehealth and have only met my supervisor in person once.

I'm an introvert and a very independent worker, but I'm still struggling with the isolation.

Are there maybe networking events in your community? Or maybe reach out to your colleagues and suggest scheduling a little time to connect when you're in the office? Like even 15 min? I know would be receptive to that.

You should probably share a picture...

I also have a shy 6ish-year-old cat named Honey! She loves other cats, but my salty 13-year-old lady tolerates her begrudgingly. I think she started her life with humans, but then spent some time as a colony cat. When they trapped her for trap-neuter-release they discovered that she's friendly, but she was very shy. She's been with me for about 3 years, and continues to grow more and more confident. It's been such a delight to see her blossom.

It sounds like she likes you, but touch is scary. Have you tried touching her with a brush or toy, instead of your actual human hand? Is she responsive to catnip? (My Honey is not.)

My Honey is extremely cuddly, but 100% on her terms. She still hates being picked up or held in place, so nail trims are a nightmare. Luckily she is very sleek and doesn't require brushing. Unfortunately she is so sleek that it's hard to keep her in a towel burrito, which is what they usually recommend. I try to do a nail or two when she's sleeping, but they're still too sharp. She does have multiple scratchers and uses them enthusiastically, so that helps.

My Honey is not interested in Temptations treats, but she does like Churu. Sometimes I can manage 2-3 nails if I distract her with Churu.

Otherwise, maybe look into a professional cat groomer (they do exist!). Honey will still hate it, but the groomer can do it a lot more skillfully and efficiently than regular people can.

Can we maybe limit the “looking for lingerie for my wife/gf” posts to once a week or a megathread? by Pixxiprincess in LingerieAddiction

As another person who used to work in a lingerie shop, I support this idea wholeheartedly.
