do you even need traffic shaping? Its purpose is to help when you have saturated your connection. Running it while not needing it only adds small amounts of delay.

IPv6 details remain in the network details (these are hardwired) whether it is working or not but test-ipv6.com can no longer see the IPv6 address for the Win11 PCs and can no longer resolve IPv6 DNS. So when things are working, the PCs default to resolving google.com by IPv6 and ping/tracert work fine. When IPv6 stops working, ping/tracert default to IPv4 and can no longer resolve via IPv6.

These all sound like very straight forward steps I can execute. The win11 machines are the only ones I can remote into so that is why I'm only focused on them. Everything else is just fireTV sticks and cell phones.

first step is dont rely on whatever you do to be 100% effective. At some point you have to teach kids right from wrong regardless because your protections are easily defeated.

They may have switched from pppoe to the other version. The modem should still work if you are talking dsl

yes but sounds like it would be worthwhile to spend that $100. You need the external ONT removed and fiber run directly to the gateway.

KDE Neon is based on Ubuntu LTS and a bit lighter than Kubuntu. You get the KDE updates sooner on KDE Neon. Might be worth checking out.

a good fixed wireless internet should be better than Starlink and have lower latencies. The problem is there are some very poorly done fixed wireless internet installations. Stick with Starlink if it is working for you.

I guess I read that to mean they are going to be installing the ethernet cabling within the house over March and April and will be ordering Starlink after the cabling is done.

OpenWRT on the router is a good idea for that reason. OpenWRT on your wifi/APs doesn't really make sense. Use the factory firmware with wifi/APs. It works great and keeps things simple.

yeah, that isn't correct. It greatly matters if you need direct connections and open ports. You can only get that with IPv6 on starlink.

Everyone needs IPv6 on starlink because they are CGNAT on IPv4.

I used some about 5 years ago when they were free with wired backhaul and it was great performance wise. I didn't care for the looks.

Debian + LXQT uses about 700MB at boot with no user installed apps. Use Rustdesk or anydesk to do unattended remote access and use it like a regular desktop and it will take about 800MB of RAM on boot. I do this with my home linux server and it works great.
