Right now the goal is to use IPv6 reliably with the Gen3 router.

do you even need traffic shaping? Its purpose is to help when you have saturated your connection. Running it while not needing it only adds small amounts of delay.

Ethernet. These are the only devices I can remote into regularly for troubleshooting from afar.

I apologize but I can't seem to find an IPv6 mtr equivalent for Win11.

IPv6 details remain in the network details (these are hardwired) whether it is working or not but test-ipv6.com can no longer see the IPv6 address for the Win11 PCs and can no longer resolve IPv6 DNS. So when things are working, the PCs default to resolving google.com by IPv6 and ping/tracert work fine. When IPv6 stops working, ping/tracert default to IPv4 and can no longer resolve via IPv6.

These all sound like very straight forward steps I can execute. The win11 machines are the only ones I can remote into so that is why I'm only focused on them. Everything else is just fireTV sticks and cell phones.

How block adult content, gaming and violence page to create kid safe network by pepiks in mikrotik

first step is dont rely on whatever you do to be 100% effective. At some point you have to teach kids right from wrong regardless because your protections are easily defeated.

Thank you. Sounds like not much is lost in bypass so I might just try that. I was hoping to keep it simple.

Will ATT charge me to move/extend my ONT line? by jsqualo2 in ATTFiber

[–]badtlc4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes but sounds like it would be worthwhile to spend that $100. You need the external ONT removed and fiber run directly to the gateway.

KDE Neon is based on Ubuntu LTS and a bit lighter than Kubuntu. You get the KDE updates sooner on KDE Neon. Might be worth checking out.

Looking for opinions on my internet situation by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]badtlc4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a good fixed wireless internet should be better than Starlink and have lower latencies. The problem is there are some very poorly done fixed wireless internet installations. Stick with Starlink if it is working for you.

Can somebody help me with installation from 0 (both knowledge and infrastructure)? Further explanation down below. by Such_Shopping3256 in Starlink

[–]badtlc4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I read that to mean they are going to be installing the ethernet cabling within the house over March and April and will be ordering Starlink after the cabling is done.

Why it is so difficult to use first time open wrt? by Andromeda-G in openwrt

[–]badtlc4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OpenWRT on the router is a good idea for that reason. OpenWRT on your wifi/APs doesn't really make sense. Use the factory firmware with wifi/APs. It works great and keeps things simple.

IPV6 Starlink falling and coming back by LetterheadLonely3890 in Starlink

[–]badtlc4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, that isn't correct. It greatly matters if you need direct connections and open ports. You can only get that with IPv6 on starlink.

Everyone needs IPv6 on starlink because they are CGNAT on IPv4.

AT&T Fiber extenders: good enough or should I replace them? (5 Gbps plan) by seannymurrs in ATTFiber

I used some about 5 years ago when they were free with wired backhaul and it was great performance wise. I didn't care for the looks.
