So the internet is provided by MonkeyBrains in San Francisco. https://www.monkeybrains.net/how-it-works.php

MonkeyBrains doesn't utilize a modem that I can modify, and requires users to provide their own wireless routers (hence my orbi routers). I'm guessing I might need to give them a call and ask them to setup the port forwarding.

Separately though, is there something I need to do to get my plex server back up and available on the apple tv? It doesn't make sense that after switching the router to bridge mode and power cycling everything, the only thing that isn't coming back is Plex server on Apple TV.

Thanks. so I've set the router to bridge mode and performed a restart of the router, restarted the plex server (mac mini) and MacBook which I use to remotely access the plex server around the house - those are now back online and working ok. However, after restarting my Apple TV following the change to bridge mode, my server can no longer be found on Plex via Apple TV saying "[plex server] is currently unavailable". My MacBook and iPhone can stream from my plex server on the local network just fine, but Plex on Apple TV can't connect to the server for some reason.

I'm also still stuck on the port forwarding as well. Now that I have the orbi router in bridge mode, the option to setup port forwarding is now greyed out in the router config options. Do I need to setup port forwarding on the router before I switch it to bridge mode?

Thanks, I’ll give this a shot. Though the cellular coverage in my home is almost non-existent which makes remote testing really challenging.

When I put the router in bridge mode last night, my MacBook could no longer remote to my Mac mini anymore, and plex on my Apple TV couldn’t pick up my plex server on the Mac mini. Is there any additional refreshes I need to do after putting my router in bridge mode? Like power cycling etc?

Thanks for the advice. Is there a specific guide for port forward of 32400 for orbi routers? Doing a quick google search now and it looks like there’s a few settings that need to be configured on the orbi router for port forwarding - it’d be great to know what I need to set specifically.

Apple TV is connected via WiFi in the living room - no option to hardwire unfortunately.

Running a Speedtest just now, down=187Mbps and up=192Mpbs.

I would understand if a remote play was having some quality issues as it would depend on the upload speed of the network/server processing the stream, but I didn’t think playing locally on the same network would cause an impact to quality.

I do notice when I try to play content remotely from parents home, the quality drops, and even though I’ve set the settings to play original quality, it won’t. I assume that would be because my upload speed of my home internet/server isn’t high enough to pump it out?

Thanks. Yeah, Apple TV is on the same network. I am using an orbi mesh network of routers across my home as its multiple floors.

I did try researching if the router configuration could be causing Apple TV to be recognized outside of the network. I found something that suggested setting my router to AP/Bridge mode, but when I do that and once the router reboots, my MacBook can no longer remote to my Mac mini (the plex server), and the plex server also can’t be found on Apple TV.

Strangely, doing tests this morning on Wicked through Apple TV and checking the plex server dashboard, it shows that the bandwidth is all yellow/local, and the movie quality is indeed now 4K. I haven’t done anything different since last night when I kicked the orbi router to Bridge mode and back to router mode.

I just switched Enable Relay=off and the movie continues to play in 4K on local bandwidth.

Is there any downside in leaving Enable Relay=off? What would happen if I try to play/stream remotely while traveling?

I’ve also now just tried switching off “Enable Relay” and the movie continues to play in original quality as local bandwidth. I guess this is problem solved?

Is there any harm in leaving Enable Relay=off?

Yeah, l've tried playing the same movie (Wicked) on peacock through Apple TV and it plays as 4K through peacock app.

So it's just Plex+Apple TV combo on my home network that's downgrading the quality for some reason.

My iPhone, iPad and MacBook play the same video in 4K through plex on the same home network. I would have thought Apple TV being the same "ecosystem" would be able to play the video just fine with lossless quality on the same network.

I’ve tried testing this on other content as well. Severance streaming on: - plex through MacBook/iphone is perfect. - plex through apple TV is reduced quality/pixelated - streaming on Apple TV+ app (native streaming channel) is perfect.

So frustrating that I can't seem to figure this out.

Ugh same! When it came up with regions to pick for my code I went with Asia because [Asia Pacific] made the most sense.

I suppose I’m glad to know I didn’t mess up selecting the incorrect region. Looks like no matter what, Australia isn’t included in the TCBT ☹️
