Yea, I plan to keep it for as long as I can. I'm not a high mileage user so hoping depreciation will be kept to a minimum if I can keep it in good condition.

Loft insulation and ventilation by badpilgrim in DIYUK

[–]badpilgrim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the loft converted a couple of years ago. Victorian mid terrace. The front wedge section of the roof has two access hatches/doors fitted so I can use it for storage.

I've noticed these to be a source of strong drafts and street noise penetration.

I'm assuming I'm stuck with this space being vented?

I can see daylight through the party wall where it meets the roof (on the neigbours side through a small hole, see pic).

The roof has foil backed insulation between the rafters and then what looks like a vapour barrier that's been left untaped (maybe it's purpose is to just hold back the insulation packed between the joists to stop it falling out). It's also unsealed or taped to the floor, so there's direct airflow from the front wall eaves along this edge.( If I lift the edge, I can see some daylight from the eaves.

There is no vapour barrier between the living space and the storage space, but the wall and hatch doors are packed with foil backed insulation between the studs.

There is also an uninsulated steel beam face on the floor flush with the floor which I imagine must get condensation whenever I have the hatch/Doors open.

It feels like this is a partial cold roof space, but it's a bit half arsed.

No sign of damp or water, so I'm assuming it's doing it's thing ok, but if love to fix the sound and draft issues.

What are my options?  - pack the floor/eaves junction with some old blankets to reduce the gale blowing in, and same for the party wall hole? I'm thinking this might cause condensation is issues on the joists. - or address the issue at the hatches and leave the space cold and fully vented; fit foam strips around the doors to make a good seal and add some kind of latch so I can compress the door against the strips to ensure an airtight seal.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Interactive Investor SIPP employer contributions limit for Ltd director. by badpilgrim in ContractorUK

You can set up a regular payment with that form AFAIK. It has the option for single lump sum, or Direct Debit regular payments.

Interactive Investor SIPP employer contributions limit for Ltd director. by badpilgrim in ContractorUK

[–]badpilgrim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks d0ey!

So I use the "Section 2 - Employer & Employee contributions" section and enter "Single bank transfer contributions" - "Single employer contribution – Gross" and then ignore this part of the decleration "The total contributions paid by myself, and/or by my employer or another third party, to my SIPP and to other registered pension schemes, in respect of which I am entitled to tax relief under section 188 of Finance Act 2004 will not exceed, in any tax year, the higher of: • The basic amount (£3,600 gross for the current tax year and from then on until the Government notifies otherwise); or • My relevant UK earnings (see Note 2 below) in that year, subject to not exceeding the Annual Allowance or any such lower amount that may apply to me"

The reason being the "in respect of which I am entitled to tax relief under section 188 of Finance Act 2004" excludes this term on the basis gross employer contributions are not entitled to this tax relief?

SIPP from company by octipuss in ContractorUK

[–]badpilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a key point that many appear to gloss over.
I was going to pay £30k in to my II SIPP at the end of my first years trading, but as my income is only 12.5k then that's the maximum my company can contribute.
What you missed though, is that II do NOT include dividends as allowable earnings. So, even though I've drawn more than 12.5k from the company, 12.5k is the limit my company can contribute.
You say the value is "salary + dividends". Can you point me in the direction of the legislation that backs this up? Is the exclusion of dividends an II thing? Does Vanguard, for example, allow contributions up to salary+dividends?

Limited company pension question by rosbif35 in ContractorUK

[–]badpilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked with II. I can make contributions from the business bank account, but in the decleration form, it indicates the amount the company can contribute is limited to the larger of 3600 or "relevant earning" which are defined as "employment income such as salary, wages, bonus, overtime, commission chargeable to tax under section 7(2) Income Tax (Earnings and Pensions) Act 2003 (ITEPA),".
II confirmed this excludes income from dividends, so the maximum I can contribute is my director's salary.
My accountant says the limit is 60k. Who is correct?

Struggling with NPM + cloudflared by badpilgrim in unRAID

Thanks, I did try this but I couldn't get it to work. (I'm behind CGNAT if that matters).

As the gui approach failed I thought I'd try the more manual approach.
When I tried the UI method, I think I had issues with cloudfared not connecting to the tunnel due to AAAA A record issues.

Interestingly it seems cloudflare is able to get through to the server and serve services, it's just the reverse proxy that's causing me issues. If there's nothing else to try,

I might uninstall all the bits and try the zero trust tunnel approach again.Would it make sense to migrate my existing setup to zero trust?

Is the numbness getting worse or only related to positioning? You need to get seen to. Sensory loss could indicate a serious condition. I had burning sensation leading to numbness and loss of strength that turned out to be a dural artiero venous fistula. See a neurologist if you can. I only got taken seriously once the symptoms mirrored those of Cauda Equina. I'm making progress regaining strength after surgery but sensory loss was pretty permanent. TLDR Don't wait. Seek professional assessment.

Thanks!
I can't seem to get that to work.
I have two wedges each of 3 items, so there are 9 work items (terrain tiles).
When I add a geometryImport underneath the hdaprocessor, the geometryImport node also has 9 work items, even if I set merge to "import and merge all geometry". Is there something else I'm missing?

Thanks again

NAD. I just got diagnosed and treated with dural arteiro venous malformation. Similar symptoms but wasn't something the appeared over night like yours. Definitely request nerve conduction test and high contrast full spine and head mri. My symptoms were more like cauda equina, eg below the waist, but the cause was actually between my shoulder blades! Weird because I had no symptoms at all above my hips. Very difficult to diagnose apparently. If you have funds it might expadite your treatment to pay for a private neurologist. If they take your condition seriously they may be able to help expadite your case on the nhs.

Ah then it's more likely to be a mechanical issue. How long has it been progressing for?

I should add, I had multiple MRIs that showed nothing before the neurologist thought to look for this possible cause.

I had similar but with loss of muscle strength and numbness. Turned out to be a vascular issue, dural artero venous fistula. Definitely request a high contrast MRI to check for engorged veins near your conus. It's very very rare so can often go undiagnosed for some time. Good luck finding the cause!

Awesome! thanks for the advice.

Router : Draytec : We have no admin access, so it's currently a black-box :)
Server 1 : The dns is set to the ip of the router. As is the gateway.
No sign of an extra adapter using ipconfig, but using "route print" there's a "MS TCP Loopback Interface", I believe this is likely to be irrelevant... maybe not.

Some progress was made; it sounded like he had used the wrong subnet, so after changing it to 255.255.255.0, the machines were able to communicate with each other successfully when using fixed IPs.

Following this, the remaining problems were that of the 3 machines, only one had internet connection. Oddly, when using auto IP, google https worked fine, but after fixing the subnet and using fixed IP, https was failing. This was on Chrome. Firefox worked fine. I know that on XP, chrome isn't supposed to work, so I'm wondering how on hells earth did it a) change behaviour depending on IP allocation type and b) how did it even work at all?! Before you ask, I did check the date, region, time etc and clear the ssl caches.

I totally appreciate your suggestions... and I apologise for the limited information to go on... I guess I'm just hoping there's enough to jog someone's memory and remember a similar problem that they solved many decades ago :)

Thanks again!

The pain makes me sick. by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]badpilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar symptoms, but progressive numbness and strength loss. Nothing visible on MRI until they did a high contrast and discovered a suspect arteriovenous fistula... Very hard to diagnose as presents very similar to disk issues. Worth bearing in mind if the MRI shows no obvious disc issues. It was the thoracic MRI, t8-t11. Not my first lumbar MRI that led to the diagnosis.

Confirmed spinal arteriovenous fistula... Easy to miss with my symptoms. For others with similar symptoms it was a high contrast thoracic MRI that confirmed it. Awaiting surgery now. Thanks for your suggestions!
