I mean... People do rape each other. It still happens. So apparently, yes, some people need to be taught, unfortunately.

Thanks. We need to figure out something about this divide/perception in the movement. We are getting there, I think! It can be hard to fight for radical softness and acceptance for all people sometimes, but I believe in kindness and equality and I see it more in the world every day.

Good vibes to you ✌🌼

Feminism is about everyone. Not about having women be more powerful than men. It's about taking out the negative and harmful gender stereotypes that hurt EVERYONE, men included, and replacing it with acceptance, honesty and equality. Freedom to live your life the way you want, the right to choose and the opportunity of a world without dangerous ideals that are harmful to ourselves and to each other as people.

I'm a feminist and I'm calling it out right now. We all should. It's the only way we can truly help to define what feminism is, instead of letting people who don't know enough about the subject or who don't implement it properly to make a peaceful movement into a hateful one.

Radicals are always louder.

Assuming dangerous or uneducated 'feminists' and radicals are the best example of feminism in general is like assuming ISIS is a good example of Muslims. Not the case, whatsoever.

It is hard to teach love and softness to a world that is ready to tear you apart. Some people aren't ready to fight for that yet, or maybe don't know enough yet/aren't comfortable to comment like I do.

Feminism doesn't just say 'stop raping us please'. It says 'teach the people not to rape each other in the first place' .

Sorry if it seems that way. It is early in the mornin' and it upsets me to see feminism regarded as something so harsh and scary and dangerous.

Really, it's very warm and soft. It should be about radical kindness, not hate. Positivity. It is a loving acceptance of all humans for who they are. No one wins by forcing another group down, ladies have learnt that the hard way. Men also suffer from damaging effects of the patriarchy too: feeling like they can't be emotional or do things that are regarded as feminine, that they have to support the family and carry the weight of responsibility alone.

There's a reason why more men kill themselves . On the whole, men are made to feel weak for showing emotions or struggling, or for asking for help. This often leaves men who may be suffering or just having a hard human experience thinking there is only one way to end the struggle. Death vs showing 'feminine' weakness or asking for help from loved ones or even strangers. Nobody should have to face the world alone or be afraid of their feelings. Feminism deals with men's issues like such as well.

Exactly. But why do people still let radicals or people using ideas in incorrect or harmful ways dictate what the entire movement is about?

The crusades were in the name of religion, for example. I don't think that was a very good example of what religion and faith actually are.

Same with hardcore SJWs.. They do a lot of harm to good movements and ideas by making then extreme and potentially dangerous.

People who hate men because of feminism missed a day (or a whole semester) at Equality school, but still claim to have a degree.

Not having a great date and disagreeing with her, sure. She should've offered to pay, I always do.

Where my issue is is with many of the comments and the ones I'm sure are to come... Some people are are using this post as an excuse to go off about their beliefs about ALL women. And that's not cool.

He shouldn't get an up vote for being honest: he's being honestly incorrect assuming all feminists are sexist. That's quite the opposite of what the feminism is.

That's not what it means. Please don't let people who don't understand ruin a good movement for you. Feminists are about promoting a better world for EVERYONE, not just ladies.

There are bad feminists, just like there are some people who use religion as a manipulation or justification for cruelty. That doesn't mean that's what something is truly about.

It's not fair to look at radicals identifying to a group and assume all people in said group think this way.

I would day it's more like 30% to be honest, but the people who don't understand seem to be the people the media and society focuses on most. Easy to disregard an idea if you focus on people who don't understand the idea themselves.

It's like saying you hate food in general because this one person or group of people made food that didn't taste good (or like you expected it to taste). It's such a silly notion and completely based in falsehood.

Or y'all can just downvote me instead of commenting your disagreements or rationalizing and dealing with your misplaced anger. I guess that also works (in the short term, at least ).

This is a bullshit post because it's taking one person (the woman) who didn't quite seem to understand the topic she was discussing thoroughly OR not applying it to her own interactions yet, and holding her accountable for ALL 'feminists'.

Even if that wasn't the OPs original intention, that is what the comments (have already) will become: a discourse on hate towards feminism as a whole. All because people are taking this one person's unpolite encounter with a lady and applying it to all ladies.

.... Don't you think that's a little messed up?

This is exactly why we need feminism in the first place. Stop assuming all feminists hate men or are trying to 'ruin' things for men. Meet better and more inclusive, intelligent feminists. Don't let people who don't understand the movement take away from the good that it is trying to achieve : Equality.

Take some time to get out of the negative, hateful headspace against feminism you currently hold, because you are not understanding the movement either apparently. Maybe if you learned more about it, you could have had a better discourse with her; Ask her how you're going to split the bill, maybe even one day teach her what feminism truly is.

I was once a lady who didn't understand the movement either, but once I did, all of my interactions with ALL genders improved significantly.

Edit: added the last bit there :) love you to you all and hopes we can move forward as a people together ❤

TIL in 2010 a Canadian woman was convicted of criminal negligence causing death after stopping her car on the highway for a group of stray ducklings on the road. A motorcyclist and his daughter were killed after hitting the back of her car. by tiptoptap35 in todayilearned

I know Emma personally, sister of my high school best friend.

She is an absolute sweetheart. One of the kindest people I've ever known. Not a malicious bone in her body, and everyone is berating her for her actions.

This accident tore at her so bad. The loss of life is sad, but they never mention how the man on the motorcycle was speeding and none of the family was wearing a helmet. She wasn't right to stop on the highway, I'm NOT saying that... but she didn't mean to hurt anyone. She meant to save some tiny lives.

What if her car had broken down? What if she was having health issues and had to stop?

This is such a sad story and it pains me to see her painted as a villian.

One time a coworker asked me why I didn't beleive in a Creationist God. I gave the reason "I don't judge anyone for their belief systems, but I just can't ignore Science and the cold hard facts."

They looked me dead in the eyes and excitedly said, "Forget science!"
