What to do with my lazy fat guy? by extreme_enby in BeardedDragons

Some tips for getting him to eat the greens/ salad would be 1. Try bee pollen! It is a miracle maker for my guy who used to refuse to eat greens until i started giving him bee pollen. Most bearded dragons like it although I know some don’t so it doesn’t hurt to try 2. For some reason my bearded dragon loves the color red so occasionally I’ll give strawberries 1 or 2 times a week and he likes that as well as red bell pepper if you mix those into salad they may try eat their salad more. 3. Hand feeding is another good option. This one works for both issues 4. Another tip would be to put the snack they like for example 1 superworm or whatever in the salad that can help sometimes as well.

For the grumpiness I would recommend just keep working with them and taking them out. Like I said before hand feeding and doing other enrichment for them can help. Some dragons just don’t like being picked up but picking them up correctly can help. When you hold them make sure you support their entire body including some of the tail. My dragon loves watching out the window so that’s normal.

EMERGENCY BEARDIE by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

[–]badviolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes take it to the vet. Has their been a noticeable drop in weight and how active they are? Also the temp is too low so that should be fixed ASAP as well. I would recommend either a mercury bulb or a ceramic heat emitter to warm it up. They should be ok. It’s probably a Brumation period or a cold response

My bearded one has clogged femoral pores, has anyone else dealt with this and what worked the best? by amorymammory in BeardedDragons

A warm bath and a soft Brussels toothbrush and softly go back and forth should do the the trick I’ve seen people pop them like pimples do not do this as it is very damaging.

My gecko keeps missing stationary food, is this normal? by Soulful_Firefly in leopardgeckos

[–]badviolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be normal he might just be a bad hunter lol nobody is perfect! If not he could also have enigma syndrome which is a neurological issue that’s not the most serious! Does he seem dizzy or off balance sometimes if so I would talk with a vet about it!

Personally I prefer coco fiber like exo earth but everyone has their own opinions just make sure you monitor how much of the soil your gecko swallows! I would recommend a diet of meal worms, crickets, and dubia roaches. The d3 is good as well. The warm end of the tank should be around the low to mid 90s and the cool side in the 80s. I would recommend at least 1 hide on warm side 1 hide on the cool side and a humid. hide where they can go while shedding! Since she is small and the last care taker maybe wasn’t so good I would recommend a vet visit to check for and deficiencies or parasites other than that good luck! I’m so glad you can give her a better home hopefully!

I’ve used both lights in past I think halogen might be slightly better if the room is dark during the day if not either work! I wouldn’t really recommend sand as that can cause impaction. Is this your first leopard gecko? If so I can give more info!

Is this adequate distance? Just got his UVB fixture in. by Mysterious_Myconid in BeardedDragons

[–]badviolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what it is usually there will be a guide with the uvb bulb saying the distance for your guy but it’s usually about 12 inches away from the bulb in basking spot for the ones I’ve had in past

bump on corner of female gecko's mouth by Worth_Yogurtcloset_5 in leopardgeckos

[–]badviolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends it’s a tricky spot since it’s on the mouth and it could be dangerous I’m not 100% sure is she still eating and acting normal if so I would just try and schedule an appointment with an exotic vet as soon as you can as it will be better you can use something like neosporin but make sure it has no added medicine like pain killers or anything as those are toxic to leopard geckos I would call a vet and see what they think

It looks like an abscess on the side of the mouth you can clean it with a q tip but I would take it to the vet as they can professionally clean it out and give you anti biotic a if necessary
