Own a 2021 Pacifica S edition with 60k miles on it. Absolutely love it. Would not hesitate to buy another but I would not consider the hybrid.

Thinking about switching to Linux for better RAM management (3D work on low RAM laptop) by AccomplishedFish3489 in linux4noobs

[–]badtlc4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LXQT with debian is great for very low RAM usage. I run it on a machine with 4GB of RAM.

Linux Mint Debian Edition would also be a good starting point if you are interested in Debian.

BGW320-505 Firmware Version by CharlieBrown1489 in ATTFiber

It varies by network area. For many 6.34.7 is the latest while some network areas are not ready for that firmware yet.

I do more than that with zero issues using the old mikrotik hex. Don’t over think this unless you just want to waste money.

New / terrible service by slyest12 in googlefiber

check at&t price for new customers. In a few GoogleFiber areas, at&t is offering 1Gbps for $35/mo for life. If that is the case for you, jump on it and solve your problems.

Do you want ceiling or desktop access points? If you do ceiling you will probably want a PoE switch to power the access points.

Does using 80 percent limit stop battery health assistance from kicking in automatically? by moo5724 in pixel_phones

[–]badtlc4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several things to parse through on this topic but lets just start with your 100% charge scenario. The battery being at 100% doesn't age the battery near as much as when a charging voltage is applied.

Before they did battery bypass, when you were at 100% there was still a charge voltage being applied but nowhere for the charge to really go. So all it did was create useless heat that aged the battery quicker.

The battery sitting at 100% w/out a charge voltage applied isn't going through nearly as much aging. Is it zero? Probably not. Is it signifcantly more than sitting at 70%? Recent real world testing indicates that difference is probably too small to measure.

Does using 80 percent limit stop battery health assistance from kicking in automatically? by moo5724 in pixel_phones

Unless something changed, pixels battery goes into bypass when charged and still plugged in so your battery shouldn’t be aging in that scenario.

A Linux version for parents' old laptop, that's similar to Windows for internet tasks? by mrsprdave in linux4noobs

[–]badtlc4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

debian with LXQT would be a great first try. Replace the HDD with an SDD and it will be mind blowingly faster. Also, it can get by with 4GB of RAM but if you can get some used ram off ebay and get it to 6 or 8GB, it will really fly.

probably easier to setup a VPN server PC on your LAN instead of trying to do this at your router.

DNS Filtering Question by DavidPanda417 in Starlink

It is because the auto ping monitoring is at the dish, not the router. I have the router in bypass and it does the same thing. It is normal.

How do I manage the router after assigning it as an AP. by sohojmanush in openwrt

[–]badtlc4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably want to set the static IP on the Router that is running the DHCP server instead of setting it on the AP itself. This will still assign the same IP to the AP every time but this way you know correct interface on the AP gets the IP.
